I decided to upgrade from a old battery tester with exposed wires to this gem! Easy to use and quick readings. It is everything I need to keep cars moving through my shop. Old school wasn’t bad but new school works better with the new school cars. I would recommend to anyone running a shop who needs accuracy and efficiency. The after action report is amazing because it takes a lot of the sales pitch for a new battery out of the picture when you can simply just show them the results and let that sell the job for you. Easy way to upsell if a battery is on its way out the door.

Works well - used it to check the battery, alternator, and starter on my 2016 4Runner and 2022 Highlander. It didn’t go to 2022 on the model year input, so I just put 2020 Highlander. It doesn’t affect the scan results - as long as you know your battery type and Cold Cranking Amps Number, you’ll be good. Super easy to use - walks you through EVERY step. You do have to download a free app that Autel uses, and of course the app has upgrade scan options that cost money (like diagnostics), but the extra paid options are not necessary to do what this device was made for (battery, alternator, starter).

Paired with my Autel scan tool, it works great as a diagnostic tool. Have saved a few batteries as well as been able to diagnose charging problems in vehicles. Can check battery in or out of vehicle. Has functions to select various battery types and rated power vs actual, along with State of Charge and Health.

Tested the device against my car’s EFB battery, one day after I got a full report from the Subaru dealership and their Midtronics ($$$) device. Results were essentially the same, within expected small variance, for all three tests of the battery and the alternator. I previously used an Ancel that ended up not being the right test device for my vehicle with start/stop, EFB battery and Subaru’s management of the charging. The results from using the wrong test device (less sophisticated / less expensive) led me to believe the battery needed to be replaced soon and the alternator was a problem too. The only thing that was accurate with the cheaper Ancel device was the IR value. The dealership confirmed my alternator and battery were both in excellent health, and BT506 confirmed the same. Thus, I’ll keep the BT506 as a way to get more professional and reliable results to periodically monitor my car battery and alternator health. The BT506’s adaptive conductance, that less expensive devices don’t have, is worth the higher price tag.
