Description

AMP Research invented the PowerStep™ XL featuring a rugged, bold design, offering a 3” lower stepping surface than the original PowerStep™. This product makes accessing your lifted truck easier. The same automatic, electric-powered running board that instantly extends when you open your door, and retracts out of sight when the doors close. The rail is constructed of 6063 Marine grade aluminum with an integrated bracket system with precision stainless steel pivot pins for rock-solid stability to support up to 600 pounds. Bought the AMP Research Power Steps for my 2 door Jeep JK to assist in getting in and out after a lift kit install. I must say that I was very pleased with the look and ease of vehicle entry after I installed them. Open the door and the powerstep drops down, close the door 2 second delay and the step raises up and tucks away nicely. Me and a friend installed these steps in about 6 hours. I read instructions prior to install and was slow and methodical about installing steps which is why it took so long to get them installed. All needed parts came with the order. The only difficulty was when doing the in cab wiring for the trigger wires (One on each side) to make the steps operate when the door is opened. Each step operates independently. of the other. When wiring the trigger wire for each door there is an option as to where you splice into the harness; you can splice so the doors can be removed (Difficult to access) or splice if you are never going to take door off (easy). I chose to splice into the harness so the doors could be removed if I ever chose to do that, which meant I had to reach up under the dash to access the Jeep wire that needed to be spliced into. Kit comes with professional grade posilock wire taps, not the cheap taps. This was a difficult task as I have large hands and was working in a very tight area. Instructions are fairly easy to follow if you are mechanically inclined, and the fruits of your labor will be rewarded. The steps while functional and do not detract from the rugged look of the Jeep; they are not designed for rugged off road use. If you are a rock crawler they will more than likely get damaged at some point. In conclusion, while expensive, these steps truly improve ease of entry, look good, and are well designed and built steps. Would I buy them again? YES! They work great. ... show more

My Jeep has a 3 1/2" lift kit installed. My wife was unable to get into the Jeep without a stool. This has made it possible for her to get in without help and easier for me as well. I like how they fold up out of the way to maintain the high ground clearance. Nice product, well made, and works as described. One side had 2 wires the same color and I picked the wrong one at first. ... show more

Not as easy of an install as shown in videos... this part of the instructions should have in all CAPS: THE TWO SUPPORTS MUST LINE UP PERFECTLY OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTACH THE RAIL! You would think they would line up since they are both mounted against the body pinch weld flang, but no... the rear mount is turned in oh so slightly. Needed adjusting and many attempts at shimming to line up perfectly. So the first side took almost 3 hours of trial and error, but once done, the other side took about 15 minutes. Take your time and make sure each step of install is aligned and perfect - then it's a breeze from then on! Would definitely recommend - they look and work AWESOME! UPDATE: Over a year later and still function and look like new! ... show more

Attaching the kit on my 2013 JK 4 Door (Sport S) was fairly straight forward. I had no rock rails or steps attached previously. Pros: - With 2.5" lift and 35" tires, this kit splits the difference just about evenly between the ground and the footwell. - The 2 second timeout to retract after the door closes is just about right switching between doors. - I like the aesthetics of these steps compared to some competitors, they blend in quite well with the factory trim. - It tested out the pressure safety feature on the steps, with about 40 pounds of pressure, the steps will freeze when a blockage is present. This makes me feel better with the kids using the steps on their own. Cons: - One of the LED lights is not working in the kit. It seems to be non-functional,I tried splicing it multiple times. I plan on contacting the seller for a replacement. - Instruction manual is a little sparse but it worked. I imagine it it hard to be very precise with small variances between model years. Suggestions: - I wish the kit came with a wiring harness to tap into the door wires rather than a posi-tap connector. You have to choose between pulling out the lower dash to install the splice, or attach it directly to the door wires. The latter means it is a little more interesting to remove the doors in the summer. - The controller's main cable harness does not snap on, it is more like a compression fit. This caused an the passenger side to not work until I pushed in the connector as hard as I could. I am hoping it does not wiggle loose again. - Add an on-off switch to help deactivate the switches. I can do this myself, but it would help with maintenance and debugging during install. Overall, I think this kit will hold up over time. Their 5 year warranty is definitely a plus.
