So far so good with this cordless trimmer. I had my old for quite a while and was nervous about having to get a new one. The price is great for this trimmer as it does everything i need. It is easy to use. It doesnt have the auto feed my old one did where it just fed everytime you start it, but it has a button that you simply press while you are running and it feeds it. The power has been more than enough and the speed is fine. It has 2 power settings for longer life or stronger power. I love that it comes with 2 batteries. Those are usually the most expensive thing and i just have them both charged and put on in my pocker when i use it. I never need it as i dont have a lot, but its nice to know i can just slip it on if the battery runs dead. It is very light which helps with my back and it is versatil too because you can easily flip it to edging if you want. I am very pleased with the cost and effectiveness

As a woman that was looking for an easier way to do lawncare this year, I opted to buy this because it's light and simple. It has two speeds, one normal and one more powerful. I trimmed grass along my fence mostly, so it cut that with ease. It also cut through thicker weeds well too. I did not experience any weakness in this tool unless the battery was dying. I love that the length is very easily adjustable for use and storage. It also edges pretty well, however, it will use up a lot of the battery. It also can be used with other Black & Decker batteries, so I was able to use my hedger batter with it. I will say, I do think these batteries may be a little weaker than my old ones. Regardless, the product works well and was a great value for the money!

This string trimmer works as well as any, I suppose. The two batteries that come with it are small and require recharge too soon. So, I bought a larger off-brand battery that lasts a lot longer. Because the charging takes so long, I recommend that anyone who has significant trimming to do should buy a larger capacity battery. ( I have not looked into whether a fast charger exists for these batteries.) The ability to quickly change from horizontal to vertical trimming position of the "working end" of the trimmer is very convenient. So, basically, this is a good trimmer that comes with small capacity batteries. But, one big flaw for this trimmer (and possibly for other brands as well) is the design of the trigger mechanism. Over time, I noticed that it was getting more and more difficult to press the trigger after having depressed the safety switch. (The safety switch, by the way, is a real pain -- in all of these type tools. There should be a way to bypass it.) The trigger seemed like it was getting hung up, and I had to bang the working end on the ground while trying to depress the trigger in order to get it going. Finally, I could not get the trigger to start the motor, no matter how hard I depressed it. So, I figured I'd take it apart and see what was going on with the switch. Easier said than done. I Googled how to repair the string trimmer, and found a Youtube video that showed how to take a similar model apart. The problem I had was "how to remove the handle" -- which you must do, in order to take it apart. The handle is made of a very resilient plastic that has a slight "give" to it, and you must force it off of the unit. (I had been afraid that it would crack/break if I did that -- but, that is what you have to do.) The video also showed that the plastic trigger mechanism gets worn, so that it cannot allow the lever to travel far enough to push the microswitch. This is the key to the whole problem: The plastic lever gets worn over time. The solution: file the worn area so that it is smooth again. It is a simple fix -- but, it would not happen if the lever were made out of a more durable material. So, there you have it: If you are having trouble with the switch trigger-- look up the Youtube that shows how to fix the trigger. Also, be aware that when you put it back together, the spring that allows you to move the head into the horizontal/vertical positions must be positioned entirely into the "large space" and you will not be able to close the two halves of the unit if that spring is not positioned properly (Trust me: I spent a lot of time trying to get the two halves closed together.)

I just realized that I have been using this weed eater for 8 years now. EIGHT YEARS. Still love it. Best weed eater out there for normal grass and weed trimming. Sure it won't cut down small trees like a commercial one will but I don't need it to do that. No having to wrap new line around a spool. Just change out the spool when it runs out which happens very seldom compared to traditional ones. The auto feed is a dream. One push of a button and lines out there. No having to bump it off the ground like the old ones. It weighs nothing so my back doesn't get tired and the price is incredible for what you get. Fits in any spot for storing it. You can trim in tight spots with ease and then flip it over for edging. With it being so light in easy to maneuver around tight spots. I still can't believe its 8 years old. Its still looks like new. Ive had to take it apart two times over that time to get vines out of the cutting head bearing area but that was some nasty vine cutting that caused it. Highly recommend this one. Works great with after market batteries too. The stock batteries lasted about 10 minutes or so. Very short. I can cut 30 minutes on the grey black and decker batteries I have which are 2ah or something. The aftermarket 6 ah batteries will cut for an hour straight. No one in their right mind should cut more than an hour straight. Isn't healthy :) Main thing is if you want a small lightweight weed eater that will always work and you can take for granted this is the one folks. Buy it.

