  • The wiring harness is intimidating but it does indeed work with a JBL system
Size: for 2+32GB
2Month Update: This thing is still working great overall and I got the steering wheel buttons to work as well as got the Play Store and Google account to work perfectly. Everything was solved by entering in the correct car setting into the factory settings section (requires password, and check the info in this listing from the seller for the correct car code) I'm now downloading apps like Pandora, Amazon Music, Youtube, etc, directly to the unit. It's pretty fun. My kids like having Youtube and other stuff in there. Only issue is it does lag a little with more intensive video and the backup camera. Oh well, can't complain for the price paid. I'll eventually upgrade, but I'm happy for now and the boost to sound quality it provided was a huge deal as well. 1 Month Update: The sound quality has been a huge upgrade over the stock head unit so now I am trying to dial in the volume and bass as loud as I can push it. There's a ton of different settings that help you get the most out the stock JBL system. 2 of the most effective ones seem to be the LOUD and Power Conditioning in the device settings panel. These significantly increase volume and richness of sound. It seems like "power conditioning" may be the same as a gain control on the amp so turning it up really boosts volume and tone but all the way is a bit too much. There's also the equalizer and DSP settings that let you go further with frequency tuning. I've replaced the stock 8" sub with a cheap low wattage, 2ohm sub that has made a huge difference. It doesn't thump the neighborhood but it's nice and loud and hits pretty good inside the cab. Now it's time to upgrade the front door speakers. Other than steering wheel controls still not working the 2 biggest cons have been that the screen can be hard to see in bright full daylight and it does lag on resource intensive apps like web browsing. I would say the only reason to jump to a higher priced system would be for a bright screen in daylight and a faster processor for apps and web browsing. Otherwise this gives you all the features of a more expensive unit for half the price. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you don't have a JBL system just get the same android head unit without a JBL harness. It will spare you some trepidation and is less expensive. I'm rarely intimidated fixing and installing anything I attempt but the JBL adaptor harness made me take a very cautious and slow approach. Customer support was responsive and helpful despite language barrier. I'm attaching images they sent me to help with figuring out what all the plugs were for. The biggest thing is just plug things in where they fit and if anything doesn't fit, leave it hanging. I got the unit wired up and popped it back in using the clips from the old stereo and it's all nice and tight and it sure does look slick. Currently the steering wheel controls aren't working which could either be that mine are broken (stopped working with factory unit) or I may have plugged in wrong connector for it, as a lot of other people are having this issue and I suspect there's 2 possible connections to use for it and if you plug them both in, it cancels the correct one out). The other main issue is that I can't use the front/back speaker fader at the moment. It will only work for front speakers. I suspect I may have plugged in something unnecessary. Everything else seems to work well. The biggest pros are: - Excellent value. it's a quality head unit at a budget price. Probably the best you'll find for a JBL compatible replacement in this price range. - Big improvement in sound quality by having a lot more control over and options. At first it was quiet and I was doubting the purchase, but I played around with settings and brought out a much better and richer sound than the stock system. - Great software interface and processing speed. It's fast and responsive and easy to use with a lot of features. - The extra storage space is nice. I uploaded all of my old ripped CDs from my computer through the USB port quickly and now I can play my entire audio library easily. - The GPS speedometer showing accurate speed and trip data is cool. - I live in an area that gets extremely hot in summer. So far it seems to be fine and doesn't overheat. I don't have any cons yet other than the steering wheel and fader issue. If I can't get those corrected, I'll drop down a star, but so far, this was a great buy. ... show more

  • Works good! Plug & Play Install
Size: for 2+32GB
The media could not be loaded. First let me start by saying that for the price the usability and finish of this Android kit is amazing. It Looks way better than a known brand double din. That being said I misread the description and thought this came with Apple CarPlay and it’s clearly states you need a separate dongle to enable it. (Again that’s my fault for not reading) The installation is extremely easy. Everything you’ll need for the installation is provided. So you don’t need any tools. It comes with (2) plug and play harnesses. The first one is for the base model and the second is for the JBL premium system Tacoma’s. The only thing I wish is that this kit came with the bracket that holds the Hazard Button/Clock in place. You’ll have to remove this from your old OEM radio. Which it is a-bit of a pain but it is doable. My clock/hazard bracket needed a bit of modification to fit flush. If you get impatient you could end up braking it. The Apple CarPlay dongle works great! I haven’t had any issues. Just plug my phone in and Apple CarPlay starts right up. It’s super easy to connect and install. Overall I am happy with my purchase. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • easy install but has some big issues (Not sure I'd buy again)
Size: for 2+32GB
Install was straight forward. steering wheel control was easy once you knew where to find the programming location. (Hint: it's on a little info card) My issues come with the sound qualities. I use Amazon Music and pay for the HD upgrade, the issue is each song played thru the head unit sounds like it's random bit quality. Some of it even sounds lo-fi!. On top of that different volume levels as well as a 1 second glitch/hiccup, each song. where all sound stops then restarts! Next issue is if you change the display screen many of the preset choices you have no phone call choices visible. Your only choice is to use your phone to start the call. no phone screen for easy access to contacts or to voice activate a call. On the default screen it's available but not if you change the default layout. At least on the one I liked. Next issue is same but for test messages. in 2023 you would think an incoming text would initiate a popup on the screen but not on this unit. you can only lower the screen brightness a small amount and only the home screen. and subsequent screen changes when it's evening/night and it's like looking at the sun and there is no changing it that I have found. night driving it is FAR TOO DISTRACTING and I have to turn the unit off. Getting Google maps to work is impossible. I even tried signing into my google account on the radio as well as tethering and hotspotting to/from my phone, which I hate doing, and still can't get it to populate. I'd like to get real-time feedback on traffic while driving. If I hadn't been able to get the steering wheel controls programmed I would have returned this unit immediately but since my factory unit died, and I enjoy music far too much on my daily commutes I'll keep it. I'm going to try the USB connection and see it that fixes the poor sound quality. It might be the wireless coding degrading the sound, but in 2023 I'd rather NOT be forced to be "wired in". I'm looking for the convenience of getting in the truck and not connecting via wires to have to enjoy my music. with all this said for the price it's JUST barley worth keeping. It looks great in my Tacoma. It would look better if they had the option to choose a grey surround to match my interior as shiny black is not my first or second choice. I also left the screen protector on and touch screen still works well. 3.5 stars at most. It's close but just not there. ... show more

  • Falls short of it's potential.
Size: for 2+32GB
Easy to install with the provided harness. Looks great when installed. Unfortunately, the screen quality and user interface are less than average. The deal breaker for me is the call quality is absolutely terrible. It has a built-in mic that does a terrible job in picking up your voice. In addition, the sound through the speakers from the person on the other end is barely intelligible. My 2013 Tacoma has a built in mic in the ceiling, unfortunately this unit is not able to take advantage of such. I tried reconfiguring the sound/volume with no improvement. In a world of hands free driving, unfortunately this is unacceptable. ... show more
