The aerator was purchased for a small pond--about the size if a large planter--that went in my front patio, i.e., outdoor use. We intended to keep a few small fishes so giving them a good air supply was important. This was the smallest and cheapest thing I could find. To my surprise, it is relatively quiet. It has been running 24/7 for about 3 months and still going strong. It is not the quietest air pump, but for this price I was not expecting it to be. I mainly use it outside so not a problem for me. The unit runs at full power at all times. As mentioned in past reviews with less than 5 stars, the adjustment knob is just for show because it does not limit air flow. The force of the unit seems to be bearable for my 30 gallon tank. Yet, I would like to decrease the intensity because there is vibration noise that is naturally produced with such high work rate. It’s ok. It didn’t come with directions. I wish it came with some troubleshooting advice. The tubing is extremely cheap… I have one bubble stone in my hermit crabs salt water tank, and one stone in their fresh water tank…. One stone bubbles come out extremely more powerful, and the other side is weak and only gives a couple bubbles…. Maybe if I buy better tubing it may help… but the knob is worthless. It doesn’t control anything at all… it turns, but I doesn’t do anything for the bubble/air speed… I’m going to have my husband try to change the tubing, to see if that makes it better… before I send it back ... show more

It works decently. Both airways seem to pump the same amount of air. The only time I have experienced a noise issue was when I was only using one of the airways. I had the other one closed off with a plastic valve. Almost as though it was building up pressure so it rattled pretty loudly. When I opened the side I closed, the noise stopped completely.
