I purchased a 9000 watt inverter generator just over a year ago. The generator died 3 days after the factory warranty expired with only 12 hours on it. I rarely purchase the extended warranty but did so this time as it was an expensive purchase of an un-trusted brand. I immediately contacted Asurion to file a claim. Several days later, they informed me that they did not have a service network available to make the repairs to the generator, so they called to tell me they were issuing a check for the full amount of the purchase price. The check arrived 1 week later, no questioned asked. Asurion made the best of a bad situation, and I would not hesitate to use them again.

I bought the $170 warranty on my $2500 generator. Within 2 months the generator stopped working. This is the only power supply for my foodtruck, so BIG PROBLEM. Contacted Asurian to have it repaired. They told me that I would be contacted within the next couple of days by one of their contracted repair companies. The repair company did contact me on Tuesday and made an appointment for Friday “sometime during the day“. So I missed a day of work waiting for them to show up. At 5pm, they left me a voicemail telling me they weren’t coming today but would be there “sometime on Monday“. On Monday, I contacted them at 1 PM to find out when they would be arriving, left a message with employee who told me that the scheduler would get back to me as soon as she got back from lunch. Four days later still hadn’t heard from them. called Asurian, they told me that they would escalate my claim and someone would be at my house in the next 3 to 5 business days. Two weeks later, still no call from the repair company so I’ve called them two more times and left messages that were not returned. contacted Asurian again and was told they knew about the issue but I needed to wait for someone to contact me. At the one month point of no generator and no contact from the repair company or Asurian, they finally gave me a refund. I ended up contacting Asurian 5 times and the repair company 7 times to end up with a generator that doesn’t work. What a complete waste of my time.

Although the item I purchased with this protection plan came with a three-year warranty, I choose to purchase this protection also. If there are any loopholes in the manufacture warranty, between the two plans, I would think everything would be covered. Plus, I get the benefit of the fourth year with this plan. Thankfully, I have not needed to use either yet. The price was reasonable, also. It was definitely worth the peace of mind for such in an expensive piece of equipment. I recommend it to others for the same reasons. I’m giving 4 stars because: 1. I have not had any direct use with it yet. 2. It is not 4 additional years AFTER the manufacturer’s warranty ends.