Weed eaters have always defeated me! I gave up even getting one started years ago and hired it out. I recently moved to a location with more land and decided to give the battery-powered weed eater a try for small jobs (around flower beds, edging patio, etc.,). Black & Decker has never failed me so I stuck with it and am well-pleased! The weed eater itself is light and no problem to use. I even have a bum shoulder that limits mobility, and it doesn’t even twinge it. For light work, edging, etc., this is perfect. It’s strong enough to knock it down and keep things looking nice. Because it was so easy I decided to try the grown-up ditchline. It was easy to so, although it required more exertion, and did a decent job on the thick, heavy weeds. The only negative might be the lack of battery life for these bigger jobs. I read on reviews or instruction manual one that it has about a 30-minute battery life. For the smaller jobs around flowerbeds and edging, it lasted much longer; for the ditchline, much less. T comes with two batteries though and the batteries and charger are universal to my other B&D small tools so it works out great. Highly recommend this for those of us horrible at weed eating!

Solid 5-stars on this one. This weed whacker is hands down the best I've ever owned. Battery/ies DO come with it. Fairly solid construction - it's got plenty of plastic pieces, but they aren't too flimsy or easily breakable. Battery power and life are excellent. I've got a small to medium-sized yard with a fence around it, and one battery takes care of it all. Just in case it were to run out, the second battery (which comes with, if you choose that option) is on the charger. There are two battery "modes" - power and battery life - and they do exactly what they sound like. Power mode gives you more cutting power (at the expense of battery life) and battery life gives you longer cutting time (at the expense of cutting power). I've found that the vast majority of my weekly weed whacking needs are taken care of using the battery life mode. You can quickly and easily switch between the two modes if you need a little more oomph. Battery runs about 20-30 mins (of actual cutting) on the power saving mode, a bit less on power mode. If you find you need more run time or power, you can always upgrade to higher capacity Black+Decker universal battery (available at hardware stores, Amazon, etc). As for the string/cut wire, there are easily-replaceable pre-loaded heads that simply click into place. From what I've read in other reviews, there are ways you can string it yourself with whatever string you like. Personally, I'll stick with the pre-wounds - I'm 3 weeks into this product and still using the first pre-loaded cartridge that came with it. Plus you can get a three-pack of replacements on Amazon here for about $9 (product number is AF-100-3ZP). The product description doesn't say this unit has an auto-feed feature, and says it has a button on the handle that releases more string; the button sure does work, but I've found that the unit seems to be auto-feeding itself most of the time too. I've rarely had to to "tell it" to let out more line. It's been quite convenient and thus far hasn't tangled or anything. Additionally, the unit can be extended to make it taller/shorter. You just twist the lock, shorten or lengthen as-needed, and twist the lock back into place. Very quick and simple. There is a "safety" on the handle that you need to hold down with the side of your thumb before you can pull the trigger. It's very conveniently placed and doesn't make it hard to use. My only minor complaint with this unit is the handle (the one mid-way down, not the one with the trigger). It functions just fine, but it's got "lock" points (to set the angle how you like it) that occasionally come loose. It has to be set to one of these three lock points and sometimes, if you've been using it awhile, it'll vibrate out of the lock and slip to the next one. Takes all of about 2 seconds to set it right again, so it's certainly not a deal breaker, just a little annoying when it happens.

Update: The trimmer itself is ok. But without working batteries, this is not worth purchasing. When the package arrived, I began to charge the batteries (that were included) with the charger (included). I was able to try the trimmer with the batteries that I had from my Black and Decker drill. This was the very reason we were excited for this product - two more batteries! However, the little lights on the battery charger were flashing red for hours when I was charging the new batteries. The batteries were not hot, they were just completely dead. After checking their model number, I learned they were from 2021 (3 years old). I then called Amazon for a replacement (not recommended), and although they were very accommodating, they were not helpful in the end. They recommend sending a replacement for exchange, and the replacement arrived with batteries from 2021 just like the first shipment which also did not work at all. When I called in again, Amazon offered a discount of about $20... Not enough for one generic battery let alone two replacements. I will also mention that my call dropped, so when I called again, Amazon offered less ($16). I then voiced my frustration because they were literally haggling to see if I'd accept a lower price. It is likely not a coincidence that two packages arrived with batteries from the same date, and all the batteries had the same issue. Shame on you, Amazon. Buyer beware! This is an issue with items on the shelf of an Amazon factory. However, we decided to keep the trimmer after contracting the manufacturer (Black and Decker). They were willing to replace the batteries. They sent us two brand new batteries in their packaging. This did, however, take almost three weeks when all was said and done. I would not recommend this product from Amazon, but I am happy to report that Black and Decker is a company that backs its products.

I LOVE this! My previous trimmer gave out on me. I tried a corded one and it was terrible. I got this and it works great. I love that it came with two batteries. It does a good job. It’s easy and light enough to twist to get the edger position. The power is pretty good. Not weak at all. The auto feed is great because it does it on its own. I usually mess that up with any trimmer. It’s been a great value for what I paid. It even dropped in price from when I first put it in my cart to the actual purchase. I looked for a while and I think I got a great deal with this trimmer compared to others in the same price range.
