  • Perfect chainsaw for keeping things trimmed up around the house
Style: Chainsaw
This worked out perfectly. Great price for a great tool. It was plenty powerful enough for the 14" wide tree I had to deal with. It cut smoothly and was easy to handle. My biggest issue I came up with was a safety one, I guess I had somehow bumped the top safety guard when I sat it down and then trying to use it again couldn't get it to turn on not realizing this is a safety switch and you just have to push it the other way to let it turn on again. The chain storage guard is nice to try and keep it clean while stored away and not let anything/anyone bump the sharp blade parts. The other issue I had was while trying to cut sideways it seemed like the chain wanted to become lose but when cotton upright it seemed to be fine. So when I was making some crazy cuts I did have to tighten the chain a few times. Otherwise it worked perfectly and glad I got it. Not having to worry about batteries was nice and it had plenty of power. ... show more

  • Very Nice!!
Style: Chainsaw
My old corded saw finally died in the middle of removing stumps so I needed a replacement. Black and Decker has always been good to me so I thought their saw would be good. It is excellent! I love the tool less chain tension adjustment and maintenance. I love the brake on the blade. As soon as you let up on the trigger the blade stops dead. No waiting for it to spin down in order to set the saw down. I used the original blade to top a stump, and found it very sharp and cut the stump quickly. I then replaced the blade with a carbide blade in order to cut the roots of the stump in the dirt. No steel blade is going to stand up to that abuse so I did not ask the original blade to do that. Carbide bits stand up quite well to cutting wood in dirt. The saw performed wonderfully and handled the abuse admirably. I needed to adjust the blade tension repeatedly while going through the dirt so the tool less tension adjustment mechanism was greatly appreciated. After removing 4 stumps I cleaned the saw up and reinstalled the original blade. The carbide blades will be off to the sharpening shop in the morning. If you are looking for a corded saw you would be hard pressed to find a better one. ... show more

  • Took a Wood Playground Down With Ease!
Style: Chainsaw
I needed a chainsaw for multiple uses in my backyard (cutting branches, taking down a wooden playground) during a renovation. PROS: - It cuts great! Smooth and fast, it was able to drive straight through the thick pieces of wood on my kids old, playground. It made it so simple to cut it down into smaller sections that could go right into the outside trash bin. - Having no prior knowledge of assembling a chainsaw, or what to expect, I was able to get everything put together without issue. - Take care of branches like a pro. I was able to cut everything, from smaller branches (appx 2" in diameter), to much thicker ones. No problems at all. - Self lubricating chain is great! The last chainsaw I owned had a little 'push button' to administer the oil. This chainsaw does it automatically, and even has a see through section so you know when the oil is getting low. CONS: - On your first use (as stated in the instructions) you'll want to keep a close eye on the chain. It will likely loosen up during sawing through things. You'll need to unplug it, and re-tighten a few times. (otherwise, you risk damaging the chain) - If you're a smaller person (I'm 5'0 with a thin build), it is a bit heavy, making it a bit more difficult to lift. But, I was still able to tackle all tasks in the end (just with caution). - It does require assembly, and if you're not familiar with chainsaws, the instructions are a bit confusing. (However, I was still able to piece everything together without a problem, and it's working great - I went by the little visuals, versus actually reading the text, since it used terms I wasn't familiar with). TIP: Be sure to have your bar and chain oil ready, you do not want to run / use this chainsaw without it as it can damage the chain. Overall, I really am happy with this chainsaw and it's holding up great to get the jobs done with ease. ... show more

  • Solid Occasional Use Chain Saw.
Style: Chainsaw
Have to say I’m pleased with this chain saw for the price. I’ve taken down two 20 to 25 foot trees with it and cut them up without issues. Trimmed a handful of thick branches on very large trees on my property where a pruning saw would not be feasible. I’ve also taken down some larger bushes as well without issue. I wouldn’t call it “light weight,” but the weight is not terrible even after holding on to it for 20 or 30 minutes. I like that the chain stops immediately when you release the trigger. I’m sure they all do this nowadays, but I was using an older Craftsman one that didn’t seem to have whatever clutch-safety mechanism this one does. It kept spinning for a bit after you released the trigger and I always had to be careful. And, no carb, oil or gas to deal with like a gas chainsaw. Perfect for me where I don’t need to take down and cut up a lot of large trees. I had some concerns about the big plastic blade mount/tensioner nut, but it seems to hold up and stay in place. My old saw was a 14” and I definitely appreciate the 18” one. Makes jobs easier. I’d be hard pressed to go smaller than this, even if you only use it occasionally. ... show more

