I’m not a hairdresser so take this review knowing I am not trained. First I loved it. I have natural really dark hair with streaks as well as large patches of white gray. I tried the pink color all over except on the front grey where I just did the tips. I wore gloves and I made every effort to keep it away from my scalp and skin. The product seems more like a stain than a dye to me. So I didn’t want to stain my skin. I put it in two days in a row to get a good color. Every shower rinse or wash it has gotten a little lighter. After a week and a half it is very pale. Definitely not permanent and barely semi permanent. Maybe if my hair was chemically stripped it would permeate and stay longer. But the fun of the pop color for me is the ability to change my mind and switch it up. To keep it vibrant I just keep doing it every couple days. But then my haircut is a pixie. It will rub off on your pillowcase, hat, scrunchy, husbands white shirt! If freshly done and you go swimming, know that when you get out the color may just run down your back. If you want purple stain for your hair and you want purple, and I mean purple, this is absolutely the one to get! I tried this for the first time and was like oh my wow!! I wasn't expecting it to be that purple honestly ! I've tried several other brands and this by far is the most noticeable here I am purple that I've ever tried (I love purple in my hair it just never stays with dieing it and I'm not tryin to fry my hair more then it is so a safer alternative is the stain) it does stay bold and purple if you maintain it every week or you can use it every wash to keep the up most purple possible. The color is just beautiful and bold! If you stick to one color for a long time, this is the perfect dye. If you change colors often, you probably don’t want to use it. It does “stain” your hair pretty strong, which if you are like me and stick to just one color, after 3-4 times of touching up the purple, I will only have to redo it once every few months because it has stained my hair so purple now. I don’t know how it reacts with bleaching because I haven’t done that yet, I only bleached before and now deposit only with this dye when it fades enough I want to freshen up the color. As a busy mom and student this has made having purple hair a breeze for me! Love it and highly recommend IF you stay with one color for a long time! ... show more

Arctic Fox was recommended by my sister who dyes her hair frequently and it’s always turned out perfectly. So I got the the Transylvania and used some Lime crime green we had left. I love how it’s turned out and while I did have a lot of bleeding afterwards on my old pillow, it was old and that was why I used it cause it was expected. Aftet 2 months, the green lime crime has faded more than the Transylvania black. Also a lot of people mentioned that when it fades it fades blue and purple, which it’s a blue based black so I would expect that, mine so far has not done that. And honestly I don’t know if I’ll be upset if it eventually does. I’ve always wanted some kind of Galaxy/oil slick hair color so if it washes out to that I’m totally ok. Side note, if you don’t know, if you have a blue black and mix it with orange it will cancel out the blue. ... show more

Love the scent and color. Didn’t bleach the hair and it still is very vibrant, it does stain but that’s to be expected. I like that there’s not a bunch of really harsh chemicals in it and you can breathe with it on your head. The hair is always so shiny and soft after using. Bought for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas. She was so excited when she unwrapped it, I’ve used this product with different colors before for her. I love that it slowly fades over time but it still looks wonderful in transition. She gave it a 10/10 and is beyond obsessed with how good it looks and for everyone at school to see and compliment her. 😂💝 ... show more

    • Not as good as when it was Purple Rain

After trying a handful of other brands purple I had found this one had the best results. Color, staying power, easy on skin, no staining, little to no run off/transfer of color to other objects. So according to my purchase history I have been using this color (ish, see below) for 5+ years and they have made some not amazing changes over the years. So It started out as Purple Rain which was an amazing color. A very deep purple that not only stayed purple long, it didn’t bleed too bad and washed off non hair surfaces pretty easily. It also would fade to a nice magenta after a while. So a year or so ago they changed the formula and the name to “Purple AF” which honestly is much less purple. Not only is it a purple on the pinker side it fades to pinkish not magenta much quicker than it used to. I figured they use less blue now because generally blue on its own washes out a lot faster. But there is a much higher red/pink concentration here than I would like. This new formula is much less skin/or accidentally eye friendly. It will itch on the skin/scalp if left on for the same amount of time as the old formula and sometimes days after if you miss a bit on your scalp. If you get it in the eyes they will burn AF (maybe that's where they were going with the AF). I was hoping they would change back or maybe it was a bad batch but over a dozen bottles (year and half) later and it is still not as purple and not as skin friendly as it used to be. I used to be a dye ( ;) pun intended) hard Arctic Fox fan but I have to say now I am starting to try some other brands in hopes they are what this used to be. ... show more

I am new to dying my hair and this stuff has been the easiest to work with and best results. Friends and family are surprised when i say i dyed my hair myself! My hair is untreated dark brown with a natural fade from sun damage that is working perfectly for a great bright red at the tips fading to my natural color by the roots. One round of dye is super vibrant for one week, a duller red for the second, and mostly faded/washed-out by the end of the third for me. Every shower levees a bit of dye on my towel but it’s pretty minimal after the first wash. Once i’ve worked through the red i’m thinking of a fun purple next! ... show more
