Aqua-Tech® Ultra Quiet Power Filter is your answer to keeping aquarium water pristine without the fuss. Our complete 3-stage filtration system provides coarse floss to remove large particles from aquarium water; carbon filtration to remove odors, discoloration and impurities; and Bio-Foam® biological filtration to remove toxic ammonia and nitrites on contact. To ensure crystal- clear aquarium water, change the filter cartridge once a month, as carbon deactivates with use. I’ve used this particular aquarium filter for years and when it stopped working, I bought another to replace it. This next one didn’t last very long at all. Thinking I had just received a ‘lemon’, I ordered another. Again, it worked great at first, but only worked for a couple of months before the water flow was almost nonexistent. I followed the instructions and cleaned the impeller. Still, nothing. I decided that I had to be missing something so I began examining the impeller housing a little more closely. I found that not only does the impeller area collect impurities, but the tube area above the impeller does also. There are slits in the plastic tube above the impeller housing where things can collect and block the flow of water. After removing this blockage, the filter worked like new! So, the problem really isn’t with the filter. The problem is that the instructions only go so far as to tell you to clean the impeller, but not the area above it. As a side note…I use polyester fiberfill in a small corner filter and it was those tiny fibers that I found to be wrapped up in the impeller and also blocking the slits. Not typically the type to leave a review but I just have to talk about this filter for a second. It is quite large. Takes up an entire end piece of my 10G tank. My previous Aqua filter was not as robust. 3 stage filtration. I also added filter floss and I run sponge filters in my tanks. It primes itself - big plus. The flow is not adjustable - however it’s PERFECT for 10G. It comes out strong and moves water from end to end. I have a 20G community tank with a Fluval AC3 with added media and to be honest I like this Aqua-Tech more. For two reasons - it’s damn near silent. And for its size that’s impressive. All I hear is the water flow. Reason two is its filtration. I know these units come down to how you take care of them and what you put in them. But for a right out of the box filter, it cleared the tank quicker and more efficiently than the Fluval. I can’t speak for longevity as I just got it a few days ago. However, this seems to be a fantastic buy for the money. I’ve spent a lot more on other filters that I like less. ... show more

This was a nice filter. the water sound was very relaxing and It was keeping the water very clean for my fish. The only thing that annoyed me was that every time one of my fish would nibble the suction or it would move it would simply stop working. I didn't mind and would just fix it But one day out of nowhere it just stopped working. I had to call the manufacturer and they asked me to speak to amazon and I was issued a full refund. I don't think I'm going to purchase it again in the future because of how easily it stopped working. ... show more

This is the second 30-60 gal Aqua Tech filter that I have purchased. It is identical to the first one that lasted 3 years. That pump still worked but the outside housing developed a leak that I could not find and fix. I suppose a very small crack, but a crack none-the-less. I am not sure why it gets negative reviews on quietness. This one cannot even be heard even when standing beside of it. Yes, there is a slight splashing noice when the filtered water hits the top of the tank water, but that is normal. If one doesn't like splashing noice, then raise the level of the tank water. Reviewers are correct in stating it is too big for a 10--20 gallon tank. I am wondering if they did not see on the box that shows it is for a 30-60 tank. Perhaps the reviews for the smaller filters got mixed up with this one. The only negative that I have, and it doesn't effect the rating, is that it comes with two very inferior filters. But I guess those two are better than nothing when one first uses it. Much better are the EZ-Change Cartridge #3. The queston is: "would you buy it again?" I did. ... show more

    • Filter broke after 2 months and killed all my fish

0 stars. I’ve never been this disappointed or upset with a product. This filter failed and appeared to backflush unfiltered water into my tank, which caused a severe nitrite spike and killed all 18 of my fish—over $350 in losses. Beyond the financial loss, I’m heartbroken. These weren’t just fish; they were part of our home. My children are devastated, and watching the fish struggle and die while I tried everything to save them was incredibly distressing. In the process of attempting emergency interventions, I also had to disturb and uproot several plants, putting the entire aquarium ecosystem under even more stress. What makes this worse is that I later found another review with a video showing the same issue. I truly wish I had taken that as a warning. I purchased this filter in February. A product like this should not fail in such a catastrophic way after such a short time. This experience has been devastating and completely unacceptable. I strongly urge anyone considering this filter to look elsewhere. ... show more

    • It does work but very Noisy!
Size: 30 to 60 Gallon
This is a review for Aqua-Tech Power 30-60 Aquarium Filter pump, which can treat up-to 30 to 60-Gallon Aquariums, I used this on a 55 gallon tank which I have been having since year 2000. The original Aquarium Filter pump that came along with my old 55 Gallon tank finally could not be fixed by me anymore as the impeller went kaput as it spun itself to it's own death. I am actually amazed how long that old Aqua-Tech unit lasted .. Wow! 20+ years.. of non-stop running (Almost barring few California's PG&E Power outages) BTW, the shaft that holds the impeller finally developed few deep groove marks on it's circumference and thus impeller developed a strange annoying rattling noise which no matter what I did (Yeah even attempted the Vaseline trick AKA (Petroleum Jelly) To Lubricate the shaft) but it wouldn't stop rattling... Anyways, I thought okay, it was an "Aqua-Tech" product and moreover, I have few 6 pack boxes of Aqua-Tech EZ-Change Aquarium Filter Cartridge #3 that I have with me which I hate going to waste thus selected this model as it still uses the same Aqua-Tech EZ-Change cartridge's. Replacement of the Filter pump assembly was seamless. The dimensions are the same.. fitted perfectly in the slot that the old pump used to hang behind the Aquarium. The A/C power cord length also was more or less same making the replacement process 100% compatible to my fish tank. On closer inspection, I find that surprisingly, It actually uses same dimensions of piping for pumping water out and filtering inside the pump. It does come with additional "Advanced 3 step filtration" which essentially adds a new "RED COLOR" plastic filter layer that is installed "AFTER" Filter Cartridge #3 layer the calling it "The Bio-Tech Biological Grid" (Love how these marketing names are made up), Anyways, those two red color filters never needs replacing. ensures elimination of toxic ammonia and nitrites and as per the specs it has a unique design that will not clog (which essentially means it has holes) which also means I will have to clean those holes in the future.. Okay.. with all that being said, why three stars? - NOISE.. this is much more noisy compared to the 20 year old model from the same company that it replaced. I am amazed that with all that innovations in past 20 years in the field of science and technology the Aquarium Filter pump was ignored? - No.. hopefully not.. as I do not think the noise level in the new unit is acceptable.. I have accepted the fact that things are not as it used to be and the manufacturers have gone backwards trying to cut costs making units cheaper to produce and thus the new norm. Bottom-line: It does work... (Hence the three stars!) I have about few boxes of Aqua-Tech EZ-Change Aquarium Filter Cartridge #3 still left with me.. which I will use up and then consider switching to a totally different pump design if the current noise levels do not settle down by then.. or attempt to repair the 20 year old Aqua-Tech Power 30-60 Aquarium Filter pump which was clearly much better than this. ... show more
