I want to write this review because this produce is doing a fantastic job in my reed aquarium. I have this installed on my intake for my hang on the back protein skimmer while I am fighting a lot of algae. No algae makes it past these guys - these are like algae blocking juggernauts. Get them out of the package, rinse them off well, they're durable and easy to use. I have nothing buy satisfaction with this product. When they clog, remove it and reinstall one that was in use previously that you rinsed the algae out of and cleaned thoroughly and you're good to go for as long as it takes to clog it again. These little sponges ended up being exactly what I needed. I was just trying to keep baby guppies and shrimp from getting sucked into my canister filter, and this did the trick without messing with the flow too much. It slid right over the intake — no trimming or forcing it on — and it fits snug enough to stay put without zip ties or anything. The sponge itself is a good balance: fine enough to keep the small stuff out, but not so dense that it slows down water flow or clogs every few days. I’ve already seen my shrimp hanging around on it picking off bits, and the fry seem to like the calmer flow near it too. Cleaning it is pretty easy — I just give it a squeeze in tank water during water changes and it’s good as new. Still looks solid after a few rinses. What I liked: - Perfect fit, no cutting or fiddling - Actually works for small shrimp and fry - Doesn’t mess with the filter flow - Rinses out easily and holds up well Nothing fancy, but it solves the problem without hassle. Fits a majority of my filter intakes from 10-70 gallon filters. They come vacuum sealed so you have to soak them before you install them. They are good at keeping large particles from getting into your filter media. You can also zip tie one to some tubing when doing large water changes if you don't want too much suction/if your afraid of sucking up small fish. ... show more

Bought these to cover my TopFin 30g HOB Powerfilter to help keep my neocaridina shrimp from being sucked up. It does lower the flow rate a little but otherwise filter still works fantastic, and my shrimp no longer can get accidentally sucked up! Fairly easy to clean off any trapped debris as well, just gently shake in the tank or rinse. My only complaint is the sizing is off. I bought the suggested size for my filter intake, even measured to be safe, and as you can see in my photo it was far too short and did not cover everything so I had to splice 2 together, so not the greatest fit and was a bit frustrating. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. I suggest sizing up a size or two from what you think you need. Other than that, no complaints! ... show more

I got these to to put over the intake of my Topfin Silenstream filter. It's the 5-10gallon one and it fits great. It's small enough that it doesn't slip off but still easy to put on. I didn't have any problems with it getting dunked up too fast and I went 2 weeks without rinsing it multiple times with no problem. I accidentally order 2packs so I cut some in half to baffle to outflow and they also worked great there. They seem durable and have lasted being squeezed many times. ... show more
