This is the most I've ever spent on a ph pen. I'm so glad I bought this Apera pen. I have been watching Doctor Bruce Bugbee online (the guy who also is part of Apera instrument company) , and really admire his vast knowledge of certain vegetation. I figured if anyone could make a ph he could. I was pleasantly surprised! It even adjust automatically for temperature . It came in a very sturdy case with three calibration solutions, and solution for keeping the probe submerged in. Also had a 4 vial stand to keep the perfect amount of ph solutions. I use this tool for brewing beer as well as for making and fermenting my own hot sauces, kimchi, etc. It is very easy and intuitive to calibrate and use, and extremely reliable when calibrated and used consistently. I do recommend getting the combo kit because the extras are definitely useful, but you can get away without them if you prefer. Do calibrate before each use--if only for the piece of mind--and pay attention to the manufacturer's storage recommendations, and this will serve you well for a very long time. ... show more

there is 1 improvement i think should be considered. program a little "beep" to let u know when it is done reading. trying to see the little face, isnt all that easy. but it seems to do the job, i wish it was cheaper. what can u do.

I debated on getting one of these for a while to help make sure my plants are able to get the proper feeding. It took me a while because the cost just does not seem to justify what the item does. For something so simple I can't believe how expensive it is. Does it's job well though.
