The install was as easy as installing any other receptacle. Configuring it was also easy using the Alexa app by scanning a barcode. It took me about two minutes. And I really like how the two little lights in the middle of the receptacle indicate whether each receptacle is currently on or off. It makes it really obvious.     • Easy to install smart outlet
I am not an electrician, but this was very easy to install. It works great with Alexa. I purchased two of these and plan to purchase more. I have multiple Alexa plugs, but installing an outlet works so much better if you don't want the bulkiness of a smart plug on your wall. I installed one of these behind a cabinet so I can have the cabinet flush against the wall aside from the small plug for a lamp. What would really be a plus is if they add USB ports to these outlets! ... show more

I have a detached garage about 75 feet from the house. As a recent transplant to the upper peninsula of Michigan, I was “forced” to buy a compact tractor to deal with all the snow. The tractor has an engine block heater which I was hoping to be able to control from inside the house. Initially, I used a smart plug-in switch from another manufacturer. (I’m using a mesh and Wi-Fi extender to provide sufficient signal out to the garage) The results were less than stellar with the units dropping the Wi-Fi connection sometimes multiple times per day. Reconnection required unplugging and replugging the unit into its outlet. In two months, for this Amazon smart outlet, I have yet to drop its Wi-Fi connection. Not saying I’m looking forward to this next winter, but at least I’ll have a hot block! ... show more

    • Must read if you're new to electrical
This smart outlet does it's job really well! It integrated with my Alexa almost immediately and Alexa even asked to pair with this "new device" once it was installed and powered. But as someone who has done a fair bit of electrical work in their house, the connections in the back are a bit difficult to tighten down. Wires do not attach via J-hooks around a terminal screw, or "push-in" ports on the back; it looks like a "push-in" port on the back but you have to wedge the screw on the inner side of each hole and then tighten down each side. It's not terribly difficult but not as easy as other outlet installations. Other than that though, it is a great outlet and would definitely recommend, just be aware of this difficulty if you're not already familiar with these DIY projects ... show more

    • It’s being used outside for a bug zapper and works great!
Believe it or not, I didn’t have an outlet in my backyard. I knew I could have one installed by a professional electrician, but then I would have to buy a smart plug to put the bug zapper in….. It was actually my Electrician who said to me that they make “smart sockets” I went on Amazon as I always do and there it was. He installed it, weatherproofed it, and now I programmed my Alexa to turn it on and off automatically. Love it!!! my Echo Dot picked it up right away no problems! Definitely recommend!!
