  • Good scanner.
It arrives in a large, strong storage case, and everything within, including the VCI, peripherals, and a massive set of OBD adapters, is properly arranged. The most noticeable upgrade is the tablet itself. It has a big 10.1-inch screen with outstanding resolution. It doesn't have the excessively thick, clumsy rubber case of traditional robust scanners; instead, it boasts a much sleeker, modern style with polished rubberized protection around the edges. Because of this, it is surprisingly lightweight and easy to carry around the shop. I also appreciate that it offers both front and rear cameras. The back camera is a superb tool for mechanics because you can snap images of broken components or part numbers and link them quickly to the diagnostic report for the customer. The second largest upgrade is the wireless VCI. Instead than being mounted to the dash with a cumbersome cable, the VCI attaches into the truck's diagnostic port and connects to the tablet over Bluetooth. This allows you entire movement. You can stroll back to the engine bay or stand at the rear axles with the tablet in your hands while activating bi-directional active checks on key components! The package also includes a set of colored breakout jumper wires, which are vital if you ever need to bypass a dead OBD port or bench-test an ECU directly. Just with the prior model I tested, the software speed is amazing. It flies through modules, and the UI is incredibly intuitive. The vast coverage of HD trucks. The 10.1 inch Android tablet format is a major jump over smaller handheld tablets. The screen is bright, responsive, and large enough to readily read live data graphs without squinting. Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity have been reliable in my configuration, and scrolling across engine, gearbox, and body modules feels ordered rather than cluttered. The reset functions go significantly beyond basic code reading. Forced DPF regen and injector coding are particularly important for real life truck maintenance. ECU coding and module matching are accessible while replacing components, which allows flexibility for more thorough repairs. It is a large unit in both size and capabilities. If you are merely working on light duty pickups frequently, this may be more tool than you need. The menus might frequently feel confusing unless you are acquainted with heavy demanding systems. Performance-wise, it offers a wide range of advanced functions including bi-directional oversight, active tests, ECU coding, DPF regeneration, and 42+ reset operations. It communicates rapidly and reliably across HDOBD and OBD2 systems, making it a great tool for diesel truck diagnostics and maintenance. One of the most amazing characteristics is the adaptability and design of the system. The storing container is really well thought out and keeps everything tidy and safe. The connectivity choices are equally outstanding, allowing for consistent communication across numerous vehicle systems. I also really enjoy that the unit can be operated outside the truck using on-command operations, which makes diagnostics much more convenient in real-world working settings. ... show more

  • Best scanner for trucks.
The tablet itself is the most evident improvement. It has a large, gorgeously detailed 10.1-inch screen. It has a lot sleeker, more contemporary look with sophisticated rubberized protection around the edges rather than the extremely thick, clunky rubber case of classic robust scanners. It is remarkably lightweight and portable around the store as a result. The fact that it has front and rear cameras is another feature I adore. For mechanics, the ability to take pictures of damaged parts or part numbers and include them directly in the diagnostic report for the client makes the rear camera an excellent tool. The wireless VCI is the second largest update. The VCI connects to the tablet via Bluetooth and plugs into the truck's diagnostic port rather than being attached to the dash with a lengthy cable. You have complete movement as a result. With the tablet in your hands, you may initiate bi-directional active tests on particular parts while standing close to the rear axles or walking back to the engine area! A set of colored breakout/jumper wires is also included in the package; these are necessary if you ever need to bench-test an ECU directly or avoid a dead OBD port. The software speed is outstanding, much like the last model I tested. The interface is quite user-friendly, and it moves quickly between modules. It is astounding how thoroughly HD trucks and engines are covered. Additionally, it includes all required heavy-duty diagnostic adapters, so you may definitely use this tool on any commercial truck in the United States. I have used a variety of scan tools on light-duty cars, but heavy-duty diesel diagnostics are a whole other ballgame. It is evident that shop and fleet work were considered in the design of the ANCEL X7HD PRO. I have used it to conduct DPF regeneration, verify injector data, run full system scans on a Class 8 truck, and run active testing on cooling and ABS components. As anticipated, the bidirectional control makes fault isolation much easier than speculating and switching sections. There is much more to the reset functions than just reading code. Injector coding and forced DPF regeneration are very helpful for actual truck maintenance. When replacing parts, ECU coding and module matching are possible, which increases flexibility for more complex repairs. Bi-directional controls, active tests, ECU coding, DPF regeneration, and 42+ reset functions are just a few of its many sophisticated performance features. It is an effective tool for diesel truck maintenance and diagnostics since it communicates fast and consistently between HDOBD and OBD2 systems. ... show more

