  • Sturdy nest boxes our hens love
Size: 10-Hole
We were looking for a way to not have to build and install nest boxes. We considered pre-made wooden nest boxes, plastic units, and multiple configurations of galvanized metal units including this one for 28 large fowl layers. As soon as we installed this in our coop, hanging mid to low on the rear wall of our coop, our hens were in. 10 slots has seemed more than enough (though we dropped from 28 to 17 after our fall cull). We have large breeds that don't seem to have any issue getting in and out and they seem content with the amount of privacy. It's difficult for a second hen to fit in a box with a nesting hen and force her out, so we mostly don't get much of this problem. Collecting eggs is easy from the front but also appears possible from the rear with hatch doors. We're thinking of trying this in the spring. The unit was easy to assemble, with decent written instructions. Take care to avoid a few metal edges that are a little sharp. It's was fairly easy to move once assembled and hang level with two people, though it is not light. I was worried only two mounting bolts wouldn't hold the unit but it has not budged since we placed it. We attached it to a cross-brace along the studs of the coop wall. The fold-up feature of the perches is perfect if you are training your new layers not to sleep in nest boxes. We did a little spot sanding on the perches which had a few splinters that might injure the chickens' feet. One of the bars was a little warped but hasn't caused issue and could easily be replaced with fresh lumber if you drill the holes for the bolts. Over time we have noticed that if the hens are really determined, they can pull the perches down to get into the boxes, but this only tends to happen on days we are late to get out to them. The bolt/nuts on the perch bars also loosen over time but we haven't lost any nuts yet and they are easily re-tightened in place. Because the frame is so strong and well-built, we attached a bar along the underside that we hang 2 12-pound feeders from. Works great and protects the feeders from perching and pooping! I really like the look and durability of the galvanized metal in our coop and am so happy I can support American-made. The price on Amazon couldn't be beat and there were no issues with shipping packaging or delivery. Definitely recommend to chicken keepers with smaller production flocks, especially if you want to save the step of building boxes. ... show more

  • Increased egg laying
Size: 10-Hole
The media could not be loaded. Very sturdy make sure you secure it to the wall or the chickens can tip it over. Easy to clean. My chickens were laying eggs everywhere then I got this and now they all lay in it. Perfect size for a backyard flock I have about 100 chickens and will definitely buy a second one. ... show more

  • Great nesting boxes! Glad they fixed most of the issues!!
Size: 37.0"L x 33.0"W x 24.5"H
May 15 2021: I read many reviews prior to purchase, but with lumber costs what they are now, cost of the metal was worth it. Upon unboxing, it appears the manufacturer has corrected many (not all) of the issues stated in the complaints I read. The instructions were pretty clear to me and diagrams were helpful. I was able to put the metal together without help using only a Philips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench (would recommend gloves and eye protection). A second person would be helpful to have them hold/position things while you start screws if you don't feel particularly "handy". All of my holes were spot-on or slightly off. When they were off, it was typically because I over tightened fasteners too soon or because of some slight bending in the metal from shipping (materials were packaged well, these were minor bends I was able to easily fix). By loosening fasteners or bending back into place, holes easily lined back up. This is sheet metal, and it's very sharp on some edges. By design, the edges which will be exposed AFTER construction are folded and not sharp, but all other edges are very sharp. The instructions were clear there are different dimensions in some of the boxes so attention must be paired to which bottom goes in which box. I had difficulty getting the bottoms in... But again, I loosened fasteners and they dropped right in. I tightened fasteners past hand-tight (with tools) after dropping in bottoms and felt they were very sturdy. Unfortunately, the wood included had not be upgraded. It's absolutely unacceptable for use out of the box. The holes did line up fine (they only go one way/have to pay attention to orientation), but the wood is unfinished and will cause injury to the girls. It's rough wood that can easily be sanded and painted. We already had finished 1x2 trim leftover so we just drilled our holes to match and replaced the wood it came with. If not for the wood, I'd give 5 stars. ... show more

  • Good investment!
Size: 37.0"L x 33.0"W x 24.5"H
I put this together on my own fairly easily and even mounted it in my chicken coop on my own. The only difficulty I had was with mounting the wood perches- one of the holes was a little lopsided- but I managed it still with overall ease. I applied an eco-friendly protectant to the wood perches so that they will hopefully last a long while and allow cleanup. My newly laying hens needed help figuring out they should use it for laying eggs, but once I placed them in with some nest pads a handful of times they were good to go. I like that the perches fold up so I can clean around it easily. Just be careful when moving the unit- the metal is sharp! ... show more

  • Pretty good we had to make improvements
Size: 37.0"L x 33.0"W x 24.5"H
A little tough fitting the parts together. The sheet metal bases of the nesting boxes were sharp and didn’t fit together correctly but my hubby is handy so he fixed it. Also the perches outside are made cheaply so they were a little warped and unfinished. We cut new wood for them and painted it. Theirs came unfinished and would be a mess in no time. We also had to remake part of the inside of our coop to hang it because there were only two places at the top to hang it from. U will need 2 also to hang it. It’s large and awkward and a little bit heavy while trying to hang onto a screw gun. All in all the chix are happy so we are. ... show more
