OK folks, this is a good inexpensive solution to shade your favorite outdoor area but you have to know your limitations. Don't try to use this umbrella in winds higher than 5-10 mph. Don't try to leave it open unattended as the wind may pickup. Don't lock the pivot on the base as you must allow it to blow with the wind as locking it will stress vital parts when the wind blows them in an opposite direction. Be sure to properly secure your base with a sand bag or simply trash the cross base that comes with it and pour yourself some concrete in a hole with L shaped anchor bolts and attach it directly to a concrete pier like pictured in my photos. When I bought this like you I was skeptical but when I received it I thought how can this company make any money as it surpassed my expectations. After watching many videos and reading up on these offset umbrellas even the expensive ones have their failures if you try to use them in high winds as they were locking the pivot point that swings the umbrella direction. If you don't want to have to worry about the wind you would be better off with a sun sail or some sort of permanent structure. ... show more

LOVE this umbrella! They look great, easy to set up, and they certainly do the job. The negatives: 1) The paint is VERY thin. Just setting these on a hardwood floor with a towel scratched the paint from the pole! 2) The base is designed VERY poorly and without an umbrella base weight, this will tip in the slightest of breezes. I have seen many reviews where the umbrella was damaged by a slight wind and I can attest that before I purchased my base weights, the umbrella would tumble over if a VERY slight breeze could be felt. I would not have expected an umbrella to fall in the kind of light wind we had. However, after adding a 110 pound sand bag base weight, the umbrella has not tipped over even once and it is certainly a great value for the money. ... show more

Love this! Bought it last year and learned from my mistake to not leave it close enough to rub the side of the house, frayed the end so 1 support popped out, I was able to fix it tho. My mistake was leaving it open one morning as I was late for work, high winds bent the pole attached to the braces. Again, my mistake. I recommend waterproofing, and I use sand bags and 1 bag of salt, never an issue with it! I don't know what people are talking about with a "pin", mine has a screw in knob and it works great. I bought another for this year, and learning from my mistakes, it should last longer, if not? For 69.00 I'll happily buy one next year. ... show more

Easy to set up. I bolted mine to the deck. We’ve had lots of wind, and it’s still going strong! The striped pattern is very beach-ish. I love how it looks reflecting off the pool water at night. Much more sturdy than the previous cantilevered umbrella I had.

My husband built it a wood base filled with rock and we have had no issues with it for the 2 years we have had it. It sits out side all year round. It is now badly sun damaged so I am coming back to order a new one. It does blow in the wind (rocks), but we live with trees surrounding us and we don't have an issue. A tree actually smooshed our back yard 2 years ago. The tree took out thousands of dollars worth of stuff in our back yard, like our pool, hot tub and patio furniture. This umbrella stood straight through all the damage, not even a scratch on it. One of the few things that survived a tornado in our back yard sad that it still works, but looks old and tired. I received the product quickly. It’s as cool as it looks (though I wasn't expecting so much plastic). Installation was easy (even though I'm only 5'0). I LOVED it...for 28 days, the day the string that keeps the umbrella open snapped. I wasn't happy. I emailed the seller and we had some frustrations, not because of either of our faults, but because the Amazon email service for such issues needs serious work. I received emails from the seller, and hit "respond" to provide pics. I did this like 4 times, and each time I got no resolution I thought the seller was jerking me around. As it turns out, however, it wasn't. Once we realized the miscommunication was due to this crappy Amazon "internal" email system, and its policy that sellers must use it (only), I sent the seller what it requested and, bam!, within a week a brand new umbrella awaited me at my door when I got home from work. And what I really appreciate is that, even though the umbrella broke 28 days after delivery, I didn't contact the seller until 32 days after delivery. It was only required to help me for 30 days, but it wanted me to be (and made me) a satisfied customer. In this world where we keep our service provider expectations low, because "service" has all but gone out of style, I really appreciated this sellers handling of my frustration and confusion. I bought a similar one of these from another importer/distributor on Amazon.com about 4 years ago for $129. It held up fairly well, but the top pivot mount and the crank box are made of plastic, and the top pivot mount broke a couple of times from the umbrella being left open on windy days. There are no replacement parts sold, so I had to patch it with screws and bolts. But it was now time to replace it because of continuing wind damage. I saw this similar unit now selling for just $69.00 and it is as good or better than my last one, so I bought it. And I am very pleased with its quality and operation. I honestly do not know how they can sell it this cheap, especially when you add in their profit margin, Amazon.com 's fees, import costs, etc. The umbrella arrived within 3 days of ordering it on Amazon. At this price you can not go wrong. And if you are more cautious than I am to close it up when not using it to avoid wind damage, it certainly could last many additional years. Just a note, you do need to weight the base / secure it to the ground with (4) 18' square patio / walkway pavers you can buy at Home Depot / Lowes. ... show more
