I am furnishing a new house and I needed a clock for the media room that would be placed on the blackout wall behind the TV. I wanted to hold with the blackout theme which lands you in a place of limited choices - especially if the aesthetic is important to you. I did not want an illuminated clock because the whole goal of the blackout wall is to not interfere with the theater experience it affords. I was hopeful that the white painted hands against the black background would make the clock readable with just the glow from the TV. I am almost always able to read the time with the room darkened and the TV on. The TV is an LG C2 and dark means DARK - no backlight. Soooo, if the TV blacks out totally, the clock is not readable. Of course not, the room is totally dark and the clock is not illuminated. However with most programming the clock is readable 95+% of the time. The sweep second hand means no "tick-tock-tick-tock" during the quiet scenes while you're perched on the edge of the seat waiting on the stalker to step on a twig or something. No radio-controlled clocks on Amazon are good looking to me so far, while this aesthetic clock comes with a quarz movement. As far as I searched this clock only have the radio-controlled version for Europe which receievs DCF signal. The clock itself though is well-made and polished. So I bought another radio-controlled movement and managed to put it on. Now it works great. The process however is not enjoyable at all. The extra $21 radio-controlled movement that I bought separately from Amazon has longer shaft (17mm) than the original one (seemingly shorter than 9mm) so I have to use two Costco purified water bottle's caps and double-sided tapes to re-fix the movement. Ugly as heck but hided. The whole process took me considerable time that is completely unnecessary if proper-sized movement is available or if Braun offers the radio-controlled version for WWVB in the first place. PS: if you want to replace it too, the front bezel is fixed by six clips as shown in the image ... show more

This is an appropriately sized wall clock for an average sized living room - neither too large, nor too small. The black matte finish looks good on the rim and the dial. The clock is slimmer at the rim and thicker at the base (part that houses the clock mechanism). Construction seems sturdy and durable. As the description states, the dial is easy to read. Although, the numbers could have been ever so slightly bigger. At their current size, the numbers seem to be competing with the minute lines to look prominent. That requires some getting used to. The minute and the hour hands are prominent enough and one can easily tell the time at a glance. The second hand however, should have been more prominent. One has to intentionally search for it on the dial to tell the passing second. The movement of the second hand is buttery smooth, silent and creates a floating effect as mentioned in the description. A bit expensive at this price point, but a good purchase nonetheless. ... show more

This clock has a very Attractive face. All these types of clocks that use this quartz movement tend to show 30 sec slow or fast depending on whether the minute hand is going up to 12 or down from 12.
