Context: I've so far split a cord of mixed ash and locust, max diam about 14". Pros: 1. Well packed. 2. Good build - all hardware was included & holes lined up. 3. Included motor oil and hydraulic fluid. 4. Engine starts after only 1-2 pulls. 5. Sips gas; fuel consumption less than 2 gals per cord. 6. Splits everything. Cons: 2-person build to get beam on wheels. 2. Hydraulic hoses very stiff risking cross-threading and O-ring contamination. 3. Inside engine mounting bolts almost impossible to reach. 4. Loud - hearing protection mandatory! 5. Wish the wood tray was a little wider and extend even with the wedge. All in all a great value splitter.

The media could not be loaded. Well packaged, (3 heavy boxes) and easy assembly, less than an hour. Unit started right up and I put it to work right away. Even come with oil.

This is one awesome piece of equipment for a home owner who lives out in the woods! This wood splitter is heavy duty and is not made with cheap parts. Be warned though, you do need 2 people to help with the lifting, for at least 1 step, when putting this bad boy together. I am a 60 year old woman, but the main body is VERY heavy. The assembly is easy and they even have a video online to do it. Also, I had 1 issue the first time trying to start it, it was very hard to pull the starter and it would backfire and not start. One email on a Sunday evening to the Bilt Hard company and they answered within 8 hours. They told me there was probably hydraulic pressure buildup or trapped air. They gave me the simple 3 step remedy and sure enough, one easy pull and it started right up! It's been running like a dream ever since. Great product and outstanding customer service!

Extremely powerful and sturdy. Starts on the first pull. Quick cycle time. This can split logs larger and heavier than I can carry! The only issue I've had was a rubber gasket ripped and hydraulic fluid began to spray out. Easy fix, a minor hassle, as I purchased replacement gaskets from auto parts store.

Excellently packaged in 3 box’s. One came a few days later but product support was very responsive. Took me 3 hours to assemble by myself and instructions are excellent as is online video. Video omits installing the 2 O-rings but written instructions have it. Starts right up and very well balanced and at almost twice my weight, I find it easy to move around my yard myself by hand. Love how compact it is for storage. Been splitting by hand for 40 years so this is my first and I’m finding it unbelievable. Heard complaints from some of the larger and older machines as being slow but this is a 7 second cycle or less being you could stop the return where you need it. I would highly recommend the Hard Built!

Great log splitter. Only thing It’s not the easiest to move around on rough terrain. It’ll split nearly anything. It can be a little strain in your back. I’ve split around 6-7 chords of wood so far. Just keep it clean, White grease the rail and it’s good to go.
