As much as it pains me to admit it, my wife and I are getting older. Things that didn’t concern you at all in your youth become more important, such as being safe in the bath tub and shower. With a wife who has become a bit wobbly on her legs, it was time to put up a safety bar in the shower. The funny thing is that I find it convenient, too. I wanted to find a reasonably priced, stainless steel bar – not a chrome plated one. I also wanted to find one that was 32 inches long so that each end could be anchored into a stud in the wall (studs are usually 16 inches on center). It isn’t easy finding something like that, but Amazon was the place to go. This AmazonBasics bar comes in a couple of different diameters and several lengths, including what I wanted (1 1/2” diameter – 32 inches long). The mounting holes allow you to orient this vertically, horizontally or on an angle. I mounted mine horizontally. The screws that came with the bar were not long enough to go through the tile and wall and deep enough into the stud for my satisfaction, so I had to purchase longer stainless steel screws. I have an old house, though, with plaster walls, so the screws may be long enough for your application. After locating the studs I drilled the mounting holes through the tile with a carbide bit. The holes in the mounting plate are close to the sides of the bar so when I went to put the screws in I used a suitable extension in my drill/driver to for proper clearance for the drill/driver head. If that makes no sense, you’ll figure it out yourself when you go to mount it. A regular screwdriver would have worked, too, but who does that anymore? After mounting the bar, and before snapping the end covers in place, I smeared a bit of silicone caulk along the top edge of the flange and over the top of the screws, just to help keep any water from creeping into the wall. I don’t know if this was necessary, but it eases my mind. This thing is solid! Mounted directly to the studs, it does not move. I am so much more comfortable with my wife using the shower now, and I find it handy myself. Drop the soap? It’s nice to have something to grab onto when you bend over to pick it up. And it’s not a bad place to hang your wash rag when you are done with your shower. I’m very happy with it. For the price I think it is hard to beat.

I bought three of these for my home walk-in shower project. They are excellent quality with perfect welds at the mounting flanges and good stainless steel mounting hardware. I have been in the commercial and hospital construction industry for over 23 years. These grab bars are equal or better in quality to the higher priced products that are typically specified on my projects. They are also fully ADA compliant. I highly recommend.

This Product Is Identical to the Home Depot Grab Bars Just Different Brand Names and Packing Materials But Made In The Same Plant With Same Brackets! I Bought The Delta Brand 36" And Figured It Would Be As Good Or Better But I Was Wrong! The Covers That Fit Over The Hardware are crap With The Delta and the Mounting Welded Flanges Only have 3 Holes. The Amazon Basics and Home Depot (SAME PRODUCT) Are More an Industrial Grab Bar with No Fancy Stylish Junk. The 36" Home Depot is $90 and the Amazon Basics is $31.40 and are The Same Exact Identical Product Made in The Same Manufacturing Plant, The Delta Brand Is Different But Not Better! It's Ok But For The Money You Just Can't Beat The Amazon Basics! Solid as a Rock and Quality! First Picture Is Amazon Basics 18" and Second Is Delta 36" And I Have Many More Amazon Grab Bars In My Showers Etc. Same With Gasket Sealers! One Company Fills The Tubes and It All Comes Out Of The same 55 Gallon Drums! RED, BLACK, BLUE, ETC It's All The Same Product In Different Tubes That Claims High Heat on One Tube and Dura-Bond Racing Gasket Sealer At 3 Times More Money :O) They Are All The Same Gasket Sealers No Matter The Outer Tubes and All The Colors Are The Same Other Than The Color Except Clear Gasket Sealer Is Not For Gas or Oils But If The Tube Says Its For Oil Seal and the Other Tube Says Good For Gasoline and The Other Says Its for Extreme High Performance Nascar Racing It All Pumps From the Same 55 gallon Drums and a Product Change is a Pallet Of Tubes and If The Tubes Are Smaller Then a Piston Stroke Adjustment to the Filler. Working well. Due to the chosen installation angle I needed to drill another hole in the flange to be able to mount with 2 screws per flange into the studs. Note that the flange is hard metal to drill through.

This is the 3rd one that I have purchased I’ve the past few years for my wife. Super strong and easy to install. They come with 6 mounting screws as they are not suction mounted. They last and if you need an extra rail to grab onto for safety, these are the ticket.
