  • Best Battery Charger. Easy to use. Brought back Dead battery, Multiple Modes.
Size: 15 Amp Style: Charger
Very pleased. I had ordered a Die Hard Charger from Walmart that was suppose to charge all types of batteries AGM, GEL, and WET with automatic settings. After days of trying it it just wouldn't charge a battery that was completely dead with no residual charge. Knowing that it is difficult to revive a battery once it has lost to much power I was skeptical about getting another charger. This Black & Decker charger was perfect. Not only was it easy to learn to use and understand it offers different modes and the Display lets you know exactly what is going on unlike the other one. It showed me that I had 8.1 volts and was unusable. I tried the regular Charge but it wouldn't work so I put it in Battery Reconditioning mode and let it go for 24 hours. The next day it wasn't doing any better so I let it go a second day in Reconditiioning Mode. The Reconditioning Mode doesn't show success or failure. The best way to describe it is it stimulates the battery. So after 2 days I decided to try Charge again. At first I thought it was dead, I got FL0 indicator. I stepped away a few minutes and came back it it was charging at 14.4 and the battery was 75% full. It did reach 100% of capacity at 13.4 volts, battery saved. Just one thing to note. When you hit the button for charge the light goes on and you see the activity. If you hit the button again thinking you need to in order to see progress you inadvertently turn the charger off. Use the Battery Voltage button to check progress at any time. It illuminates the the LED screen for a minute and then turns back off and doesn't affect anything else. Best battery charger I ever bought. Charging the tractor battery now. I don't usually write reviews but this one was worth it. ... show more

  • Good charger. reliable. Iin future, I will purchase the West Marine version of this same unit
Size: 15 Amp Style: Charger
Lot of elect inform on control panel. i expected it to hold the battery at exactly 13.4v like the West Marine version does of this same unit. The B&D brings to 13.4, goes into FLO mode, but lets the battery drop to 12.6 to 12.8v before kicking back on., THis is decent but not the best for the longest life of the batteries. THey should be held at exactly 13.4 v continuously round the clock 24/7, all year when your boat, mower, golf cart, etc is not being used. This B&D was only $60, less than the West Marine brand at $99, but i would purchase the WEST MARINE brand next time do the consistent 13.4 volt FLO mode. Best charger I know of though for between $60 and $100. I have two of them for a few years now. I know some Minn Kota's that act like the B&D - they bring to 13.4v, then let it drop down(whowever long that takes), to 12.6v then brings the voltage back up. Its better than letting it go dead, but not the very best way to keep batteries. I've had 4 batteries on different boats no over a few decades, and each has lasted 6 years at which point i change it anyway. Not sure why they changed the programming just for B&D, but i am trying to reach the manufacturer ( I N T E R T E K ) to find if that is correct but so far i cant find a phone #. Sorry so long, but just a lesson in batteries. Have a good day. ... show more

  • Bad warranty and tech help. Works erratically and not consistent
Size: 15 Amp Style: Charger
Worked somewhat okay for 6 months [ couple blips like not charging overnight for no reason] then went into recon mode and couldn't get out of it. I use it on a top of the line Optima blue top deep cycle boat battery that I bought at the same time. I put the battery on the charger after every use { fishing boat weekend use } and 6 months after ownership it got stuck in recon mode. After following the manuals instructions its supposed to kick back to charging after it does this. It wouldn't after 3 days and rafter e setting it again and again after ample time in recon. It showed 11.2 volts so it wasn't very low. I could not override the recon so it would not charge full for the next use. I then tried it on another battery to get the same result plus a 6 month old Optima shouldn't need recon already. I then used my old Battery Tender brand charger to charge it and it went back to 13volts in a short amount of time and showed no recon needed. I put the Black and decker back on now it says full charge.Huh? This after I had it not charging overnight once before for no reason. I wrote the tech department at Black and decker per the manual to only tell me they dont deal with this and they would forward it to the parent company to handle it. They responded with a scripted canned response" Basically send it in , they will fix it when they get to it with no time frame, no shipping is covered to them or shipping back and if it needs fixing they will fix it. If it needed replacement [ under 1 year] they would replace it with NO warranty on the new one and you pay to ship it back! If nothing is found when they test it and you pay to ship it back and get your bad charger. I asked what the warranty covered and if it was an erratic situation what would happen if they said "it was fine". They sent me a response showing their warranty and it was like a piece of " Swiss cheese" full of holes and outs for them. Good luck getting something covered if its broke let alone the fact you would wait forever ,pay the shipping back and forth. Just forces you to throw it away and buy something else because who wants to pay $20 plus shipping on a $60 item that may just get sent back to you with no fix.Junk charger, bad warranty , bad tech help. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Not for someone who needs a dependable charger to use a on a regular basis. If you use it only a couple times a year well you may have a chance.....good luck ... show more
