So it has been 11 months since I purchased and installed this pool pump and I intentionally waited this long in order to give a review because I've found that many products seem to work well initially but after a couple of months falter, so I wanted to give some time to see this product fail. So, this is my third pool pump adventure and on my last "go around, I tried just replacing the motor" which was a pain in the ass; so this may actually be considered my fourth pool pump ordeal. Prior to this B&D purchase, I must say I was a main-streamer and I purchased Hayward or Pentair products. So, this purchase was really based upon reading some reviews and the warranty period. Every other pool pump seemed to come with either a one or two year warranty and my purchases always seem to fail a year after the warranty ends. This product comes with a 5 year warranty and that peaked my interest. So I took a bite and purchased the 2 hp version for my 24k gallon pool. Installation was a little more tricky because the B&D has a slightly lower profile than the bigger Hayward 2.0 that I was replacing. So repiping was a bitch because the original pool installers didn't give me any excess 2" pipe to work with, so I had to get out the saw and glue and repipe and move things around a bit more than I wanted. So, now it's installed and the thing does move some water and it's multi-speed and programmable and it's well worth the time to watch a YouTube video on how to program it, because you don't need your pool pump running 24/7, especially at 3,000 rpm. So, I set mine to run high rpm's at start up at 6am for a couple of hours, then slower at the second setting, then slower again at the third and slower then at the fourth setting and then it shuts down for the night and we start the process all over in the morning. You can also set it manually if you anticipate a heavy swimmer load in the pool that day. The best part about this pump is how quiet it is. At high rpm's it's probably 50% quieter than my old Hayward 2.0. At the lower rpm's you can't really hear it running and my old Hayward was one speed wonder, so it was either on or off. Lastly, I was a guy that went for the higher brands when it came to power and garden tools and I always regarded B&D products to be for the bargain end tools, but now I've changed my mind because so far when they agreed to put their money and name on this product, it has worked. I moved from a Hayward SuperPump to this Black and Decker. I was hesitant at first due to the price, but this thing has been rock solid. The variable speed is insane. I have a waterfall on my pool and I was worried the lower pressure from a lower speed would cause the waterfall to not run as smooth or well, but it works great, and when the lower speed is on, I cannot even hear the pump. It sounds like it is off completely from 10 feet away. I would highly recommend this pump if you want quiet and lower speed (wattage) options. Electrical was way easier than the Hayward, terminals were easy to get to and secure the wire. Would have been nice if they supplied the conduit connection as my right angle didn't go back on due to interference and needed to go straight in (old pump had a right angle and could not reuse). ... show more

I previously had (2) Hayward single-speed pumps that I had for my filter and water feature. With this pump, I replaced them both and just installed an additional three-way valve to control the outflow. It fit right on to the existing union that was there for my Hayward pump and didn't need to be replumbed at all!! I did have to plumb a new outflow as I was installing a new water route, but that was easy to do. I highly recommend this 3.0hp pump, and it saved me several hundred dollars over a lower 1.5hp pump!! ... show more

My 8 year old Pentair Intelliflo that cost $1200 in 2015 went out. The replacement model was $1859 and new the one was already discontinued for a more expensive one. I started looking at different brands and the B&D kept popping up. At first I thought it was too cheap and wouldn't be the same quality, but after watching a couple YouTube videos I decided to go for it. Two things jumped out at me watching the videos; 1. I didn't need the 3hp a 1 1\2hp would be plenty and 2. They made the B&D practically the same size as Pentair and Hayward for easy replacement. It was a perfect height match for my Pentair and just about a 1/4" shorter from center of outflow to front of inflow, luckily I was able to slide my sand filter a 1/4" and then it was perfect. The wiring was a cinch just 3 wires in the box and the ground to earth wire. I have seen some people say you can't fit a 90 deg flex fitting on but I had no problem and if it was I would have simply taken the fan cover off. Pros over the Pentair: 1.Quieter than even the quiet VS Pentair 2. Simpler scheduling set up 3. Warranty 5 year B&D vs. 3 month Pentair 4. Shows the watts used at every rpm so you you know exactly what it costs you to run the pump 5.Comes with 2" or 1 1/2" pipe fittings ( I didn't use either as it was a perfect match to my Pentair I literally just screwed old ones off then screwed them on to new pump 6. I saved $1000!! Con 1. The orange and black color scheme ( it's a reach but I really haven't seen a con yet) I will update my post if warranted but so far it kicks the other brands butt ... show more

My existing pump died and being in CA, I was required to replace with a variable speed pump. Not wanting to spend a lot of money, I was concerned buying a Black and Decker pump. After installing and running it for a week, I am very happy. It is quieter then a vacuum cleaner and was easy to install. I was able to use the existing pipe layout as the ports for the pump were the same as my Hayward pump that died. I read a lot of reviews before I buy any product on Amazon. This has been a great pump thus far. Surprisingly quiet and the keyboard interface is easy to use.
