This review is for "Aowel, 2A Smart Battery Charger, 12V Trickle Charger, Battery Maintainer, Float Charger for Car,Motorcycle Lithium(LifePO4) and AGM, Deep Cycle Batteries", Aowel model AOW020 (ASIN B0C61VVQT5). The Aowel smart charger shipped quickly and arrived packaged in a padded envelope. Inside the padded envelope, the Aowel was retail packaged in a small cardboard box and the charger included a user manual. The Aowel smart charger is a "wall wart" style charger with a 58" cable and color coded battery clamps. It's dead simple use: connect the battery clamps to your battery (yes polarity is important), plug it in, and then (if needed) press the button on the wall wart to toggle the charge mode between lead acid and lithium. I tested the Aowel by topping off the charge on a 12Ah SLA battery. The charger defaulted to lead acid (or perhaps it "knew" by polling the battery voltage?) and the charge light blinked green. My Kill-A-Watt measured an AC draw that kept bouncing around in the range of around 4W to 8W. I connected a DC ammeter and I could see that the current bounced around quite a bit. I'm guessing that this is a pulse charger. I interrupted the charge long enough to connect a datalogger, then I allowed the charge to finish. The datalogger captures voltage and current measurements at a rate of 4pts/sec. After about 20 minutes the charge LED on the Aowel changed to solid green to indicate a full charge, and I examined the data from the datalogger. The data shows that the charge rate bounced around mostly between 1 and 2 Amps, and the average charge rate for the 20 minutes was 1.68A. That's very reasonable for a 20-minute top-off and I'm prepared to believe Aowel's claim of a 2A charge rate. I do own a couple of Battery Tender Junior chargers, so I'll compare them. When compared with the Battery Tender Junior, the Aowel has a "wall wart" which is nearly identical in size. The Aowel has a charge rate which is 2.7x greater then the Battery Tender Junior (2A vs 0.75A). The Aowel's charge cord: - is much shorter - is much smaller (smaller gauge, less heavy duty) - lacks a polarized SAE 2-wire connector - lacks an inline fuse I don't currently own a LifePO4 battery so I cannot comment on how well the Aowell charges a battery with this chemistry. The Aowel, 2A Smart Battery Charger, 12V Trickle Charger, Battery Maintainer, Float Charger is quite the value! I was looking for another matinance charger for my multiple motorcycle batteries and this one came up!. At 2 amps it's not a big heat producer when charging. It features a bulk charge mode that expedites the charging as noted in the pictures. Then it tapers off ( blinking green light) as it reaches full voltage. Several older chargers I own just charge at the listed specs they don't fast bulk charge. I see people saying it doesn't work? If it's not charging your battery it's due to a battery fault. Not a charger fault. Typically the start voltage of the battery is too low and the charger won't charge it by design of the safety system, or Battery management system . The way to fix that is to buy a charger with a force start function at a different price point. Sometimes you have an actual bad cell and the charger is saving you from your self. The Price point is very fair for what you get. The only downside I see to this charger is the cables are a tad short and they don't accommodate the pre-installed motorcycle adapter charging cable.     • Very compact and portable 2 amp charger
I got this to tender the battery on a car I only drive in nice weather during the summer. I store it throughout the winter months and the battery will require some kind of attention in order to keep it thoroughly charged. But it is still summer so I tried it on a car that had been sitting for a while and had zero power in its battery. Although it did not bring the battery back to life - or else it would have been awarded five stars - I did learn that it is a bit more sophisticated than you might think - at least at this price point. It not only has a button to switch modes depending on the type of battery you need to charge, it is also capable of determining if a battery is bad or not. There is a small light that is either green, and your battery is good to go, or a red light that tells you the battery is bad and you need to replace it as it won't take a charge. I checked it out with a different and higher end device I’ve owned for a time and it confirmed the reading this little trickle charger showed. This has given me confidence that I made a wise choice.     • Easy to use and works geat for smaller batteries
I got this for some smaller capacity motorcycle and trail camera batteries. This size battery requires lower charge currents to avoid damage and overheating. It is automatic. You select the battery type (lead acid or LiFePo4) and connect it up. The LED shows whether it is charging or done. Pretty basic, but comes with universal spring clamps for use on most batteries. This is called a maintainer bu the instructions say to disconnect when charging is complete. So I am not sure I would leave it connected during storage. At $19 it was reasonably priced similar to other name brands. I would recommend this for charging smaller capacity batteries. If you want a battery tender, you may want to shop around since it is not clear if this one can remain connected. ... show more
