  • Whacking the "Bush" in Alaska!
Style: 20V Chainsaw Kit
Black & Decker is a name in tools that I know and trust for making quality products. I was happy to see that they make this battery powered chainsaw. We have a gas chainsaw but like many others have noted, starting it takes more energy than using it. I really needed something easier and faster to use. We're mainly cutting Aspen and some pine for firewood. As soon as this came in the mail, I pulled out the battery and the charger and got it to cooking. It took about 5 hours as the booklet said to reach a full charge. During that time, I read through the instruction booklet and put the saw together. That didn't take more than a few minutes and requires absolutely no tools. I was impressed with the sturdiness of the saw. The saw is made of metal and plastic and is very light and well-balanced. I'm not a big, strong lumberjack, I'm a great-grandmother, so I'm not all that keen on chainsaws but doing a job without the right tool is just wrong. This is the right tool for me. I was able to cut a nice pile of logs up in the 20 minutes of operating time for the battery charge. I have a picture of my pile below. I like the weight and how easy it is to use the saw. I don't like the manual lube of the chain. It's annoying to have to push the little plunger after every cut or so to keep the chain lubed. I like that I feel safe while using the saw. It seems easy to keep it in control as it's not running anywhere near as fast as our gas chainsaw. I also like how easy it is to adjust the tension on the chain if I see it getting a little loose. I don't have to stop what I'm doing and pay attention to taking care of that. Bottom Line: The price was right and I'm happy with my purchase. If I could do it over knowing what I know now, I would probably opt for the 40V version with the automatic chain lube and a little more power but this will work for me for now. Day Two: I wanted to add a few thoughts after spending a second day with this little chainsaw "wannabe". Today we tacked a 50+ foot Aspen with approximately a 7 inch diameter. We won't be trying that again. The B&D cuts too slow for a job like this and in the end, the tree fell all wrong even with the right cuts. We again only had 20 minutes of cutting power and that was enough to down the tree and cut it into small enough sections to get on the sled to haul out of the woods. I used my gas powered chainsaw to finish the job of cutting it into firewood. This is a great little tool for having around the yard for cutting up limbs and fallen trees. It's sturdy, easy to use and well-designed (except for the manual lube on the chain). It's a step up from a hedge cutter and a step down from a gas chainsaw power-wise. Consider your needs and how you will be using this before you buy it. ... show more

  • Works great
Style: 20V Chainsaw (Tool Only)
Perfect for light, quick trimming of 2" and less branches. Light weight, easy to use. Bring an extra battery for jobs that may require them. Keep the chain lube full. Might leak a little but better than worn out chain.

  • Impressed, ran longer than I was expecting and is really handy.
Style: 20V Chainsaw (Tool Only)
The media could not be loaded. This is my first cordless electric chainsaw. I always thought electric saws were a joke and never considered buying one until recently. We were brushing out an old ATV trail and didn’t want to attract attention from the new, nearby homes by using a noisy chainsaw. We used hand tools and I thought how nice it would be to have an electric chainsaw for the larger alders. I tested it out today and was surprised by how long the 2.0 ah battery lasted. It was really nice not to deal with the exhaust and noise. The bugs also seemed to be a lot less noticeable likely due to the lack of exhaust. The chain doesn’t spin very fast so it cuts noticeably slower than a gas saw. It also bounced and chattered far more than a gas saw. That was really annoying. The saw wasn’t as light as I was expecting but it’s not particularly heavy either. It’s construction leaves me in doubt as to how long it’ll last. My B&D weed wacker is all plastic and it’s held up fine for the past 4 years so hopefully this saw will too. But a guy will need to be more careful with this saw than a gas model just because the flex in the bar is noticeable. In testing it out today I found myself cutting way more than I planned just because it was so easy. There were a number of branches I’ve been meaning to cut for years but never wanted to fire up my gas saw just for a few random things. This electric saw made it too easy. Grab the saw, gloves and safety glasses and away you go. The bar oil seems like it’ll last through several batteries as long as you are not cutting things horizontally as the oil leaks out of the vent hole in the cap. That was really annoying and a poor design. I’m glad I bought this saw, it’ll be perfect to carry on my four wheeler for small jobs or for some discreet ninja cutting of fatbike trails. Not having to pack gas and oil is really appealing. This saw isn’t going to replace a gas saw (unless you rarely cut anything) but is a nice compliment to it. I can see throwing it into a car if you were heading out wanting to have a small fire somewhere. It wouldn’t stink up the vehicle with gas fumes. In my photos I showed part of what I cut on one battery. I was surprised how long the battery lasted. I had to tighten the chain once, the adjustment system wasn’t as easy to use as I was expecting but not needed to bring a separate tool was nice. Be forewarned, this saw likes to pack up that area with debris far more than any gas saw I’ve used. You’ll need to pull stuff out from time to time. Yeah, overall it’s a nice, handy little saw that was reasonably priced and works quite well for what it is. ... show more

  • Excellent tool for the dandy lumberjack
Style: 20V Chainsaw Kit
The saw is slightly rugged, easy to use, and it works very well on cutting thick dry wood. I love that it isnt noisy like its petrol powered cousins! I used corn oil in the lubricant tank and it works great, is cheap, readily available at the grocery store, and environmentally friendly. You need to know that this thing leaks like crazy so set it down on a piece of cardboard because it will leak oil! BTW, it's supposed to leak oil since the oil goes to the chain not the motor. The safety devices are good and read & follow the safety instructions, this thing will kick back on you and the chain will change your face if you let it. The battery works with other 20v tools from B&D but it is likely the first thing to break since the batteries ARE NOT RUGGED, so be careful to not crack the battery casing using this saw. It is an excellent tool for the residential once-in-a-while use by a dandy dad trying to clean up the yard. It has very good battery life but slows noticeably before powers out so be sure to have a charged battery to replace the one in the saw if you have a medium sized job to be done. No need to wear a flannel shirt while using this one but it does make it more fun. ... show more

  • Works great
Style: 20V Chainsaw (Tool Only)
Does a great job of cutting wood up. It’s light and easy to handle. The bar oil has to be pushed to keep the bar oiled. It will leak when the saw is being stored. Requment the larger batteries as they will last much longer, I use a 6 and 8 ma batteries.

  • Battery powered saw
Style: 20V Chainsaw Kit
I have a larches pasture that backs up to woods. It is great for sawing trees and limbs that have fallen on my fence. Much lighter than gas saws and gets the job done!
