This Ph tester does all it claim to do and does it well. And it is well worth the price. But... According to the directions, for real accuracy, you need to calibrate the unit periodically, particularly if it has been sitting idle for a long time. I will be using it during the summer and fall, when I ferment some of our summer harvest and make vinegar. I feel I would be wise to calibrate it each year, but the chemical packets you are to add to distilled water for calibration are only large enough for one batch. That, I don't like. ... show more

So I am on my third ph reader in a week. I bought the first one and it worked the first few times then quit working. I returned it and got a replacement sent. This time around I noticed a white chemical residue on it. Sure enough I was sent a used product that would Not even turn on. This meter comes with calibration powder and instructions on how to calibrate it. I followed the instructions but the meter is still all over the place. Even after calibrating it, the reading was fluctuating wildly in the calibration solution. Be aware that you will need distilled water and a way to measure 250ml to create the calibration solution. It's very possible that this is all due to user error, but I did not expect to have to calibrate the thing. Some of the other ones said they were self-calibrating, I believe. I bought this ph pen for the first time in August of 2020 and last year in November of 2023 because I dropped it and cracked the electrode. I really like this ph pen because all I do is calibrate it every 30 days and after every use I put a few drops of electrode storage solution in the cap to keep it wet and it stays calibrated. I know it’s low a cost ph pen but it gets the job done for me and I can’t remember the last time I had an issue with ph. I’m writing this review because I recommended this product to a friend who was about to spend $180. ... show more
