  • Perspective from water treatment professional
Size: 32,000 Grains
I've been in water treatment for 15 years. Six years of that has been spent in industrial water treatment with RO systems up to 1600gpm, pretreatment by softeners the size of pick up trucks. Various chemical injections and multimedia filtration. Primarily in the oil, gas and power plant industries. This system is very small in comparison but the science and process is the same. My house hold water treatment system is as follows: city water (surface water)-meltblown cartridge-carbon block-carbon block- softener (Aquasure 32000 grain)- drinking water RO. Please let me elaborate on a few things to make sure you are setup for success. Install a chlorine removal system prior to the softener. This will extend the life of your resin. Any whole house carbon filter will be sufficient. Stay below 2ppm chlorine. Install a sediment catching filter (string wound or melt blown). This will will likely help with differental pressure on softener, cannot confirm. However, will contribute to a better quality water overall. Peform hardness test prior to purchase for proper sizing. This is a 32000 grain softener. It has the potential to remove 32000 grains of hardness causing minerals (calcium, magnesium). My feed water is 5grains per gallon prior to my softener. If I am to utilize 90% of this resin prior to a Regen, I would be able to soften 5760 gallons of water before I should Regen. 10% is reserved to prevent hard water/resin exhaustion and to allow time for time/throughout based Regen to kick in at 2am. This leads me to probably the second most important thing to consider. The control head is programmed to Regen at 1000 gallons. This is extremely conservative and likely based on a feed hardness around 25-30 gpg. The more you Regen, the shorter lifespan of the resin. This could mean shorter lifespan of the softener if you do not have the resources to cost effectively replace the resin. Please, please, whether you have to send off a sample of your water to a lab or buy a cheap test kit, know your feed water hardness. I changed mine to 5760 gallons before a Regen is triggered. I am going to Regen 6 times less than programmed setpoint. Using less salt and increaing the lifespan span of my resin. Loading less salt. Buying less salt. Win win win. We have a family of four in my home. After reviewing our summer water usage, of 7.5-10 thousand gallons. You can see I am going to Regen my resin 1.7 times month while supervising my softener differential pressure. At stock setpoint I would Regen 10 times at max usage. Big difference. Purchasing a test kit is best as this will allow you to monitor your feed hardness by season. Sometimes, water companies will change feed sources or change their treatment regimen or chemicals. Changing your water profile. There are many variables to consider. Onto this softener. It's a fleck style head with somewhat fleck style controls. Quality is decent for a residential unit. The digital controls are convoluted and will require frequent reference to the user manual. However, the overall set up and operation is relatively simple. Upon install, I had 0 problems. No leaks and a successful Regen. After a 10 minute flush, I had 1 ppm hardness at my faucet. Down from 85.5ppm (5 grains per gallon) before softener. Plan to provide shelter for this softener as it should not be installed exposed to sun and rain. Keep in mind that if you install it in doors, which I considered, and there is a catastrophic failure causing a leak, you will flood your home if draining for such an event isn't considered. I will update this review with relevant pros and cons after more usage. Overall, this system gets the job done. Update 10/18/23- My feed water hardness changed to 8gpg. Leading to hard water before regeneration. After adjusting my gallonage setpoint, I will be fine. Best practice is to leave it this way for the near future and reassess. We have gone through drought conditions, temperature changes and then a high amount of rain. This can have affects on the surface water source and the treatment plant operations. The only issues I have with this softener so far are: -lost totalizer (counted) gallons if I enter the menu. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer. -lost totalizer gallons during a power outage. This will lead to hard water as the count resets. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer. -clock isn't accurate. I had to abandon time/throughput based regeneration and move to thought (totalizer gallons) only. This needs to be fixed by the manufacturer. If you are experiencing hard water issues before regeneration occurs, check your feed water hardness and ensure your brine tank is running empty during regeneration step brine draw. ... show more

I installed this softener about 2 months ago. It went in easily after taking two people to get it in place. The instructions were clear and set up was straight forward. The water tastes great!

