This kit let us replace the front wheel bearings on my son's 2010 Honda Accord this weekend. The quality of the cups, plates, and forcing screw hardware is top notch. We had to use an impact wrench to remove the old bearings but the new bearings installed smoothly with just a long handled ratchet. The forcing screw lost a little of its gold coating but otherwise suffered no visible damage. Lube the threads with some thick grease before each use and spray some lube into the thrust bearing. I chose this kit because of the larger diameter forcing screw, the thrust bearing, and the nut which has more threads than competing kits. It's a little more expensive than lesser kits but well worth the extra cost. Coincidently the Torque Test Channel over on YouTube just compared bearing press kits and this one did quite well. ... show more

    • Amazing Quality and Effectiveness!
There was a review on either the Torque Test Channel or Project Farm on these, and this one came out on top. It's ALL made from Grade 5 or better steel, even the sleeves, and holds up to abuse. I've used it to remove and install two wheel bearings so far, and it works perfect. The included bearing gives it a lot more 'beans'. I also use Extreme Pressure Lube on the threads. To remove the hub... If using a slide hammer, make sure it's at least 10lbs. The 5lb isn't going to cut it. There are also other hub removal tools that work well. For doing bearings, this set is GREAT. As a bonus, since the knuckle doesn't need removed from the strut, no alignment is generally needed to be done. On some cars where the lower ball joint is hard to remove from the knuckle, go ahead and buy a new one, as if you need to 'pickle fork' it, the boot will get damaged. Of course, this would need done if removing the knuckle to do the bearing job on a traditional press, anyway. The tie rod remains attached while using this tool, so you don't need to worry about damaging that. Steps to use: Remove wheel, caliper and rotor. Remove CV Axle Nut. Remove Hub with big slide hammer or other tool. Remove Lower Ball Joint. Pull CV Axle from Knuckle, but leave in transmission. Remove Snap Ring from bearing. Use tool to remove bearing. Use tool to install bearing. Install Snap Ring Either use new hub, or use a torch, etc to remove the race from the old hub. Use tool to install hub into bearing. Finish re-assembly ... show more

This is a very high quality kit. The pressures generated by this process, especially along the thread profile are extreme so the included thrust bearing and zinc-plating that sets this apart from the other kits is awesome and allows this kit to perform higher than it’s competitors. I used a 1/2” Earthquake XT (700 lbs/ft torque) impact, on the second setting, with Permatex Anti-Seize #81343 applied to the drive screw threads to press in a front drivers side wheel bearing in my 2009 Acura TL and it had no issues at all. It couldn’t have gone any smoother. I can’t say for certain, but speaking in a general mechanical properties sense, the reduced friction the zinc-plate finish unique to this kit coupled with a good anti-seize would suggest the torque requirement to press the bearing is lower which means the impact shouldn’t need to be as strong as it would need to be when using a kit from another manufacturer. Tip: Use a deep-well socket to drive the nut. Chances are the bearing width you are pressing is short and it may cause the stud to push off a standard socket off of the nut before it fully seats within the bore. If this happens, the socket is only engaged on the top 1/16” - 1/8” of the nut at may cause it to roll the edges damaging the nut. Hope this helps. ... show more

I replaced my rear bearings on my Crossfire SRT6 without any problems using this press kit. It made it really easy and fast to press the bearings out and back in.     • The Lowest Price Quality Kit Available
This is exactly as the Torque Test Channel describes. The roller bearing is smooth. The plates are heavy & actually zinc plated. The case is marginally better than most heavy tool kits from Amazon. The included manual has a chart specifying exactly which kit parts are used for specific vehicles. The 3 cars I'm working on are on it. This costs >60% above the average Amazon wheel bearing kit (they're ~60 bucks). I usually get cheaper tools to learn on & upgrade as necessary. My experience with removing bushings from control arms has shown me how much strength & power is required to press rusty things out of steel, as well as the need for as many sizes as I can get. I skipped straight to this upgraded kit as I felt the stronger plates & components are just right for my needs. I haven't seen the Astro Tools 78825 non-heavy duty version, but I don't understand why anyone would get it. If it's to save money there are plenty of other cheaper kits around. Whether it's for a one-off project or daily use, you don't want to get stuck on a press job. Impact power tools are getting waaay more powerful and will destroy pot metal type plates & threaded rods/bolts/nuts. I have not used this yet. I have a 20T press and other ball joint/bushing press kits to mix & match with. Stay tuned for an update on how this works out on a BMW E46, E90, and Toyota minivan. ... show more

Worked great for installing bearings. Be sure to grease the threaded rod well. I also put the bearings in the freezer to make installation easier
