Size: 12 inch Nonstick Fry Pan with Lid
The All-Clad HA1 Expert Nonstick 12-Inch Chef's Frying Pan is a substantial pan that delivers excellent performance at a reasonable price. The HA1 is a hefty pan at about 3.5 pounds, about 4.5 inches deep and approximately 12 inches wide. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty and an easy QR code link to the use and care information. The pan also comes with a non-vented glass lid. The handle is solidly connected to the glass lid, sealed well as no steam was seen escaping during use. It also has a large opening. This is needed since the handle does get hot during use and you will need to use a mitt or similar when removing it. The pan’s handle is about 8.5 inches long and has a smooth indentation that made it easy to hold and lift. The handle is solidly attached to the pan by two close fitting rivets. They were not observed to trap food or brush fibers when being cleaned. A supplemental, smaller lifting handle on the opposite side of the pan is also solidly attached. The secondary handle really helps when lifting a full pan. The pan’s nonstick coating is evenly applied to the internal and external surface. The base is ground flat and fits well on a glass-surface cooktop. The name and size of the pan are also on the base, along with a small serial number or model number laser etched on the edge. Cleaning is simple, let it cool then soap, water and a gentle pad. Residue came off easily. The recommendation is to hand wash the pan, even though listed as dishwasher safe. You could put it in a dishwasher, but that would probably shorten the life of the nonstick surface. To protect the nonstick surface, you should avoid metal utensils that can scratch it. I only use wooden or silicone with these pans. The heavy base takes a while to heat and heats evenly, no hotspots were noted. Meat browned nicely with only a mist of grapeseed oil and there was no sticking observed. The handle stayed cool during use. The pan is listed as oven safe up to 500°F, but has not been oven tested yet. The glass lid is not oven-proof. I also found that an 8 inch steamer basket can be opened wide and fit into the pan. This came in handy to steam small batches of longer items, such as asparagus, or batches of mixed vegetables. One basket had a center bar that was short enough for the lid to fit tightly and retain all the steam. Another had a bit taller center section that resulted in a small 5mm gap. While using them I found that a little bit of oil on the inner lid reduced the fogging and let me observe the cooking. This is a solid and well-made pan that should, with care, give many years of service in multiple uses.

What a nice pan! This All-Clad pan is a great size (10”) — not too big, but big enough to do most anything you can think of — and the first thing I noticed — because I have cast iron and steel pans — is that while it’s a substantial pan — high quality — it feels so light to me! How nice to be able to lift a decent sized pan with only one hand! And it doesn’t break my wrist!! The pan is well made, it seems to me. The handle is nicely riveted to the base of the pan, and so far, when I use the pan, I haven’t found that the handle gets hot (like with my cast iron pans). The body of the pan is thick, not like your typical non-stick pans, and every bit of it is non-stick. Also, while the pan is light (compared to my other pans), the base of the pan is heavy (magnetic?) and works well with my induction cooktop. When I cook with the pan, it heats evenly — no hot spots — and the food releases from the surface of the pan without a hitch. Cleanup is a breeze as well — any leftover food nearly cleans itself out of the pan without just running water or the sprayer. The pan information says that it’s dishwasher safe, which is a nice feature, but this pan seems so nice to me that I would prefer to carefully wash it by hand — and since cleanup is so easy, that’s not a chore. It also says that it’s oven-safe. I haven’t put it in the oven yet, but it looks to me like it will withstand the oven just fine because of the material that it’s made out of, and because the handle is all metal and solidly riveted to the base. Also, the handle of the pan doesn’t stand up too high to fit, for example, in my upper over, which is smaller than my lower oven. The pan has a nice profile, I guess I would say. So…5 stars and 2 thumbs up on this one! Not only is it easy and fun to cook with, but my arthritic wrists are delighted to be able to wrangle this pan without 2 hands and without pain!
