This is a great extra charger to keep with you in case of emergency. I wouldn't recommend using it for daily charging unless you have a lot of time, but to keep in your car/truck so that you always have the ability to charge, it works well. Its sturdy, has a really long cord, and is easy to use.

When we first brought home my wife’s electric vehicle, I found myself diving headfirst into the world of car chargers, navigating the differences between Level 1 and Level 2 chargers and figuring out how to best power the car while keeping everything convenient. As it turns out, there’s a lot to consider when choosing an EV charger, especially for someone who is just getting started with electric cars like us. After some research and trial and error, I decided to give the Alxum EV Charger Level 1/Level 2 a try. Now that we’ve had the chance to use it for a while, I’m ready to share my thoughts. The Alxum charger came into play after we had already experienced a few different options. We began with the basic Level 1 charger that came with our EV, which works fine for overnight charging but isn’t the fastest. Wanting a faster charging option, I tested a second Level 2 charger, but it quickly became clear that I needed something more portable and user-friendly for travel, visiting friends, or using at different locations. That’s when I found the Alxum charger, which promised to bridge the gap between ease of use and reliability, and it certainly lived up to that expectation. First off, let me mention how simple the setup is. Unlike some chargers that come with displays or require settings adjustments, the Alxum is designed to be straightforward. You have two plug options—NEMA 6-20 for 240V power and NEMA 5-15 for 110V—which gives you flexibility depending on the available outlets at your destination. At 16 amps, it offers a solid balance between fast charging (when using the 240V option) and portability. We’ve mainly used the 240V plug, as it provides much better charging speed compared to the 110V option, though at a lower power rate than a hardwired 50 amp charger (which we have plans to install for faster at-home charging). However, even at 240V, the Alxum doesn’t quite reach the maximum output of some higher-end Level 2 chargers. Instead, you’ll see about 5 kWh of charging power in a typical 8-hour period. This is fine for overnight charging, but if you’re looking for rapid top-offs or a quicker solution, you might want to explore more advanced chargers. What really won me over with the Alxum charger, though, is its reliability and ease of use. While the other Level 2 charger I tried had a few hiccups—like refusing to start charging or having trouble disconnecting—the Alxum worked perfectly right out of the box. There is no fancy display, no app integration, and no settings to adjust, which could be seen as a downside for tech enthusiasts, but for me, it was a relief. The simplicity meant I didn’t have to deal with troubleshooting or interpreting error codes. Instead, I could just plug it in, let it charge, and forget about it. That being said, it’s not a perfect charger. As mentioned earlier, there’s no screen or smart functionality to show the charging status or provide notifications. You’ll have to rely on the flashing lights on the charger to interpret any potential issues, so it’s worth keeping the instruction manual handy, especially when you're using it in unfamiliar places. The good news is that, during our use, we never had an issue that required interpreting flashing lights. The charger always worked as expected, and that consistency is one of the main reasons I’m satisfied with my purchase. Since we primarily use this charger when traveling or visiting family, storage has been a consideration. The Alxum charger comes with a 25-foot cable, which is a good length for most situations, but also means that you need to find a place to store it when it’s not in use. For us, it fits neatly under the trunk platform in our Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is quite handy. It’s not bulky, so you can easily store it in the car without it taking up too much space. If you have a smaller car, you might need to get a bit creative with your storage, but for the most part, the charger’s compact design works well. In terms of durability, I can’t yet speak to the long-term performance of the Alxum charger, as we’ve only had it for a few months. However, I’ve learned what makes for a good and durable charger, and this unit has many of those elements, which gives me confidence that it will hold up. For now, it's definitely meeting my needs for portable charging, and I have no reason to believe that it won’t continue to perform reliably. One thing worth noting is that, while the Alxum charger is affordable compared to some other Level 2 chargers, you do get what you pay for. It’s not the fanciest charger on the market, and it lacks some of the high-tech features found in premium models, such as Wi-Fi connectivity or app control. However, for the price, it’s hard to beat. It works, it’s portable, and it’s reliable—exactly what I need for on-the-go charging. The bottom line is that the Alxum EV Charger Level 1/Level 2 is a great choice for anyone who needs a reliable and affordable portable charger for their electric vehicle. While it’s not the fastest or most feature-packed charger out there, it does exactly what it promises: providing efficient and simple charging. I’m confident that it will continue to serve us well, especially when we’re traveling or visiting others who may not have a dedicated Level 2 charging station. If you’re looking for a straightforward, no-frills charger that gets the job done, the Alxum EV Charger is a solid option. It's affordable, easy to use, and works reliably, making it an excellent choice for EV owners who want a portable solution for charging on the go.

This portable charger isn't anything particularly innovative but it does 'check all of the boxes' for a quality product. It charges relatively fast for what it is using a NEMA 6-20 or 5-15 plug. It has all of the protection functionality you expect from a quality EV charger along with the safety certifications (FCC ETL). It's IP65 waterproof and comes with a case. It has a 25 foot cable and that's something you don't always find even in high end products. Decent product at a value price. Recommended.

My wife likes this charger compared to the factory charger that came with our EV. It's lighter and more portable in the included case. Although it doesn't fit in the designated space in the Volt's limited trunk area when in the case, The display isn't overcrowded with tons of info, it has just enough LEDs to tell you that it's working properly.
