  • Fast printing, simple & easy to use, reliable, long lasting, Excellent.
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: New
I LOVE this printer. I've owned 3-4 printers since the year 2000 and THIS one by far is the best. It was my first time trying Brother printers and I can now see why they're so ubiquitous. I print, and it's DONE super quick! Ink seems to last a while. The paper has NEVER jammed once in 6 months. My Epson used to jam EVERY print. And the only cord is the power cord since it connects to my pc wirelessly! I love how functional it is with its scanner and it's ability to scan from the top, which I haven't even used, but it can fax, as well as scan documents from those inserted from the top. Thank God also that the scanning software is simple and intuitive, and doesn't give you a bunch of bloatware you don't need. OH also, I LOVE that it comes with PaperPort which I hadn't used in years but forgot how much I loved it, I use it to sort all my PDF's, stack 'em, rotate them, crop them, all of it. As a long time HP person to gave Epson a try and hated it, I'm now a Brother convert and will remain one as long as this high quality continues. SO reliable. ... show more

  • Best printer I’ve ever had
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: New
This printer is amazing and a bargain for its quality and functionality. The wi-fi connection works seemlessly from all my Apple devices and I’m able to print from anywhere in my apartment without having to stress about the connection. I’ve printed high-quality pictures and illustrations in full color and they looked amazing. The ink cartridges are cheap and easy to get on Amazon. The printer tells you when the ink needs to be replaced and shows instructions on how to do it on its small display and on the Brother app. It accomodates different paper sizes and types easily and I’ve printed many of my illustrations on glossy paper with zero smudge or sizing issues. The scanner is an awesome bonus and also scans in full color. This was really the first printer I’ve ever had that gets my printing and scanning tasks done right on the first try. It’s like this thing reads your mind and knows exactly what you want the printed product to look like, even in complex projects. Zero stress, amazing product, amazing price. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Be prepared to wait on ink
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: New
Updated: Since writing this review, I have written to support at brother three times about the slow ink deliveries. They are spectacularly unhelpful, and send boilerplate messages barely addressing my concern. I thought OK I’ll upgrade to the higher level, Maybe they’ll send out ink faster if they see I’m paying 25 a month for the elite tier of pages… Nope! You will still have to wait. I average 2 to 3 days with no ink in the printer, waiting on ink to arrive, and generally speaking I always have a print job halfway done that has failed because of ink running out. I’m downgrading this review to one star because of the EZ subscription service, which is anything but easy or effective. ________ I bought the device intending to print anywhere from 100-500 pages in color a month. The quality of the output on the device is fine. There's no arguing the ink subscription service is a financial savings versus buying your own expensive cartridges. But in my experience already three times this month, I have run out of ink midway through a color print job, to be reassured by the app, "ink's already been ordered" cheerfully, but then have to wait 3-4 days additional for the ink that supposedly "will arrive before you need it" to arrive. Simply put that's not acceptable for a printer intended for regular usage, especially for color printing. I opted for a higher level subscription because I expect to print that many pages a month...but my $10 a month for ink isn't such a great deal when you're left with a print job half finished and have to wait days to continue it. Be aware if you are going to opt for a higher level of subscription because you intend to actually the device regularly, the ink service is going to lag and be very, very annoying. Also be aware that unless you print in Draft quality at all times, this is going to continue to be the case, because they don't ship faster ink to you just because you opt to print in OK or Best quality. If your printer loses power, be assured that you will likely lose authentication with the subscription service, and re-enabling it is a chore. I haven't faxed with it (who does?) but scanning and photocopying while working OK, also fail to work if one of your color inks is empty. Supposedly you can continue to copy and scan in B&W while you wait for the "E-Z" refill to finally show up....but in reality, error messages on the device display scream at you to replace the ink, and won't go away for you to access the copy/scan panel. SO the only way you can use it such circumstances is to initiate a scan via the PC or iOS app, you can't do it from the device itself while it is in crybaby mode. Finally, there's an issue with the buffer built into this device. The device claims to have a memory built in, but it's paltry. If you print a large print job and your PC print app assures you it sent the whole thing to the printer...it doesn't. The print only accepts some of it. If you dare to print a large job overnight, rest assure come morning it will have stopped after about ten pages in halfway through a page, losing the rest of the print job. You really do have to sit there and make sure your PC doesn't go to sleep until the entire print job is completely executed, or this happens repeatedly. The printer is fairly slow on color jobs, which means if you want to, say, print a 100-200 page doc, you really do need to do it at a time you're going to be able to sit there for hours making sure the PC doesn't go to sleep. Cannot recommend. ... show more