  • Lots of extras and multiple connection options
I have not done a deep dive into this tablet as of yet but I have used it a couple times on a couple different vehicles, although neither one was a semi. I have another android based tablet already that ran me $600 3 years ago and I can say this one is much faster in responding as well as just all around usage. This is basically just a thin tablet with a bulky rubber case on it to help protect it during use. The touch screen worked great with my bare hands, although I did not try with greasy ones or with latex gloves on. I do find the way it connects to the vehicle to be a little odd though, it basically has a separate box that you attach the needed cable to and it connects to the tablet via bluetooth. The power for the box is supplied by the connection if it's powered or with one of the extra power cords, one is a 12 volt plug and the other is a pair of clamps to connect directly to a battery. The battery clamps actually have a 12 volt outlet on the other end so you just connect the two together to make 1 cord. Good way to minimize cords in the case but in reality I do not see the cord being long enough to reach a vehicles battery on a lot of vehicles, especially big trucks. In reality that's a pretty small issue considering everything that it does and comes with. There is also a usb c cord for charging as well as a power block for the wall which is a nice surprise and another usb cord of the old printer style that looks like a house, I did not get far enough into it to see what that was for. Another useful feature is the fact you can download an app and control it from another device like a computer of cell phone/tablet. This could be handy in some cases with bigger vehicles or if you go to the other side of the shop but needed to look at it and didn't want to walk back. There's way to much to go over with this tablet but I will say the case is nice and large and well padded with lots of extras and the 2 years of free updates is an added bonus. I'll be selling my old tablet and keeping this one for sure. ... show more

  • Excellent upgrade with wireless VCI mobility, a massive 10.1" screen, and blazing speed! Excellent upgrade with wireless VCI mobility, a massive 10.1" screen, and blazing speed!
I previously used ANCEL V5 HD PRO, which was already an excellent scanner, but I am absolutely blown away by the upgrades they packed into this new X7HD PRO. It arrives in a large, hard storage case, and everything inside, including the VCI, accessories, and a massive set of OBD adapters, is meticulously organized. The most obvious upgrade is the tablet itself. It features a massive 10.1-inch screen with beautiful resolution. It doesn't have the incredibly thick, chunky rubber casing of traditional rugged scanners; instead, it has a much sleeker, modern design with refined rubberized protection around the edges. Because of this, it is surprisingly lightweight and easy to carry around the shop. I also love that it includes both front and rear cameras. The rear camera is a fantastic feature for mechanics because you can snap photos of broken components or part numbers and attach them directly to the diagnostic report for the customer. The second biggest upgrade is the wireless VCI. Instead of being tethered to the dash with a thick cable, the VCI plugs into the truck's diagnostic port and connects to the tablet via Bluetooth. This gives you total mobility. You can walk back to the engine bay or stand near the rear axles with the tablet in your hands while triggering bi-directional active tests on specific components! The kit also includes a set of colored breakout/jumper wires, which are essential if you ever need to bypass a dead OBD port or bench-test an ECU directly. Just like the previous model I tested, the software speed is exceptional. It flies through modules, and the interface is incredibly intuitive. The comprehensive coverage of HD trucks and engines (Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, etc.) is staggering. It also comes with all the necessary heavy-duty diagnostic adapters, meaning there probably isn't a commercial truck in the US that you cannot work on with this tool. With full bi-directional controls, ECU coding, over 42 reset functions (including DPF Regen and injector coding), and two years of free updates, this is an absolute powerhouse of a diagnostic tool for any fleet owner or heavy-duty diesel technician. It is a massive upgrade over the previous generation and well worth the investment! ... show more