  • Excellent value and easy to install.
Size: 48,000 Grains
The media could not be loaded. I finally got around to installing a water softener after living in this house for three years. We have very hard water according to the test strips and we were getting tired of the dry itchy skin along with calcium and/or magnesium deposits all over the fixtures. After many hours of research, I chose this Aquasure water softener and also bought some tools and parts. I got the install done in just a few hours. I took my time and triple checked my work to make sure I didn't make a mistake. AquaSure includes a small packet of silicone grease with the unit. So don't waste time or money buying a tube of silicone grease. I picked up at tube at a hardware store since I didn't see anyone else mention this detail in the reviews. Here are the other tools I purchased for my install in a garage equipped with a copper pipe water softener loop and a capped off ABS drain pipe. 1. ABS / PVC cutter 2. copper pipe close quarters cutter 3. SharkBite fittings 4. silicone tape (to prevent the SharkBite fittings from spinning) 5. SharkBite pipe deburring & depth insertion marking tool 6. pencil style copper pipe deburring tool (for inside of pipe) 7. Two 24" flex connector hoses 8. Hard water test strips 9. ABS p-trap with 24" stand pipe 10. ABS / PVC Cement & Primer 10. Govee water leak detectors & WiFi hub Here are some tips I learned while assembling and installing the unit. 1. Make sure the upper basket is securely attached to the control valve. It should turn almost a full 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction to be fully seated. To test that the basket is securely attached, spin on the control head in the clockwise direction and then immediately spin it off in the counterclockwise direction to remove it. If you didn't fully seat the basket, it will pop off and remain attached to the riser tube. 2. After you assemble your p-trap and stand pipe, test the drain by pouring down a gallon of water. It would be better to discover that their is a problem with the drain before you start running the water softener's first regeneration cycle. 3. If you use SharkBite fittings, wrap some silicone self fusing tape around the pipe and fitting to keep them from spinning or shifting. This will help make sure the rubber o-ring in the SharkBite remains undisturbed and leak free for many years. 4. If you have an ABS drain pipe (usually black), you only need to use cement. Don't use primer on ABS. If you have a PVC drain pipe (usually white), use both primer and cement. 5. Get some Govee water leak detectors so you can be alerted to leaks and sleep peacefully at night. I now have a total of 12 water leak detectors and two WiFi hubs. Every source of water in my home has a water leak detector just below it. I change the two AA batteries in each detector once a year. When there was a small water leak behind the washing machine last year, the loud alarm went off and both of our phones started vibrating and beeping to let us know. ... show more

  • Read instructions carefully and completely
Size: 48,000 Grains
So you know the plumbing copper and fittings run about $200 to put all this in place. I had a plumber install it and it took about 4 hours; however, that included a whole house filter which you can piped in but without the canister. I did plumb it with a bypass which you should also do. The software on the head unit desperately needs an update, it is 2024 and I would expect an App on my phone and be able to manage the setting with a more simple interface. Pay attentention to the System Startup as the process is not well written. They want you to have the "out" valve closed on the unit ( Step 5) - should have been written in Step 1. Bleading the system also requires some work and it takes about 1-2 hours to complete the process. All in all a successful project but it takes some plumbing skills- especially since I added the pre-filter which was the 20" variety. Why- because I don't want to change out the filter every 3 months. I have soft water again - the unit works as described and with the filter - he water quality improved dramatically- yes we can drink tap water without the bad taste. I recommend it. ... show more

In this day and age it is very unusual to find product supported like Aquasure provides! They are very responsive and helpful when contacted. I highly recommend the product just based on the support staff. I just installed and it seems to be working fine. Update.... I tested the hardness of my water.... without the softener it was at the top of the charts hard, with the softener it is at the bottom of the charts hard. It is obviously working great!! ... show more
