  • Nice Vise
Style: 6-12" Woodworking
This vice is a very nice suprise.... I bought it to add to a new workbench in my shop that I repurposed from and old oak desk. I figured I would get a cheap vise that Might work... NOPE this vice is a great addition...It is the only one offered here that has the bench dog lug at a low price... thats the main reason I chose it in the first place. I added 2 (hickory) clamp pads made from left over tounge and groove flooring and this vise is ready to go. I read a few reviews for some other offerings and I will say. If you like a cheap alternative this is the way to go. This vise has a good sturdy feel and is smooth operating. I especially like that is has rubber noise stops on the handle ends (a plus). Im not to fond of the "hammered finish" but it is of little concern at this price range.... All in All I would recommend this vise to anyone looking to add one and dosent want to pay out the wazoo for one that will do the same thing... I WILL be buying another one for the other side of my new bench also!!! ... show more

  • Don't think you can beat it for the price.
Style: 6-12" Woodworking
With all the comments saying that there was no dog I was a bit skeptical but for $16.48 even with no dog I'd consider it a great deal. When mine arrived it DID in fact have the dog and it was apparently a newer model (even though it still had the same 38-736 model number) as the box stated 6 1/2" instead of 6" and it measured out at 6 1/2" (the product details do say 6 1/2"). It took some cleaning to remove the oil on the rods. Even after removing the oil it still operated smoothly. If I ever have any issues I'd simply apply some stick wax instead of oil. The dog was a bit rusty and I'm not sure it will be useful anyway unless your bench thickness is only about 2 1/4" which is the measurement from the base mounting surface to the top of the vise. While they say it mounts to the face of your bench and there are 2 countersunk holes on the back face for this there are also 4 countersunk holes on the base mounting surface for attaching from below. As mentioned those mounting holes are not large (a 3/16" drill bit fits easily in them and has some wiggle room). The front face on mine had 2 threaded holes for attaching a jaw pad while the rear face had 2 non-threaded holes for this purpose. The metal handle for operating the vise has a nice feature of a thick rubber O-ring at each end that can be moved to keep the handle positioned wherever you want it. ... show more

  • ARF,ARF..why the complaints about a dog??
Style: 6-12" Woodworking
This wood working vice is really nice, smooth and holds tight. At $16.. ya thats what I got it for at Amazon warehouse. It was reported as used but only thing it had was its box had a small tornup corner other than that it was brand spanking new. It's easy to install and hammer tone grey paint is well done. It makes life really easy at your work bench. I faced mine with some ash or birch? and nice hard wood that i got out of an old cabinet. Check out the pics. This vice is great for people that want a quick easy solution for holding power for wood working. Now what's the big deal with a DOG..??? Dogs are easy to add to the vice. SO do nt let the lack of a doggy bother you! Add one if you want it's easy, piece of cake!! ... show more

  • Not Bad
Style: 6-12" Woodworking
I needed something other than a benchtop vise to regularly clamp two flat pieces of 4 - 4.5" long, 1.5" high and 3/4" thick wood together, covering the entire length of the wood. Literally that is the sole purpose of this purchase and the only thing it will be used for. That's why I didn't go with an expensive brand. This will work just fine for the task and the price point was pretty easy on the wallet. Not normally my choice but brands, but there's nothing wrong with this vise for my (singular) purpose. ... show more

  • Nice vise
Style: 6-12" Woodworking
For DIY, good value. Mine does have the extension bench dog. The finish (a paint-on metallic appearance) has a couple of holidays, but nothing terrible. The action works. Once I figured out the mounting pattern, it installed well and feels solid. The wing nut holding the bench dog riser is ok, doesn't get in the way. Overall I'm satisfied. My bench is a pocket door, so I had to reinforce the side to accept the vise, but that's not rocket science stuff. IF I use it enough to break it, I'll get a better one next time, but my main need was for occasional hold-fast. Looks like it will do the job. FU: 18 mos later, great purchase, very useful, have used numerous times, worth every penny and also worth returning until they get right (if they forget the dog!!). ... show more

  • Great little vice, especially for the price
Style: 6-12" Woodworking
2/3 the cost of a Yost clamp. yeah it's a little rougher on the casting but easy to install. I added some wood blocks on each face to protect the wood piece I'm working on. One negative, needed to remove the cotter pin at the end to take it apart for a proper install. The cotter snapped when i bent the legs back. Not a big deal, just replaced it but the manufacturer needs to realize you have to remove that cotter pin to take it apart so you can install a wood face and also to install in the side of a work bench. ... show more

Happy with the vice. Have only been using for a few months, but no complaints. 7/31/26 Update: I've had this vice for about a year now with moderate use. It's held up very well. I even made a few pads for gripping softer pieces. My tutorial can be found at the following link. [...]
