I have a box full of scanners, bluetooth OBD plugs and a laptop full of both OEM and aftermarket software. All of them fill a need and some can do far beyond what this scanner can do, BUT they are a PITA to use or very limited compared to what this unit does. I got this because my E39 has an intermittent no crank start problem. I did a bunch of old school electrical testing and the problem remained elusive. I got this unit, downloaded the BMW module and plugged it in. I saved and cleared a boatload of codes (sort of normal for a 17 year old car) and set about looking at the immobilizer module. I go in and click on about 5 items having to do with the key codes and starter inhibit values and I'm off to the races. The first day the car starts every time so since this doesn't draw much power I leave it plugged in. The next day it says no communications but I can quickly select my 5 items again and it's ready to monitor. The second start attempt I see that the key ID is correct (key 7) but it's code is not OK so the starter is inhibited. I grab another key (3) and the car starts right up. Turn it off and put the first key (7) in and it starts. So I know the problem is in the immobilizer key code process and not something like wiring except possibly the antenna coil. It may be the easy fix is to remove the key completely and far enough away for it to be re-recognized when it is re-inserted or maybe have two keys or remove the chips from the keys and keep a couple of chips around. Still too soon to tell. Apparently if you try a bad key code several times the immobilizer shuts the start process down for a period of time. Trying to troubleshoot this without the insight to the immobilizer values was maddening. Now it's just a matter of figuring out what sequence of events causes the no crank condition. Leaving a laptop up and running for the time periods involved would be very difficult and might result in a broken window and a stolen laptop! Well done Autel!

The media could not be loaded. Just received the tool. I read through the user manual after receiving it. Seems many people don’t read the manual before making comments about the updating system, because I found it to be pretty simple to follow and goes exactly as described in the manual. Since many people don’t know how to download and update the free vehicle data software, I will share my procedure here, and hope it helps. Step 1: Download Diaglink PC suite from Autel official website. (no audio on the video, laptop has a mic problem, sorry) Step 2: Connect it with PC via USB cable and open the tool, press Updata button on the onscreen menu (the Autel language for ‘Update’). Step 3: Open Diaglink Update program from PC, it will automatically read the Serial No. and registration code. For me at least, it pulled the information automatically from the tool. If for some reason yours does not do the same, you could enter it manually. Step 4: The Update program will tell you this device is not registered, so click “Register”, input your Email address and click “Submit”, a verification code will be sent to your email address. Fill in the verification code and password, then click “Register”. FYI, I have since learned that your email address and the code can be used for the Autel forums and some of their registered user help center data. Step 5: The unit will now go to the Update Page. Here you can select one vehicle you want most. It provides One FREE make/manufacture of vehicles for downloading. I selected Honda, including Acura. If you want to download additional vehicles, you log in Autel website with the registered Autel ID and purchase from your account. Hope you find the video helpful. It was a labor of love. I am happy I could learn something about video editing and doing helpful reviews at the same time.

Received this scanner the other day, and was really excited to try it out when i got back from a business trip... After un-boxing the scanner I tried to plug it into my computer and noticed that the USB connection to the device was very loose and wiggly, "It was Broke to be blunt about it.." So since the USB connector on the device was broke i already knew this was going back for a replacement. However since I had it, I figured I would go ahead and download the install drivers and update the Scanner. I provided my credentials to the main web page and downloaded the update App to my Laptop. I navigated to the Update Icon on the scanner and selected it to update the unit. So after a few minutes i noticed the scanner still had the USB connection window up basically showing me that it was connected to USB. I then realized it had been setting there not doing a thing, so i re attempted to update the scanner, which this time a window popped up asking for me to install the micro SD card and to provide the registration number into a box that clearly was grayed out. So after 4 attempts I gave up. The scanner i received ended up having multiple defects with it. It had a loose USB connection that fell off when i removed the cable, the scanner did not see the Micro SD card it had pre installed in it, & the device would not update or communicate at all with none of the 3 PC computers i have. So as for now this device is not shaping up to be a good device. I am going to ship this back & see about having this replaced ASAP. If the next device works I will provide a updated review. Crossing my fingers and hoping that the next one I receive from this seller does not have a handful of issues like this one does
