Once I figured out how to set the timer correctly, the feeder worked quite well. Good design, battery seems to last, recharging is nice. BUT, before you and your fishies get to enjoy this nifty feeder, you need to know that the instructions (#5 specifically, as shown in the photo, are just wrong.) The feeding frequency dots are NOT for intervals, and zero dots does NOT mean it will feed your fish every day. Rather, the dots indicate how many compartments will be dispensed at the set time. One dot= one compartment will be dispensed at the set time. Two dots = two compartments will be dispensed. And so on. ZERO DOTS = YOUR FISH GO HUNGRY. It took an embarrassingly long and frustrating time to figure this out.

I service high end aquariums for a living and have tried lots of off brand equipment, most of which is junk. This feeder is fantastically designed and easy to use. I was very impressed with the trap door that stays closed until the feed is dispersed. This should help prevent moisture build up as well as keeping the food from getting splashed from aggressive eaters. If it lasts a long time, I'll be switching from the brand name feeders and exclusively using this. The price of about $27 is less than my wholesale cost of a big brand named feeder.

I loved this product until it quit working. But honestly, I still love it once you figure out the directions. The battery lasts at least a month or more. I have left my fish unattended for more than a month and not had any problems and only had one bar gone on my battery indicator. I have been leaving my 55 gallon tank for several weeks at a time, and my feeders do work about 75% of the time, but there are times when I come back and I see that it hasn't dispensed food at all and I too, like some other commenters have lost fish over the dispenser not working correctly. I've been trying to diagnose it since I really do like these feeders, and I think the times that it doesn't function has to do with some type of programming error that I'm not aware of. To set the frequency you do have to hold the up and down arrow together at the same time for about one to two seconds. I do think the failures have something to do with using the Manuel button. I think it takes it off of its schedule but there is no indicator that it's in "manual" mode. I have pushed that button before I leave the house to make sure everything is functioning properly.. I hate to give a poor review because when it works, it works really great, and given the fact that I'm gone for two weeks or more at a time I would say overall it works, but then as a fish keeper, you have nerves worrying about the one time that it doesn't work in coming home to dead fish. As a note to most fish keepers, you can easily get away with feeding your fish once every other day, it also depends on the breed, etc., but that setting allows this feeder to extend to feed for a whole month, which I have done successfully and not lost any fish. It's a misnomer that fish need to eat every day or even multiple times a day, if you're keeping some of the most common breeds. I do think this is a good product. I think you just have to be very careful about how you program it.

This device came somewhat charged which is a plus but be sure to fully charge it before using for best battery usage. It's easy to set up with its military times so you know the exact hour itll feed your fish. I usually crush my betta food but it doesn't fully sweep the food due to it being too thin, thought when not crushed it works just fine (luckily my fish has gotten bigger so I don't have to crush its food anymore). I feed my fish twice a day so I don't have to check on the food supply for a week. I like the fact that is has suctioning cups to put on top of tanks or the option to clamp it on. 5 stars for me!

Update to one star, literally the day I grabbed this to go on vacation again. Have had this for 5 months, used for 2 weeks and the automation feature is not working. All of the times are set, they have one dot, the daily interval is set to 1, everything matched the instructions and reviews.... And it just doesn't dispense automatically. The manual dispense option works like a charm, but it's not running as expected. Very frustrating for me and my fish.... This was perfect for my week long trip-- it kept my fish fed and was one less thing for my car sitter to worry about Functionality - the programming is confusing, I'm still not sure if I have it set for twice a day or not, but it at least goes once! I'd suggest improving the instructions a little, or making a video for it Capacity - good for goldfish pellets, and holds a decent sized scoop. To dispense it slides open a little trap door, then closes back up and spins the wheels. Nifty. Battery Life - good so far, lasted the entire week and a couple days till I turned it off. The only thing I had an issue with was the ability to clamp it on my tank. It will only work if you have a tank with straight sides, or a very thin ledge. My lid sits on an extruding ledge at the top so the clamp couldn't make a connection on both the outside and inside. My workaround was to sit it on top of the lid right above a small opening in the back where the filter is. It dispensed straight down into the water and as long as I didn't accidentally nudge the feeder away from that hole it worked perfectly. The fish learned the sound of the feeder and knew where in the tank to be!
