I posted a review when I first received the C40. But this is an update after a week long trip. Here is an update on the Alpicool C40 compressor Fridge. I just got back from a week long Boondocking camping trip up in the high Sierra mountains of California. I ran the C40 the whole week long. But I'm not sure it was a proper test. The conditions were not ideal. We were at the 6,600 foot level and the temperature during the day was in the high 80's. Nights did not get below about 40 degrees (F). We knew it was going to be warmer than usual so I parked my camper under some trees. That was a mistake. I have only one battery, and one 100 Watt solar panel. The panel only had a 25 foot line going to the camper. I was having to move the panel to find sunlight several times per day. For much of the day I did not have any power being generated at all. Maybe just 3 or 4 watts. The brochure says that the C40 uses 40 Watts when running. My son was with me and he had all day sunlight on his panel. His meter showed that he was generating as much as 60 Watts almost all day. We have the same Solar system. By the time I figured out the sun problem I was already set up and did not want to move. If I would have had another 25 feet of line, I could have also had sunlight all day. I will be ordering one tomorrow! It was warm enough up there that I did not need to run my heater at all. I only used power for the LED lights and the water pump. Even with all of those terrible conditions, the C40 ran for the whole week and maintained temperature just like it was supposed to. As a precaution I would turn the temperature up to about 44 during the night and back down to about 37 (F) in the morning. It was inside of my camper only 4 feet from me and was quiet enough that I did not hear it turn on and off during the night. But then again, I could sleep through a Thunder storm. My battery never got below about 11.5 during the night. I had set the C40 safety shut-off at 9.5 volts. So it never turned off at night. Late every afternoon, I was able to find a spot at the rear of my camper where I had full sunlight on the panel until dark. In that location I was generating 67 watts of power just long enough to bring the battery back up to nearly a full charge for the night and next day. Despite the fact that I had to fight for sunlight the whole week, I was very pleased with the C40. I did find that the internal temperature sensor was not very accurate. So I got a proper Fridge thermometer. I found that when the C40's panel was showing internal temperature was 44 degrees, the actual temperature inside was was about 37 degrees (F). But it was very consistent. That would explain why there was some ice forming on the walls inside when the display was showing 37 degrees. It was actually going down below 32 degrees. I just learned to compensate for the difference. As long as you don't have a lot of power requirements, one 12 volt battery and one 100 Watt Solar panel is all you need to keep the C40 running all day and all night. You just have to make sure you can generate more than 40 Watts of power for some of the day to keep the battery charged. I am definitely going to order another 25 foot extension for my Solar panel. Got this in june 2019. We have been using it off and on last year on our RV.. couple week here and there.. Now the end of may 2020 we went fulltime in our RV and this has been in use full time. We use it as extra refrigerator space and for a place to put tall stuff. the unit on 12v. pulls some 3.5 amps. The temp setting is at 38 and it will go up to 40 before it come on and can go down to 36 when it turn off.. Be sure to check the reviews for the hidden setting info. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3BF0LCRFSOJ0K?ASIN=B073WYS3TR the unit has been sitting on the floor of our RV on the roads of NY, PA, OH, NH (lost 2 hub cap of truck and 2 off RV) so it has been beat around for the past 2.5 months and still keeps on running. It runs as either a cooler or freezer depending on your temp set point but not both. I have it plugged into my 12v port that is appx 12 ft from the batteries(12 ga wire) and the cord on the unit is appx 9 ft long and looks to be 12 ga so the voltage drop is appx 2.5 volts when running so if you set the battery protect setting at 12.5 it will shut off.. I put mine at the lowest which is 9.6v.. and have no issues with battery voltage down to 12.1 volts at battery. Overall for the most part it a good product that seem to be a tough cookie.. :) <<<<LAST but not least.. after you get the product do NOT plug it in for at least 12 hrs.. WHY.. ??? it could have been put in a truck upside down ( I found mine on the front porch upside down despite the UP arrow) so take it out of the box open the lid to let it air out and let it sit for the day.. that allows the oil to go the right place when you start it up.. >>> UPDATE: so here we are in Dec of 2020 and some now 8K miles of RV travel with this sitting on teh floor bouncing around, sometime crazy stuff, and still going strong. I put some non slip stuff on the bottom to help keep it some sliding around when we travel.. the space inside has been a real treat when we go to like costco and have 3 containers of OJ and 2 Qts of milk to store when you have a 8CF refrigerator to begin with. you will get some moisture in the bottom over time so we pull everything out and give it a good clean every couple months and especially before a big trip to costco for sure. If i were to replace it I would go the larger 2 section unit the Alpicool T60 to more freezer space which reduces the refrigerator size by some. so far so good.. :) UPDATE: Sept 2022.. so here we are again with an update.. this unit has been one of the best item gotten in a long time. it works every day all day and the extra storage area is such a help when you full time rv and have a Sams and costco accounts.. :) you can stuff a lot of stuff in it to help .. runs off the batteries which are now 230 Ah lithium.. we look forward to many more years of usage.. i do blow out the fins about once a year or so when we clean it out and take outside to do. it get unplugged and I take the covers over and blow the dust etc out of the fan.. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE it.. :) ... show more
