It is not necessarily as good as "Company 23 tool 1" to remove the pinch joint ball joint which is rusted in place. And slightly a knockoff maybe. But it works; just arrived today - opened up the package; threaded to tool onto my not removed ball joint - used an impact driver - and less than 30 seconds later - ball joint is removed! Fantastic. Way less money than previous mentioned above. Some people in reviews mention the 'pin' falling out - well drive it back in. Another person mentioned that the 'thread adapter' was not included - so they were out of luck with a slide hammer... Maybe Astro messed up - but the 'thread adapter' is part of the tool. It is not optional or an accessory. The thread 'adapter' screws onto the end of your ball joint; and the other end of the small 'adapter' has 5/8-18 threads - which ARE the threads of the large Bolt included with the tool; and also the thread of a typical Slide Hammer. So, if you have the steering knuckle OFF; and you don't have an impact wrench - but DO have a slide hammer - you could attach the slide hammer and remove the stuck ball joint. It is a simple tool, that should last a long time. and if the threads of the large bolt get messed up - pick up another large 5/8-18 bolt from your local hardware store. I am very impressed and happy with this tool. Glad a blog discussing how to remove the stuck ball joint mentioned Company 23 - because I had no idea this type of tool existed. I have a bunch of ball joint presses; and had been racking my noggin on how to maybe use one of them... but hadn't seen a way. If you work on Subaru's get this tool - or the slightly different - but US made Company 23... I went with this - because of the price; and it is not bad and I will be using it again tomorrow and have it for many more years. Can't really see something going wrong with it - but it is made of Steel; and I know how to weld... but don't think it is going to break. 1 year warranty. Nothing wrong with the tool. After using it a couple of times - the large WASHER which the Nut tightens against - needs to be replaced. I am going to purchase a thicker washer. But that will be nut much; and readily available from any Hardware Store.

The quality is really good! It made pulling the ball joint off of a 2012 Subaru Legacy real easy. It is worth every penny!

The media could not be loaded. Purchased to remove the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle on a rusted Subaru Outback with 122K miles of hard driving in the rust belt. This tool worked soo well, the machine shop technician at NAPA ordered one for himself! Screws onto the threads of your ball joint. Once threaded on, turn the bolt clockwise. As the bolt moves down the mechanism moves up and pulls the stubborn, rusted old ball joint out of the knuckle. Much easier than heating with a torch! Heavy duty, seems well made, and a must have for any dyi Subaru owners tool box, for professional mechanics, and apparently for any machine shop that removes Subaru lower ball joints. Glad I purchased it and will definitely be in my tool box for my 4 children for years to come.

I am a weekend, jack-stand mechanic living in the rust belt. Ball joints on northern Subie's can be an absolute B*t*h to get removed. I've done several sets, and they can take all day to get changed out. Part of the challenge, of course, is getting the old ball joint extracted from the spindle. I bought this tool, and literally extracted each ball joint in less than 15 seconds once I pulled the trigger on the impact wrench. To say this tool is worth every penny is a gross understatement. If you are doing this job by yourself, do not think twice about obtaining this tool! One tip on the pinch bolts. (The other PIA on this job...) Do not rush them. Soak them with PB blaster several times over a couple day period before you try to remove them. When the moment finally comes, do NOT try and loosen them with a long breaker bar. Two things will happen- 1) the head of the bolt will snap off, and 2) the garage will instantly be filled with words you don't want your kids to hear Instead- gently (and I mean GENTLY) use an impact wrench at its lowest possible setting. Forward/ backward/ forward/ backward very slowly- it may take several minutes of this. Again, DO NOT RUSH THIS. Eventually, you will see a very small, minute rotation, followed by a little bit more rotation, and finally it will loosen up and decide it wants to back out. The forward/ backward rotation is slowly breaking free all the rust on the threads. I have yet to break a pinch bolt doing this method, but it is not fast. Patience is absolutely the key, both in soaking them diligently for a couple days and not using too much force when you do try to remove them. Run a wire wheel inside the spindle to clean all the schmutz out of it, and then tap the new ball joint home with a brass hammer- the brass wont damage the threads on the new ball joint. Good luck!