  • Impressive Heavy Duty Scanner with Professional Level Features Impressive Heavy Duty Scanner with Professional Level Features
This heavy duty diagnostic tablet offers an impressive amount of functionality for diesel trucks and commercial vehicle service. The tool provides full system diagnostics, bidirectional controls, DPF functions, resets, coding capabilities, and live data in a package that can handle most day to day shop needs. The hardware is solid, with a large screen that is easy to read and responsive enough for extended diagnostic sessions. Bluetooth connectivity works well, and the live data graphing features make troubleshooting easier when tracking intermittent problems. I normally use JPRO for heavy duty diagnostics, so that is the benchmark I naturally compare other tools against. While JPRO still has the advantage in overall workflow and ease of navigation, this tablet was able to perform most of the functions I regularly use. The biggest difference was that certain functions and tests took a little more searching through menus to locate compared to JPRO's interface. Coverage is excellent across multiple truck and engine manufacturers, and the active tests and service functions add a lot of value for technicians who perform diagnostics and repairs regularly. Being able to handle both heavy duty trucks and standard OBD2 vehicles is another advantage. Overall this is a very capable diagnostic platform that delivers a large portion of the functionality found in much more expensive professional systems. The interface could be refined to make some functions easier to find, but the capability and value offered by this scanner are impressive. ... show more

  • ANCEL X7HD PRO 10.1'' Heavy Duty Truck Scanner ANCEL X7HD PRO 10.1'' Heavy Duty Truck Scanner
Ancel has been well established as a leader in the vehicle diagnostic field. The X7HD Pro Scanner has a good reputation of following that tradition. The scanner is well constructed and durable, providing nearly every heavy-duty truck connector necessary for my work. I used the scanner on a Ford F450 6.8L V10 and a Cummins 6.7 L ISB. The Ancel X7HD Pro delivered a solid performance, effectively identifying error codes and assisting in fault detection for efficient repairs. The response was faster than my other scanner. It functions exactly as one would expect from a high-quality scanner, a fact supported by numerous available reviews and demonstration videos. However, I found the account registration requirements to be a significant hurdle. For a mechanic focused on immediate diagnostics and solutions, being forced to set up a profile mid-task is a notable nuisance. I would highly recommend that Ancel updates the device software to allow users to bypass the profile setup initially, providing the flexibility to complete the registration later when time allows—a feature I would appreciate seeing across all diagnostic tools I use. The ANCEL X7HD PRO 10.1" Heavy Duty Truck Scanner provides two years of complimentary updates, with a subsequent annual subscription fee of $99. Multi-year discount options are also presently available. All said, for under the $1K cost this is a great scanner for the price. ... show more

  • Serious Diesel Diagnostics Without Dragging Out Multiple Tools
I have used a range of scan tools on light duty vehicles, but stepping into heavy duty diesel diagnostics is a different level. The ANCEL X7HD PRO is clearly designed with shop and fleet work in mind. I have used it for full system scans on a Class 8 truck, running DPF regeneration, checking injector data, and performing active tests on ABS and cooling components. The bidirectional control works as expected and makes isolating faults much more direct than guessing and swapping parts. The 10.1 inch Android tablet format is a big upgrade over smaller handheld units. The screen is bright, responsive, and large enough to comfortably read live data graphs without squinting. Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity have been stable in my setup, and navigating through engine, transmission, and body modules feels organized rather than cluttered. The reset functions go well beyond basic code reading. Forced DPF regen and injector coding are especially useful for real world truck maintenance. ECU coding and module matching are available when replacing components, which adds flexibility for more involved repairs. It is a substantial unit in both size and capability. If you are only working on light duty pickups occasionally, this may be more tool than you need. The menus can also feel dense until you get familiar with heavy duty systems. Overall, for technicians, independent diesel mechanics, or fleet operators who want full system coverage in one device, this scanner brings a lot of capability into a single platform. ... show more

  • Phenomenal Scanner – From Light Duty to Heavy Duty Beasts
This scanner has quickly become the most valuable tool in the garage. The sheer versatility of this unit is incredible. I’ve used it on everything from standard light-duty passenger vehicles to Hyster hilos (forklifts), Freightliners, and Internationals. It doesn't skip a beat, no matter what I plug it into. It comes packed with every adapter you could possibly need for commercial and heavy-duty setups. Honestly, there are a few specialty connectors in there I haven’t even had the chance to use yet, but it’s amazing peace of mind knowing I have them. Right out of the box, setting it up was an absolute breeze. The user interface is intuitive and gets you straight to work without a headache. The 10.1-inch screen is a game changer. Being able to graph live PIDs on a display that large makes tracking down intermittent issues and analyzing real-time data incredibly easy on the eyes. A tool this good deserves protection, and the case it comes in is excellent. It neatly organizes the tablet and all the cabling, keeping everything pristine and protected from the typical garage dust and drops. If you are working on a mix of fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and everyday trucks, this is worth every single penny. Highly recommended! ... show more
