  • Pretty, well made, great value - the best I've tried
Color: Blue
My cats will only drink from a running water source, it's maddening, so this is my 4th? 5th? More? cat fountain and the best so far! It's just as cute as it appears, not too big but not so small that I am constantly filling it. My cats won't drink out of the little pond part, only the "lotus" part on top where the little output hose is, which isn't nearly as darling but works just fine. The submersible pump comes with tiny sponge-like filters, don't bother with them. They get clogged with ??? cat slobber, I guess, within a day or two, necessitating taking the thing apart, pulling out the filter, popping open the front grill, rinsing or replacing the sponge, and setting the whole thing back up just to do it again the next day. I haven't had any trouble just going without. And even if it somehow reduces the life of the pump, it'll be worth buying another one for the time it saves me cleaning it every single day. The fountain itself should be cleaned at least once a week with soap and water, as it can develop a bit of biofilm, and the pump starts to slow down about then, too. It IS a bit difficult to clean inside, if I didn't have tiny, very flexible hands, I'd have to find some sort of tool to really get inside, you may want to consider a firm-ish, fluffy bottle brush so you can get it clean without getting your paws stuck inside. You'll need to take the pump apart (the hose off, the grill off, the little water regulator tab [I took that out totally, works best without it] ) and hand wash it with a little soap and hot water, then put it back together (a tool for the little rubber pipe would help but a qtip works just fine, too). Wash the lotus, and the bowl, inside and out, rinse well, then reassemble- pump in, cord in the notch, lotus fitted into the designated hole and then fill it most of the way with clean water. Take it to where your cats drink with some extra water in a glass or bottle or whatever and plug it in. Let the pump get primed and you'll be able to tell if it needs the water topped off. Add a little at a time, tho. It works best as full as possible, just below the spilling point. Getting the hose through the hole in the lotus, while ensuring the suction cup feet remain stuck to the bottom of the bowl is best done before filling it with water. It's a snug fit so it can take some adjusting and if you fill it too much to start, it can overflow faster than the little drainage holes in the pond can keep up, or it can be pointed in slightly the wrong direction and overflow the lotus bowl instead of draining into the pond. If it gets noisy, it likely needs more water. When mine is filled optimally I don't hear anything. While it would be great if it were a little easier to clean, or needed cleaning less often, it's really not so difficult or cumbersome. It's a gorgeous little artsy fountain on its own, well made, suited to its purpose and the best one I've tried yet in every way. Worth every penny. ... show more

  • Functional, simple & cute but....
Color: Blue
tldr @ bottom I got the blue version. I think it is super cute! I have two cats and they both enjoy it. My bigger cat will drink out of the lotus, and my smaller cat will drink out of the bowl. The design is beautiful and it is just two pieces, which makes it easy to take apart and clean. The reason I'm giving this item three stars is because of the pump and how it interacts with the lotus. The pump provides a strong stream when the bowl is full, sometimes TOO strong, and will throw bubbles over the lotus giving the impression that this item leaks, but from what I can tell, it doesn't. The pump also comes with a filter slot, and 3 provided filters, which do indeed catch hair but it's roughly a very small wad and immediately clogs the entire pump into not providing a moving water stream. I saw in another review that they suggested not using a filter at all, which definitely works. DO NOT USE PROVIDED FILTERS, if you want the pump to actually do its work as intended. This means MORE cleaning. It is also very difficult to try to reposition the pump so that the bubbling water isn't thrown over the back of the lotus, getting the floor wet. Trust me I tried because I liked the power of the pump and its ability to provide a lot of moving water. All in all, it is quiet, cute, and simple, but keep an eye out for excess water because of the strong pump and having to clean more often because you can't use a filter. ... show more

  • Cute but... not wood floor friendly
Color: Blue
I really wanted to get my fur babies a new fountain as they do prefer running water over still water. So I saw this one and liked it. When I got it out of the box, the directions on what to do were literally pictures on the side of the box. No problem, I'm no Ikea novice, I got this. And it was, really easy to put together, get water in, plug it in and voila, bob's your uncle it works. Then I discovered it was getting water all over the floor. There is a little plastic tubing that connects to the pump and fits into the bottom of the lotus part of the fountain. The tubing fills the lotus that then overflows into the bowl. The bowl part is fine, that doesn't leak. The problem arose with the tubing. The tubing has a slight curve and it caused the water to pump over the side of the lotus. This caused water to go everywhere. I tried to change the angle, no dice. I tried to cut it as I figured it was just too long. I still had water problems. When the bowl was full of water, the now shorter tubing would still send water out over the lotus and onto the floor. And now, even if the bowl is full, it doesn't pump all the water. I like the way it looks but I think there might be an issue with how long the tubing should be. The pump is designed to suction to the bottom but trying to figure out how to get everything to pump without the water going everywhere definitely requires trial and error. If you have wood floors, do not get this pump. It will ruin your floors whilst you try figuring out how to not get water all over the place. To add, my doggo prefers to drink out of the lotus and the cats prefer to drink out of the bottom. I have 4 four babies and have to fill it up every morning, sometimes in the afternoon and definitely every evening. ... show more
