We purchased this cover when we got the cooler. It provides a little extra insulation with some pockets for the power cords and some other small items like napkins. I thought the Velcro would make opening it a nuisance but it wasn't at all. The other benefit that appealed to me was that it provides a little impact protection. The cooler is over $300 and I wanted to protect it when traveling. Also, the control panel can be easily seen and used through the clear cover. The only down side is that the USB port cannot be used. It would have been nice if there were a slit in the cover so the port could be accessed. It is black so if your cooler is in the sun, I think the insulating benefit will be negated. It's easy to remove so if your cooler will be out in the sun with no power source, just take it off. This review is based on a single trip. It was used in our FJ Cruiser with the AC cord plugged into the socket in the rear of the car. We were in and out of the cooler for almost 2000 miles of travel with two overnights in a hotel. If you get the cover, I highly recommend the cooler. You'll like 'em both ;) ... show more

This is well built, not heavy at all and it beats a conventional cooler by far! We decided to stop by our favorite meat shop to buy what amounted to 10 lbs. of steak, chicken another assorted cuts of meat. We turned our BougeRV 30 Quart on when we went inside the store and, although it was 90 degrees outside, it had already cooled down to 44 degrees 15 minutes later. We put the meat inside, went in another store for about a half hour and when we came out, it was already down to our set temp of 36 degrees. I received the fridge and followed the manual's suggestion to let it sit upright for 24 hours. I placed 12 canned drinks, in two 6-packs, along with a wireless thermometer to monitor the temperature. The drinks were at room temperature, and I set the fridge temperature to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. It took about 24 hours to cool everything to the 35-degree mark, with the compressor turning on and off about 5-6 times per hour. Once it reached 35 degrees, it was able to maintain that temperature by turning on the compressor only about 3-4 times per hour. This was indoors at a room temperature of about 69 degrees, and I had the case/cover on the fridge. It ran fine for 12 hours before suddenly turning off overnight (as seen in the picture, the temperature spiked when it shut off). After plugging it back in, I let it run for the rest of the week, and it continued to maintain a good temperature range based on the 35-degree setting. However, after about 2 days, the compressor started making a knocking sound when it turned on. It would knock for about 60-90 seconds before getting quieter. I sent a message to customer service, and they said it was normal, but I'm not sure I agree. While it's not a big deal when using it indoors, if I had it in a small camper or vehicle while trying to sleep, it would definitely be distracting every time it turned on. Overall, I think it's a fair value assuming it holds up. There is a 2-year warranty, and they offer an additional year if you register on their website. I was torn between this model and the Iceco 20qt model, but this one has a slightly larger internal volume, allowing you to stack 2 12oz cans vertically, which the Iceco does not. Overall, I think this fridge will meet my needs, and while I can't speak to its reliability after only having it for 2 weeks, the loud compressor knocking would have me considering an Iceco or a different brand with a higher-end compressor. ... show more

Fresh fish go bad in 2-3 days. What's the best way to keep fish on an extended fishing trip? Freeze them! On 80-85 degree days, this freezer ran -3 to +2 consistently. I ran it off a 100Ah lithium battery and the battery would last more than 24 hours. Get the cover for it. It adds insulation and protects it. ... show more

    • The one I got was weak

I used the the machine as a refrigerator for a couple of camping trips and it worked well. But when I tried to use it as a freezer it failed. I loaded it with frozen food for a 5 day road trip and it could barely keep that food from thawing out and could never get down to the set temperature. That means the the compressor never was able to shut off for a rest cycle so it ran very hot and sucked a lot of power. It worked when we were driving but at night, it would drain the battery in a few hours. The service folks had me run it through a 1 hour no-load test. The specs say that it should cool from 77 to -04 in 50 minutes. I ran the test 4 time and the best it could do was once it got to 17 but never got to the point is should. They said to keep using it to see if it would change. I guess I can use it as a cooler but I'm afraid if I use it as a freezer it will burn up the compressor.
