After upgrading to the Aqara Doorbell Camera G400, I can confidently say this is a feature-packed step up from a traditional doorbell—especially if you’re invested in a smart home ecosystem like Apple HomeKit. The initial setup wasn’t completely plug-and-play. After scanning the QR code, the device wouldn’t link in the Aqara app at first. The fix turned out to be power-related—switching to a transformer rated at at least 1 amp solved the issue immediately, and the doorbell connected without further problems. So if you run into setup trouble, check your transformer before anything else. Once installed, the G400 really shines. The video quality is crisp, and notifications are fast and reliable. One of the standout features is how seamlessly it integrates with HomeKit. When someone rings the doorbell, the video feed pops up right on my compatible thermostat display, and it also announces through whichever HomePods I choose. That level of customization makes it feel like a truly connected home experience. The Aqara app adds another layer of control, offering access to additional features and settings beyond what HomeKit alone provides. Replaced an old Logitech homekit doorbell. The image ratio is really good, video quality is good, but could use some more fine adjustment and dynamic range controls. The poe connection has been perfect! No dropouts and integrates with Blue Iris perfectly.

This video doorbell works well. Notifications are quick and Aqara's cloud based AI options are abundant. Video quality is in my opinion fit for purpose. I can clearly make out face of anyone at my door and the viewing angle is fair. The 4:3 aspect ratio definitely shows more above and below the image frame compared to say a 16:9 aspect ratio. The only things I find that could be improved are (hardware: For POE users it would be fantastic to have an option to get a guard "panel/cover" to protect the Ethernet cable is it passes under the camera and is exposed to the elements. The chime isn't capable of loading custom chimes. It would be nice to have custom chimes even if it means plugging the chime into my computer to copy audio files to it. And finally it would be nice to have an angled mount that angled more steeply or is adjustable. My camera doesn't show enough left of frame for my preference and installation situation. That said the current angled mount is more or less usable for my application as is. (Software: Not much to add except it would be nice to [in home assistant] have the ability to play voice announcements through the speaker or at least trigger a preloaded reply from the available onboard replies. And the ability to get a video stream over homekit would be welcomed too. Last but not least RTSP support is appreciated as this allows me to add the video stream to my existing NVR. Onvif isn't a supported protocol but it would be welcomed if offered in the future. *Onvif type T would be epic!* Overall I'm happy to run this camera. Rectifying some or all of my complaints would make me happier. I would recommend this video doorbell to others for there consideration.

Just hooked it up to replace 5-6 years old Google Nest door bell. Big improvement and it work with Apple home secure video very wide view you can even see bottom light by door. I did matter install directly from Apple home. Then added the aqara app and there was software update. First I was not seeing and Apple home kit recording or any notification. Then I see I had updated for the Apple home pod mini speakers. I did the update and immediately started see recording events a notification. You need an apple device like the HomePod mini speaker to act as the hub to process the video and send it to iCloud. You get free video backup with iCloud subscription. Apple does limit the video to 1080 I believe if you run the camera thru Apple home app and use the free iCloud backup.

I chose the G400 to replace a Ring doorbell. My decision was based on my experience with the U100 Smart Lock, which I liked so much that I ended up getting a second one for my garage entry door. With the G400, I was looking for a hardwired device, compatible with Apple Home, integration with my Aqara Smart Lock and the ability to record video on my NAS. First the bad. My installation experience was impeded by Aqara being down on July 3, 2026. It was down most of the day and after mounting the hardware, I was unable to pair it to the app. It wasn't until the evening when they were back online and I was able to set it up. However, once it was set up, the G400 sounded an alarm on both the doorbell unit and the chime unit. Not knowing what was wrong, I quickly unmounted and removed the power, hoping it would reset. I then reconnected and after booting, the alarm sounded again. I tried disconnecting the reconnecting the wires again and again to no avail. I actually damaged the wire in the process given number of times I did it. I finally looked it up online and saw that there was a tamper feature, which I can turn off in the app. So one more time reconnecting, and then once it booted and alarm sounded, I was able to go into the app and turn it off. This seems to be a common problem from what I've read, but one easily solved if the option and a warning was part of the set up process vs. just being default. With it finally installed, looking at the picture, the aspect was certainly different from my prior doorbell as it's not as wide but is tall. Given it's not as wide, I decided that it would work better with the wedge, so I had to remove the doorbell again to add the wedge and then re-install. A couple of additional comments on the install. The G400 is narrower than my prior doorbell, so in my case, I needed to patch some holes and touch up the paint behind the unit. As for attaching to the mount, it's simple to remove from the wall with just a paperclip. I wished they had use security screws instead, which was how my prior doorbell was mounted. Of course the G400 has the tamper alarm, but not sure I want to risk it going off all the time. I've been using it for 10 days and so far, I find it to work fairly well. I was able to add to Apple Home and it provides a RTSP stream that I use to record video on my NAS as well as live stream to a PC. So far, I've had to reboot the G400 once, when the livestream stopped working on my PC, but have had no other issues. I like that it can detect people, vehicles, animals, packages and motion, though I find the motion to be too sensitive even on the lowest setting and after reducing the field of vision. I am though, highly disappointed that some of these features are behind a paywall, especially package detection. That's really a big reason for having a doorbell camera these days, not happy that there's a charge for it. Aqara does include a 90 day free trial, but not something I would pay for. My prior doorbell also had a paywall, which was the main reason I replaced it. The video on the G400 is very clear. I'm using via wi-fi and have not noticed any lags, that it works with 5ghz wi-fi is certainly a plus. Night vision is not in color, but it's very good. If not for the install issues, I would have rated the G400 higher as it is a very good device once installed and it's a good value.

Works well. Video looks way better than the old ring cam. Night vision is excellent. Sound is good. Way cheaper than most HKSV cameras. Setup was easy. Motion zones are solid.

I had high hopes for this product. My first POE doorbell. Exciting! My excitement was quickly extinguished by the following shortcomings: 1- The backplate and the camera's entry point for the ethernet cable is far too tight. You'd think a device made to be connected via ethernet would accommodate a variety of ethernet cables. Mine is a standard unshielded cat6 and it barely fits. 2- The field of view is significantly narrower than my previous video doorbell. 3- Low light performance is unacceptably bad. I'm talking early 2000's webcam quality. Unusable at night. 4- Honestly the video quality isn't that great even during the day. My previous Eufy doorbell had a far better video quality. 5- It's a bit chunky, especially for a product that has no battery. 6- Many basic features are behind a subscription. I can't recommend this product in its current state. Hopefully a gen 2 product is better.
