The pump is very quiet like any other variable speed pump. I am pleased with the price and I hope it lasts as long as my old single speed Hayward pump (16 years). Installation was relatively easy. I had to make few minor tweaks to existing plumbing as this pump has different dimensions. I had to raise the height of the pump by adding RV jack pads so that I would do minimal plumbing work. You may buy them at any store for <$30. I wanted something that would be weather resistant and not look too bad. Else, you may go cheaper by buying floor tiles or patio pavers. You just need to try different things to see what works best for you. The pump has a clock and timer runs off the pump. My old pump was connected to a mechanical timer. I did not want to spend $$ on an electrician. I used the existing wires routed to the mechanical timers and to the pump but I removed the start-stops on the timer so that the pump timer would drive the program and not the mechanical timer. Each situation is unique and you may need to get creative. My old pump had a freeze guard, which is a mechanical knob and you set the temp to kick on when you want to. With the new pump, since I bypassed the mechanical timer, I was worried about cold weather affecting my pump/plumbing & pool. However, the tech support over phone mentioned that the pump will automatically kick on when it reaches near freezing temps and I verified that it actually did kick on when temps were low. He also suggested that I could just leave the pump running on one speed on manual mode if I knew that we would have cold days. I am yet to try custom programs but for now, I will just stick to the default program. Overall, I am pleased with the price, performance, noise level, and relative ease of installation.

WELL WORTH THE MONEY WHILE SAVING A TON OF MONEY!!! This thing is awesome! I purchased the 3HP model for my 25k gallon pool. Just because it's cheaper than an Hayward or Pentair, doesn't mean it isn't good quality. I did all the installation myself and it it so easy. I live in Florida and am always running the pool and AC and my FPL bill was about $400/month...now it's not more than $170/month since installing this thing. My last pump would run for 7-8hrs a day and used so much energy. I run this thing at various speeds for 16hrs a day and turn over my pool about 4-5 times/day. Also, this thing is quiet....SO QUIET! At less than 1250RPM, you need to stand right next to it to hear it. Also, this thing is POWERFUL. On full speed, 3450RPM, it is still really quiet. I like the programmable speeds and durations you can set for the cleaning schedule. The only thing that was a little awkward is the Black and Decker Orange color they decided to put all over it lol. I don't care about aesthetics of it because it is just an awesome pump! Definitely recommend. Oh and not to mention the 5 year warranty that goes with it, Hayward and Pentair carry a 1 year I believe.

My Hayward 2700 HP display stop functioning. Their customer service was so hard to deal with. I researched and found this Black& Decker 3 HP pool motor. It's over $1,000 cheaper than the Hayward and you get better quality and a better warranty. The install was easy and simple. I am running it for now until I set the schedule. I'm extremely happy with the purchase.

It works well, easy to program. Quiet. It freaks out and stops working after a rainstorm or power outage. After shutting the power off for a little while it begins working again. It makes me nervous to think I paid $1100 for it, my expectation is 7 to 10 years. I don't know if it will make it. It's maybe 6 months old.

Significantly discounted off comparable brands (though slightly more that the base model Blue Torrent that B&D rebranded, upgraded and added a huge warranty to). Easy to install (that is, as easy as installing a pump given an existing PVC maze)…if you have a mainstream pump that you are replacing, you should be able to slip the old out and slide the new one in (I had a VERY OLD PUMP, so had to run a lot of PVC) (variable base helps with the matchup for short/tall inlets). It’s sucks well, runs quiet, and programs easy… Only “complaint” is that the cover on the controller is REALLY TIGHT, so is a bit of a bear to get open, but I think that is per design/function to protect the screen. Very pleased so far, and excited to see how much the electric bill is reduced (my 24 hour running costs is a little over my former hourly rate)…for more filtration, much less noise, and no more stale water. What else can I say?? Oh yeah…the folks at Pool Parts to Go are really on the ball. Helped rescue me from myself on shipping (FedEx reroute). Thanks PP2G!!

I purchased the 3HP Variable Speed Motor. I figured I would rather have more HP than necessary just in case. I expected the motor to be just as loud as my previous Hayward EcoStar 2.7HP variable speed pool pump was but it was almost whisper quiet. I really love how quiet this motor was and that I can crank it to 3000 RPM or higher without distubing me and my neighbors. My old Hayward Ecostar pool pump was loud at 3000 RPM and I had to keep it at 2500 RPM do not disturb people. I like how this Black and Decker Pool pump can run at high RPM and still be whisper quiet. The only thing I don't like about this pool pump is that it has BLACK AND DECKER in BIG BOLD letters on the side and that's not really a name you associate with Pool equipment. But I guess I'll learn to appreciate it.

For my application this is an excellent pump compared to more expensive variable pumps. Living in Arizona I can't buy a single speed pump. It was basically very easy to replace my old single speed Pentair. It had the exact plumbing location and wiring two 120v wires and a ground return was very easy. This pump has four programmable stations. They only run in series not independent. It's great for me because all I needed was a pool pump to circulate my pool water through the pool filter. When setting up the current time and station parameters you can use either the AM/PM selection or 24 hour selection. Use only one mode. I used AM/PM for setting the current time and 24 hour for customizing the four stations. It didn't work. As soon as I changed to the 24 hour mode for everything the pump worked perfectly. I've only run it for about 2 weeks and the only reason it's not 5 stars.

Replaced a Pentair VSP. This pump is about 1/2” shorter otherwise everything lined up perfectly. Primes quickly and sound level is phenomenal. Quieter than the previous pump. As a matter of fact at anything less than max RPM you cannot even hear it running. Excellent purchase and easy install. Save the money and buy one of these if you need anew pump. Note: you can get a remote programable keypad aftermarket for $95 if you want to add freeze protection. It does not have this feature as is.
