Description

Apera Instruments PH60 Pocket pH Tester is designed for reliable and easy pH measurement for general water solutions, such as in hydroponics, horticulture, aquaculture, pools& spas, water treatment, cooling towers, environmental monitoring, beverage making, education, etc. The meter comes with a replaceable pH probe (PH60-E) for general water solutions pH test. The meter is also compatible with 3 other types of pH electrodes and an ORP probe (sold separately) for different applications such as solid samples and surface tests. NOTE: Add a few drops of 3M KCL liquid (included in the kit) to their test sample (usually low ion-strength liquid like distilled water or RO water), which will significantly help accelerate the stabilization without affecting the pH reading.

  • Ditch you 20$ ph pens... I did buy a buffer solution kit also+40$ish
Disclamer... for starters... I bought a buffer solution kit from Apera that came with one16 oz. Bottle of all three, 4 ,7 ,10 buffer solutions and a 4 oz. Bottle of storage solution. And a stand alone holder for the pen itself and the buffer solutions, all of which I am highly impressed with and recommend. Now for the kit in question it is the first ph tester I have purchased or used that wasn't 20$ maximum!... This ph test blew me away with the case alone. Nothing crazy but it's sturdy enough with foam inserts for all provided equipment. 1 bottle of each buffer solution 4,7,10 i would guess 1oz. But I wouldn't know better.. A 3ml vial of a soaking/cleaning solution so if you let your tester sit for too long you can soak it and then clean it after. And to top it off a small lanyard is included. The pen itself feels nice, feels quality. Comes pre-wetted.? I haven't used it much but so far it is money more than well placed, if it is something you will be using at least once a week. So long as it is well maintained I can imagine it lasting 5+ years ... show more

  • Haven't used it much yet, but it works well for my hot sauce
I bought this thing to make sure my hot sauce was a safe acidity level. I am giving it out to family and friends, so I decided to skip over the cheaper versions of this type of unit and go with a respected brand and a well reviewed unit, but also didn't want to really shell out the big bucks for the higher end units. This thing is pretty much the perfect combination of quality, usability and price imo. I'm sure I could go upmarket more and get even quicker and more precise readings, and get even more tuning solutions and such, but this is a great value because it came with everything that I needed (the solutions aren't always included btw and that can get expensive pretty fast.) If I had to knock one thing, it's that it takes a decent amount of time to settle in on a reading for just plain tap water - something that's expected, so it really isn't an issue, however if I were buying it primarily for water testing, I'd probably have been better off going to the next tier. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to test stuff like hot sauce. ... show more

  • Great Meter
I bought for the purpose of checking PH for wine making. It was one of the easier meter to calibrate and comes in a nice kit with canisters for calibration and storage fluids. Compared to another meter I have and they were both very close to each other in PH values. Again not a professional scientist but it worked well to me. ... show more

  • Holds calibration well, just have to be patient for your final reading
I've had several cheap pH meters over the years. I use them almost daily to test engine coolants (ethylene or propylene glycols). I found this meter to calibrate well, and hold its calibration well over time. When I re-check cal, which is not nearly as often as I should, it is usually within a few points still; ie 9.99 or 10.02 on a 10.01 cal solution. The only thing that sort of bugs me about it, and seems in other reviews as well, is that you have to be patient when using this meter. It is a temperature-compensating unit, and unfortunately, the temperature probe is embedded in the head, rather that protruding out into the liquid. So, you have to let it sit in a solution being tested, until the head of the meter equalizes to the ambient temperature of the solution. During my maintenance, I will typically put it in my test cup of glycol, let it sit, go about other tasks, and come back and read it again after it has timed out/turned off. That is usually amble time for it to be temperature stable. Here's my hints at the most frustration-free usage: * Using: as stated above, wait with unit in solution being tested until temperature has stabilized--this could take several minutes, depending upon starting ambient of the probe and solution. * Care: Always store with storage solution in the cap. Its a bit of a pain, as the tiny silicone o-ring on the probe does not seal well, so storage container must always be oriented so unit is stored upright. * Rinse with water and carefully shake or blow off before testing solutions * Rinse with storage solution after use, and keep clean solution in the probe storage cap. *Calibration: keep your cal solutions fresh. Before attempting calibration, keep your cal solutions and the probe in the same room/ambient temperature for a couple hours prior--it will speed up stabilization time prior to accepting cal. Photo is a random spot-check of cal with 10.01 solution after not being calibrated for about six weeks. EDIT: 20 Jan 22: I bought this meter 16 August 2019, and probe died two days ago. Ordered new probe for $28 on Amazon and received it today. Calibration went as expected, and I expect to get at or near the same service life out of this probe as well. Instruction sheet claims useful probe life at 12-24 months at the most, and should be changed more often for reliability. I never saw any reason with the first probe to question it. Kept meticulously clean, calibrated about every 60 days. Failed all at once, from old age. Also, I noticed on my new probe there was a second, small black o-ring at the end of the probe where it seals against the man body of the instrument. The original didn’t have the o-ring at all. Probe may have even lasted longer, but after it quit working, I removed it to inspect internally and found moisture, so that may have killed it. Alls well that ends well, its back in service now. Is used typically 5 days a week in samples of ethylene and propylene glycols. ... show more

  • Decent, mostly well built pH meter.
I've had this meter for about 3 months. It's a high quality pH pen that's mostly easy to use and read. The calibration process is *relatively* easy. Get in calibration mode, set in the pH 7 solution, wait for the check mark, then do the same with the 4 & 10.01. Once you have it calibrated, use is easy. I notice that the design of the tip allows air bubbles to get stuck, which can be frustrating when you're trying to get an accurate reading. I'm unsure if it affects the reading negatively at all. When I try to shake the bubbles out, I notice that sometimes the battery connection stops working for a moment, then I have to turn the meter back on. That happens somewhat regularly. I'm a bit disappointed that a $70 pen has finicky battery terminal integrity, but if you're careful with it you won't have the issue. I wish I bought the pH & TDS combo meter, but in the meantime this one works well. I would recommend it. ... show more

  • Accurate
Easy to calibrate if you follow the directions. I calibrate every 2 weeks to be safe but it reads the calibration solution spot on before i calibrate every time. DON'T let your probe dry out and expect it to accurate.
