I purchased an Asurion 3-year plan for a UPS unit (surge protector and battery backup) which just stopped working after a year and a half. I called Asurion to file a claim. The person who assisted me knew basically how to proceed, but did not understand when I tried to explain that a UPS unit cannot be returned because of hazardous waste issues. Her English was not very good. She said she would look into it, but obviously never did. Instead I got a return label and was told that my refund would be applied once the item was returned. I gave her a few days to do her research, then called Asurion again. This time, the person understood perfectly that the unit could not be returned; that I planned to take it to Staples office store to be recycled. He immediately put through the refund and confirmed it while I was still on the phone. My take-away is that the Asurion protection was worth it but make sure you get a person who understands English proficiently and is thoroughtly trained with exceptions to typical claim procedure.

Always had my doubts about how well these warranties would play out. When my product died just after the manufacturer warranty expired, I reached out half heartedly, knowing for sure it would be a lost cause. Much to my surprise, Amazon and Asurion came through like champs. A short questionnaire, a run to the local UPS store and a gift certificate (refund) was delivered to my mailbox before the broken product could make its way back to the Amazon warehouse. Remarkable, true to their word, efficient and professional. I'm sold.
