  • too smart for its own good
I took away one star because they tried to make it so simple that they made it more difficult for anyone that knows anything about them. There are no buttons. None. Nada. Zip. It only activates the charger once it detects a small charge on the battery. This is a safety feature to prevent sparking. Problem is if the battery is stone cold dead, you can't get a source of power to activate the charger. There isn't any button on the charger to force it on. So you have to go find an old charger without all of the smart features, or one with a button that will let you activate the charging manually just to get enough charge on the battery for this Amazon charger to activate and begin charging. Once its working it does good. ... show more

  • Great value, but quality is on par with the price
The LED indicator blinks rapidly when not connected, so much so that it’s hard for my old eyes to distinguish if it’s solid or blinking. When the battery is fully charged the LED just goes off. The multiple LED indicators on my competing brand version is much easier to read. Aside from that it works well and has no strange noises or excess heat coming from it, which is what you’re likely to experience with a no-name charger. If you’re going to go cheap, stay safe and stick with Amazon Basics. ... show more

  • Green light turns off when the charger is on--goofy
Note: I have only had this for a day, and it seems to work. I connected it to a full-charged battery, and no light is shining. This is correct per how the unit is designed, but how am I supposed to know if the unit is working, but the battery is fully charged or if the unit is not working at all? My previous battery maintainer was a Deltran, and it used a light on (constant or flashing) to indicate that the unit was working. One star deduction for this. ... show more

  • Excellent Low Amp Charger
Just needs a full charge or stand-by light so I don't have to check for power on condition.

  • Lack of spark proof feature. I am using it with AXTRA 8-outlet power strip for safety purpose.
The media could not be loaded. Comparison for AXTRA 3.6-amp battery charger to Amazonbasics 2-amp battery charger. AXTRA has 3.6-amp fast charge and 0.9-amp slow charge option for 6V and 12V batteries. I highly recommend AXTRA car battery charger. The clamps on Amazonbasics is not fully covered with plastic so you might get shock for touching both clamps. The clamps on AXTRA has full plastic to cover the coppers offered better safety features. I am a mechanic for twenty years, before that I have a electrical engineer degree. This review is based on my personal opinion only. The battery charger won’t maintain the battery for trucks or RV. This battery charger lack of quality control due to the design require spark proof technology. Be care when you plug it in wall outlet because the clamps would spark if it touches each other. The main reasons I am using it with a power strip surge protector because it provide overload and shortcut protection. If any electrical problem occurs, the power strip will shut itself off for not damaging the circuit panel. You will no longer have to change the battery if it runs low or if it dies, there will be no need to jump start your vehicle. This essential battery charger will also help to condition the battery leading to a longer life span and better performance on the battery. If you own a car, classic car or rally vehicle and leave it unused for long periods of time, the battery can lose charge as it is not being topped up by the alternator. Car battery maintainer plug into your main electricity socket and attach to the terminals of your vehicles’s battery. They are designed to charge a battery that has run low or to maintain one that is not being used. For example if your car is in storage during the winter, it is important to note that the negative cable always completes the circuit and the negative charging cable should never be connected to the battery without the positive also being connected. The negative terminal is usually black (-) and marked with a minus sign and the positive terminal is usually red and marked with a plus (+) sign. You must never connect or disconnect the device without knowing which terminal is which. The product is perfect backup to keep on your car and motorcycle,, if you have used up too much power on other maintainers. Friendly reminder: By the way, do not touch each clamps together when the power is on because it cause a huge sparks. The bad result might electrocute yourself. The battery charger won’t repair a 2 volt drained battery. The device doesn’t have include O-ring for motorcycle. ... show more
