Using my Rigid shop-vac for the last two years and constantly having to lug that monster up and down steps to vacuum out the pellet stove was getting old. We saw this and thought it would be the perfect solution to save space and be able to hide it away in a closet when not in use. So far so good! Has great suction power and the size really is way more convenient than a huge shop-vac. The ash is well contained and after needed to be dumped after 3 uses. The capacity isn’t as large as the shop-vac, but that’s the price we pay for the convenience, I’ll take it! The wheels on the unit and the attachments all storing easily on the base are nice touches that also make this a great upgrade. The motor seems strong, and we’re hoping this last as it’s been a nice upgrade for cleaning out our pellet stove!

We have a wood burning stove in our house and I always put off cleaning it out because it makes a mess. This vacuum is specifically meant for that scenario. It has a metal base container, three wheels that clip onto the base rim of the container, and a few hose attachments. I understand other people's concerns about the hose and attachments being plastic and the filters being paper. But I don't clean my fireplace right after a fire, more like days or weeks. Not sure who is cleaning it while there are still hot embers... I immediately used this to clean our fireplace that has been full of ash since last winter. I did run into an issue where I lost suction, I thought it overheated because it was quite hot, however, it was just a clogged hose and was easily fixed. I was able to completely clean the full fireplace with one bucket load after troubleshooting that clog. The top vacuum mechanism does get hot after using it, I am a little worried about longevity there. Otherwise this is a nice and compact but powerful suction tool that makes cleaning the fireplace much easier.

We pretty much appreciate most of the items we review, even when they are of lower quality then what we expect. This Vanpore ash vacuum is one of very few one-star reviews we have presented. The concept is good: A metal vacuum can with metal lined hose and fire-resistant filters to allow safe cleaning of wood and pellet stoves, wood burning fireplaces and fire pits. We take issue with multiple pieces of this vac. There is a fabric filter that is suspended at the top of the canister intended to separate the HEPA filter from the ash and larger particles. This filter is flexible fabric as opposed to a woven metal mesh, thus if inadvertently ingesting a hot coal or ember, the fabric can combust. There is no fireproof membrane between the incoming suction hose nor the contents of the metal drum and this fabric. In fact, the incoming debris will deflect off of this fabric before depositing into the drum. Next, the HEPA filter is pretty small and the construction is such that there is a metal plate binding the bottom of the HEPA filter, but otherwise, the filter is again, unprotected from the potential of contact with hot embers should the fabric pre filter burn through. BTW, HEPA is a paper filter. Our next concern is the actual vacuum tubes. There are two longer tubes that are slip fit together and onto the flexible hose. These wands are made of plastic. These very thin tubes did not inspire us as to their durability nor their ability to withstand contact with embers. There is a 3rd tube made of thin aluminum that is intended to fit between the plastic tubes and the plastic crevice or floor tools. This aluminum tube is actually slightly smaller than the diameter of the plastic wands. We were able to insert the metal tube into the plastic wand and watch it slide completely through and onto the floor. If actually used in vacuum, it would be sucked into the canister. Our entire vacuum suffered shipping damage due to a lack of any protective packaging. The drum had a large dent in the side, the upper lip was deformed from impact as well as the lid. One of the wands was also deformed from impact. The placement of the 3 casters, if placed where the stickers instruct one to attach were not evenly spaced. Thankfully, once snapped into place, the casters can be slid into position to properly support the canister evenly (6-1/2" between each). The HEPA filter is a friction fit onto the motor intake. There is no mechanical connection to secure the filter, so if the unit is handled roughly or the filter collar is loose, it will fall off with vibration. The use of plastic within the suction tube area causes us concern as does the use of fabric and paper filter elements. This is an ash vac, so there is a real potential for hot embers to be isolated within the ash pile. A wind-driven pile of embers will reignite, even if innocently sucked up into an ash vac. These concerns are enough to give pause but our biggest complaint follows. Once the vacuum was assembled, we plugged it into the wall outlet to test. Upon switching on, the vac ran for about 5 seconds before the electric motor started throwing sparks out of the top of the unit. Fortunately, the plug was within reach, so we were able to unplug it quickly and prevent a fire. The smoldering vac was quickly taken outside, our house reeking of burned carbon and plastic. Understandably, anyone with a wood-burning appliance should know to allow enough time for the embers to go out before attempting to vacuum them clean. However, these types of vacs are designed knowing the potential exists for still-hot ash and embers during cleaning. If intended as a shop vac, this product would perform just fine. In fact, we had no intention of sucking up ash with it. Instead, it was going to serve as a garage vac for the vehicles. However, due to the damage as it arrived and the faulty motor, we have rendered a not-so-great review.

I'm finally going to be free of a paint brush to clean out the stove! It's got lots of options for how I suck the ash out of the stove. It's small enough to tuck away next to the pellet stove and not take up a lot of room. It wheels easily to dump and doesn't blow out dust or ash. Once it's sucked in, it stays in! This will suck up ash from outside the pellet stove. This little canister ash vacuum has power! This has the double filter on it and it works as claimed. The package arrived well packed and even though I heard loose pieces in the box, it was still nice and no dings on it! Vanpore has made a useful and reliable vacuum that really works! 10 out of 10 from us!

This is a really good working vacuum for ashes. Works really well, is pretty quite and has a lot of power. The metal vacuum and all the attachments are great. Makes it so you can vacuum ashes that are still warm and not ruin the vacuum. Great vacuum at a great price in my opinion. Great filter system , very low dust, really impressed with it.
