It is a good product for what it is. For splitting Kindling. Small pieces of wood for starting fires. Not for splitting anything larger like logs or bigger pieces of wood. I have a small firepit on my deck and wanted something close by that made it easier to split the smaller logs that I burn in it, so I went with the smaller model. Before I had a Hatchet that I'd have to use in the yard, but not anymore. This thing is great. Just put my log in the center, a few good swings with the hammer, and that log is split. I'm gonna look for a larger stump that I can secure it to, that way I don't have to hold it while I swing, and lucky enough this thing already comes with holes for securing it. Great product. 10/10. I’m enjoying the splitter and it functions just fine. BUT….the company keeps sending me emails that are impossible to respond to, asking me if I’ve yet received the fireplace poker. I purchased the XL Splitter and have found it very useful. It comes with a maul that has a rubber like grip that does tend to want to slip off, but nothing a little duct tape took to fix. Splitter works as advertised and makes great kindling out of dry sort woods. I had some oak logs that I tried splitting and they would tend to get stuck on the blade either due to being too wet or I just wasn't hitting it hard enough. All in all a great product and super strong. Definitely recommend bolting to a surface or a log if possible, but works fine on the ground if cutting smaller logs. 100% recommend this splitter. ... show more

I tried a different log splitter (with 2 cross ways blades) and was unable to split the logs. One blade works fine. Suggest you consider getting a tree stump or other base to mount on as otherwise it will jump around. Could use a 4 lb sledge for thick wook.
