  • Not NEARLY a great smoker
Style: Regal Charcoal Offset 400
Overall, it's meh, at best. I think maybe some of the rave reviews could be from folks that have not had a good offset before. Seriously concerning is is the corners cut using those lamely thin endcap/cheeks on this smoker; They are so thin, the fire-box literally sags without anything in it, as it's pulling on the cheek of the cook chamber. I've spent half as much in pits that were twice as thick, and never have I had one with a sagging burn-chamber. Unacceptable for the price. I would have much rather given-up the pretty handles and Kenworth-sized chrome badging in trade for thicker metal (at least on the cheeks and stress-points) and a gasket on that burn-chamber that spewed smoke so badly it ran us off the deck. I'm a fabricator by trade, so I will modify what needs modified to bring this thing up to where it should be (add a box-wide stick of 3/4" angle in both the cook chamber, as well as the burn-chamber, drilled exactly for the two top mating bolt-holes, with stand-offs in the cook chamber to pull that burn-chamber back level and give it the support it needs, as it's too much trouble to send this overpriced turd back. Of course there is no short supply of the fiberglass gaskets on the intent to fashion one for the fire-box, SO THE HEAT AND SMOKE HEAD FOR THE COOK CHAMBER!!! NOT WORTH THE MONEY! And not that this fact matters much to myself, as I know both good AND bad products come out of China, but this is certainly NOT made in North America...China it is. As we've set out to use this on our deck, I've noticed two more issues...one of the adjustable leg pads is crooked. Also, whomever is fabricating these things must be first year welders/fabricators...the spot welds are insufficient, and fitup looks like a child did it; the shelf on the front of the cook chamber was fabricated out of square, and the posts that slip into the sleeves on the front of the grill are not symmetrical, in angle, nor in length, which has the work-surface lopsided. If this was a 300.00 grill, I'd mention none of it, but it's not. I will build my next one, to be sure. ... show more

  • Less than Mediocre and Terribly Overpriced
Style: Regal Charcoal Offset 400
This is a really small offset smoker. Main cook space is limited. The upper rack is tiny and is better suited for warming. I wanted something larger but was swayed by the discounted $556 price and free assembly. (It's currently $758!!) Even at the lower cost, it's vastly overpriced for what you get. 13 gauge steel. Short top-mounted stack. Grease doesn't drain into the drain pan and ends up underneath in a messy pool in the bottom of the cook chamber. Because of the small size, building a coal bed and maintaining temperatures is quite difficult since to maintain a temp of 225, you can't have too large a fire and must use small wood splits to keep the temp from spiking wildly. This requires feeding the fire every 15-20 minutes. One of the intake damper hinges on the cook chamber side broke. The handle extends over a large portion of the front shelf, limiting its use. This is probably because to save money, Broil King uses the same handle on both this and the XL even though this model is smaller. Goodies like a bottle opener, chrome badge, tools, and ceramic-coated cast iron cooking grates don't make up for obvious design flaws. ... show more

  • It's not terrible
Style: Offset XL
Doing my second weekend of smoking ribs on this grill. It's not terrible. The packaging was sub-par and it has rub marks along the entire back side of the grill, I rubbed in some oil when I did the burn in and it helped. The thermometer is sadly just a joke, it has never moved from bottomed out and fogs up. Of course you will need to add some gasket material to seal it up tighter. These are minor things, but if it was perfect I'd review it as such. In general it does a good job, and with some practice I'm sure I can get some incredible meals out of it. ... show more

  • WOULD HAVE GIVEN 5 STARS BUT
Style: Offset XL
Got this smoker for my husband for Father’s Day which was that Sunday after receiving it on Friday so we of course used it the door broke and in the video it said it came with a damper door for the inside and didn’t. Just a little disappointing that it broke on the first use and that they advertised the inside damper door and we didn’t get one. ... show more

  • Heavy duty Smoker, just what I wanted!
Style: Offset XL
We had a little trouble with the 3rd party shipper "losing my smoker on their shipping dock" which delayed delivery for a few days, but after some phone calls we got it straightened out, and once they "found it", they even agreed to my request fro Saturday delivery to try to make up for their error. The Broil King Offset Smoker is EVERYTHING it should be, and MORE! Great product. I assembled it myself rather than pay >$100 for the privilege, and had no trouble or missing parts whatsoever. I am a happy BBQ man now! ... show more