  • Budget friendly and reliable
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: Renewed (Refurbished)
This may not have all of the bells and whistles and may be an older model but it is reliable workhorse. The wireless printing works well. Set up was easy and it walks you through the process. Wireless printing took a bit longer to get working but once it finally connected, it stays connected even if unplugged for an extended time. Scanning and copying works well and if you are familiar with Brother printers, you already know they are very user-friendly. It takes a while for a page to print but nothing too out of the ordinary and the prints look good. I don't know that I would use it to print high quality documents or photos but it's fine for everyday tasks. It doesn't hog ink like most other printer brands. I would recommend a cover if you don't use the printer regularly - dust can really mess up a printer and lead to a premature death. I've owned many Brother printers and keep buying them because they are reliable and will last years if not abused. If you want a budget-friendly reliable printer, this will certainly fit the bill. ... show more

  • All in one - easy, affordable, done... All in one - easy, affordable, done...
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: New
I spent some time researching printers that were budget friendly, but still had everything I needed and found this little guy at the top of the list. I compared this model to 6 other printers, at this price point, and found this one to have the best ratings in all areas (with the most features at this price point). This brand also had the least amount of problems and maintenance issues. This All-in-one is everything I was looking for and more. I specifically wanted the auto document loader, but not the maintenance issues that come with other brands that have this option and this little guy fit the bill. It is wireless, has duplex printing, great print quality (color/resolution), high resolution scans, and copies and prints pretty fast compared to my previous printer. The setup was quick, easy and simple. I added the printer on two different PC's and phones in minutes. It arrived well packed and on time without any issues. For anyone looking for a printer, copy, scanner that does not break the bank...this one in my opinion, is the best at this budget friendly price. BTW ink refills for this machine are also affordable for an inkjet printer (and compared to other inkjet printers) and even more affordable if you want to sign up for Brother's "refresh." I am very happy with my purchase and definitely recommend the Brother brand and this MFC-J1010DW model. ... show more

  • Just plug in Play on Linux Mint 21.2 - Really easy to setup Just plug in Play on Linux Mint 21.2 - Really easy to setup
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: New
I have Linux Mint 21.2 on ASUS laptop. I have used HP Printer for over 20 years, and after buying the last HP Laptop and Printer, I have decided to never buy from them again. The printers are just getting too cheap. The design on the last Hp Printer was total junk. Paper jams, parts breaking. While I did try out the instant ink for the last two years, that does save you a bunch of money. But when you need ink, don't think you will just go buy one at Walmart. Because it might work a few times, and then it will not work. If you are still subscribed. Brother Refresh I hope will be better at the delivery. If not I will just buy them myself. But as for the setup.... Wow it was easy in Linux. I just plugged in USB and it found it immediately. Printed on first try. Way better settings. With generic drivers, it worked. From the printer keypad, I found my router. Just added the security key and it connected. Updated Firmware in about 5 minutes. I printed from my Android phone without any big setup. Just choose print, and then find your new printer in list. The last few times I have installed printers in Windows or Linux Mint, it has been a real pain. This Brother printer seems well made compared to any printers I have bought in years. I have bought expensive photo printers from HP that used to be well made and lasted me over ten years. When I saw the ugly white printers that will look dirty in a couple days, I decided I will not buy another printer from HP. So far the Brother Printer looks great, prints fast, and without hassle. ... show more

  • Easy set-up; compact; 2-sided printing; ink subscription worth trying for some
Style: Previous Model: MFCJ1010DW Pattern Name: New
I followed the written instructions, and set-up went very smoothly. I added apps to our phones, and now we can print documents (and photos) quickly from them. Even with the copy receiver extended, it's a LOT more compact than our old HP. The paper tray is enclosed too, so won't get so dusty. The 2-sided printing is a bit different, but it worked after a false start. I printed 100 pages our first day (mostly on draft), and still have over half the black starter cartridge left. It only pulled a couple extra sheets of paper on a long job (I fanned paper a lot). It prints fast on b&w draft; and, as expected, really slow on printing photos (which are edge-to-edge). It's also MUCH quieter than our HP was. I can't attest to the machine's longevity yet. I'm trying the Brother ink Refresh subscription at least through the 2-month free trial (it's actually a print-per-page service). So far it's been seamless, and they already have ink cartridges coming (4 business days including ship and deliver dates). Monitoring page usage is easy but does require an account log-in. Unused pages roll-over to a max of 2-times your plan amount (so 80 pages for the $2.50/month rate). An IMPORTANT thing to understand is that these cartridges stop working when you drop the subscription, so you'll need to order "normal" cartridges first. But at $30/year it feels worth it since 4 regular sized cartridges are $40. And I've learned the hard way, ink dries out, so it's not just how many pages you print. I'm not keen on subscription services, but Brother has made one for low-use folks like us. However, it may not work for boom-and-bust print-job styles. ... show more