  • I am nothing but pleased, for 90 bucks(bought the 5 dollar insurance JIC) I am nothing but pleased, for 90 bucks(bought the 5 dollar insurance JIC)
Style: Chainsaw
Bought it a week ago. Got tired of reading reviews, just picked out one of the 3 million brands available. First electric saw I have ever owned and operated. I am nothing but pleased, for 90 bucks(bought the 5 dollar insurance JIC), its a great deal. Assembly involves putting the bar on it, no tools required. If you can't do that right, you probably should not be operating a chainsaw. Bought the Husqvarna chain oil. Gave it a true test today, first time use. Great performance: cuts logs like its warm bread, even the 19 inch red oak branch that I had to dismantle. Very low noise, not like a gas saw. Almost no kick back, and chain tension is a breeze, tool free deal. Oil consumption was proper, about 200ml or 4-5 oz for half hour worth of constant use. Clean up is easy too, and nothing got gunked up or messy at the oil pick up, no oil leaks/excess either. All said and done, processed about 2 tons(4000lbs) of firewood today with it without any issues at all. Bottom line: For around the yard/home owner type of gig, this saw is great! Its light, easy to use, low noise, low oil use, smoke free and quite sturdy and powerful. I would absolutely recommend it! If I had to criticize it I would say two things: The bar seems a bit thin, rather delicate, I think that might be a potential weakness if you are not careful and gentle. Also, the trigger does not have variable speed- its ether 100% power or off. I don't think that is an issue really, just thought that it would be nice to have some more control and less speed for the small stuff. ... show more

  • Great with a Granberg Chainsaw Mill Great with a Granberg Chainsaw Mill
Style: Chainsaw
Amazing value. I have been milling logs for furniture making for about 5 years using a gas chainsaw (Husqvarna 450 Rancher) and last year began experimenting with this Black & Decker 18" corded electric. It cuts as well as the gas saw with far less noise, fumes and maintenance. Using the Granberg Chainsaw mill and this saw I have milled 2 fairly large trees (Elm and White Oak) into slabs. It took some practice, patience and experimentation to figure out the best approach with the larger sections of the logs. The tool-less chain tensioning system works fairly well, but has a tendency to loosen when dust/debris accumulates in the mechanism. A good cleaning remedies the issue. All of the slabs (12"-24" wide) in the photos were milled with this saw. I have burned out 2 saws, which is not unexpected given that it was not designed for this application. The value of a single slab exceeds the cost of a new saw and Amazon drops a new one off on my front porch in a couple of days. ... show more

  • Great For Small And Medium Cuts BUT NOT For Big Boy Stuff!!! Great For Small And Medium Cuts BUT NOT For Big Boy Stuff!!!
Style: Chainsaw
INTRO: It leaks oil during storage, and when push comes to shove with large, harder firewood, it spews oil and after some hard use, it came apart on me during use. NARRATIVE: I bought this a year ago, and barely used it much at first. It's 11 months later and after trying to use it like a real chain saw, well, you'll see. I am not new to using chainsaws. Spent quite a few summers on a cut-gang in Maine, so this isn't quite my first rodeo. When I first had this beast in my possession, it went to town on small and medium-like branches and small firewood. I was not unhappy. THE GOOD: It does have great safety features, and as with all chainsaws, has to be handled with great respect and 'kid gloves' so you can avoid stupid situations. If you ALWAYS tread carefully, a chainsaw is a great tool. THE BAD: LEAKS OIL: when I stored it, it bled oil out all over where I had it, soaking oil into the floorboards of my storage shed. I wrote Black & Decker describing the scenario, they said, paraphrased: "Yep, it does. Please drain your oil reservoir prior to storage." Wow.. thanks for that warning. LEAKING OIL AND STARTS TO COME APART DURING USE: My fire wood supply is a tough challenge of shapes and sizes and for most of this winter, I was coming at these pieces with a lot of back-bending work. But I found that if I had to push hard into the wood, the oil starts plopping out all over the place. (see image) Then starting a few weeks ago, all kinds of fun was to be had. The side cover popped off during use. With a few adjustments, I thought I got it back on. But then it just started falling off, period during use. I had to hold the black side cover on by hand while sawing. I gave up and just used the chainsaw without the cover. That went well for a while. Then the chain tensioner started to come loose and fail during use so the chain started coming off. (see other images) I gave up on any real firewood and tackled a pallet with thin slats, but alas, this chainsaw can't seem to even want to tackle this. I thought I'd give this orange beast a try and even though it did it's thing for a little while through the front half of the winter, apparently it's better suited for light to medium work at best. The heavy firewood defeated it in grand fashion. Sigh. I was disappointed in the response to it oozing oil during storage and I'm really disappointed that it just became a useless, decorative wall ornament in my tool shed. IF YOU STICK to light work, small and medium sized cuts (like less than 6 inch or so branches), I think you'll always be happy with this tool. ... show more
