Description

AMP Research invented the PowerStep™ XL featuring a rugged, bold design, offering a 3” lower stepping surface than the original PowerStep™. This product makes accessing your lifted truck easier. The same automatic, electric-powered running board that instantly extends when you open your door, and retracts out of sight when the doors close. The rail is constructed of 6063 Marine grade aluminum with an integrated bracket system with precision stainless steel pivot pins for rock-solid stability to support up to 600 pounds. Bought the AMP Research Power Steps for my 2 door Jeep JK to assist in getting in and out after a lift kit install. I must say that I was very pleased with the look and ease of vehicle entry after I installed them. Open the door and the powerstep drops down, close the door 2 second delay and the step raises up and tucks away nicely. Me and a friend installed these steps in about 6 hours. I read instructions prior to install and was slow and methodical about installing steps which is why it took so long to get them installed. All needed parts came with the order. The only difficulty was when doing the in cab wiring for the trigger wires (One on each side) to make the steps operate when the door is opened. Each step operates independently. of the other. When wiring the trigger wire for each door there is an option as to where you splice into the harness; you can splice so the doors can be removed (Difficult to access) or splice if you are never going to take door off (easy). I chose to splice into the harness so the doors could be removed if I ever chose to do that, which meant I had to reach up under the dash to access the Jeep wire that needed to be spliced into. Kit comes with professional grade posilock wire taps, not the cheap taps. This was a difficult task as I have large hands and was working in a very tight area. Instructions are fairly easy to follow if you are mechanically inclined, and the fruits of your labor will be rewarded. The steps while functional and do not detract from the rugged look of the Jeep; they are not designed for rugged off road use. If you are a rock crawler they will more than likely get damaged at some point. In conclusion, while expensive, these steps truly improve ease of entry, look good, and are well designed and built steps. Would I buy them again? YES! They work great. ... show more

One day and only once the driver side didn't work. For our 2017 Rubicon Unlimited, I really could use another 4-5 inches of wire along drivers side. I think the firewall mount area is to cramped with the '17s battery setup, a real struggle to find that perfect spot. But afterwards, the darn things are perfect. Wife loves her Jeep now, so I'm happy as well. Oh, the instruction don't tell you this: Steps will sit at a very odd angle (gull-wing door style) and have you think you've mounted incorrectly! But once power is applied (reconnect battery) they move into the open or closed position as intended for use depending if door is open or closed. Not intended for hard corp off-roading. Some will wonder why on a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Well, we live down a very long Alabama clay road and when it rains the roads are almost impassable. A 4x4 with locking diff front and rear greatly assist and that is not on every 4x4. Her Rubicon with these steps make entry and exit a breeze and the Rubicon ensures I don't need to pull her out of ditch. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Installed on a 2017 Jeep Wrangler - 75th Anniversary Edition. My wife and daughter are pretty short and had trouble getting in and out of the Jeep. This power step solved that problem. This product is very easy to install (I am not a mechanic so it took me a little longer than forecast). All of the parts are extremely high quality and fit the Jeep as if they were OEM accessories. I had a question about one of the motors being advanced differently than the other. This caused one step to be partially closed at installation and before power was applied. I sent an email to AMP Research and received a quick reply. Turns out the controller system is smart enough to calibrate the steps upon first use. Once I reinstalled the fuse and open the door, everything lined right up as designed and desired. ... show more

    • Work just as discribed but motors quit working after 10 months

Amp Step Boards are an excellent addition to the looks and operation of your vehicle. Make sure you lube the control arms once installed and there will be no problems with the function of the step boards. If you can afford them they are well worth the money. Update 3/09/2012: The motor on the passenger's side has quit working (step board will go down but not up). I am contacting AMP for replacement. These step boards have been great, not sure about dependability... Update 3/09/2012: Amazon is the only company to order merchandise from on the internet. The customer service is fantastic and their Return policy is amazing. Amazon gave me a full refund on my purchase and paid return shipping on the step boards. I will be a loyal customer for life... ... show more

    • both motors finally not working but has been resolved

The product is really built for heavy use. Bought it on 2014, but still the paint on the running boards and arms are like new. Not even a scratch, and I've been pressure washing the *h* out of it. BUT, there's a but. both motors finally died for some reason. I replaced the right motor last 2017 under warranty. then funny thing happened. the day I replaced the right motor, the left motor got jealous n stoped working as well. few weeks ago I emailed my concern.(I know it took me a while to report the problem, and yes the left side step board is hanging out like a stand for people to ride in while doing car maneuvers.. ). Also, the customer service since the beginning of purchase has been GREAT!!! they sent the left side motor within few days. ... show more
