Description

The open-back banjo produces a more mellow, softer sound, and is favored by clawhammer players (an old-time style), which has been thought to be easier to learn than bluegrass style banjo, once you learn the basic clawhammer stroke, everything else easily falls into place. Banjo is often associated with folk and country music, and is also used in some rock songs. The high-quality maple body and Remo drum head of the banjo make it produce a warm and soft sound. While keeping the structure stable, it also increases the stability and transmission of sound. Features 24 brackets ensure a better tension distribution on the head for more accurate and precise tuning. Not only does the ADM banjo sound great, it looks great too! The openback produces a more mellow, softer sound, and since the sound chamber rests against the player, some of the sounds are absorbed into his clothing and the player’s body, which lowers the banjo’s volume. Accented with closed zinc alloy tuning pegs, geared 5th tuner, 18:1 ratios, combined the traditional look with precise, smooth, accurate tuning experience. Brings you all the classic tones of a traditional 5 string banjo. Perfect for country, folk, bluegrass, and even some modern rock. The chrome-plated precision-engineered geared mechanism has a comfortable white jade look knob, which is smooth in operation. A feature usually found only on more expensive banjos, this geared 5th tuner is an important upgrade over the common friction tuner. The ADM open back banjo comes with a pickup - versatile to plug into an amplifier to control the volume to your liking while maintaining its acoustic tone for practice. The pickup can be installed on almost any banjo and used with an amplifier. For the Musician in Everyone, this is not just a motto. It is the pursuit of the practice in All Days Music Inc. (ADM). • Great complete starter Banjo set!
Color: Natural-Open Back Size: 38 Inch
Got this for my husband who loves making music and often has musician friends over for jam sessions. In his home studio he has the instruments you would expect, like drums bass, guitar, keyboards, but he never had a banjo. I thought this beginner banjo set would be a great addition to his instruments. He loves it. It sounds good and looks good. It was easy to assemble, the instructions were clear, and it did not take that long for him to have it tuned. The quality does not feel cheap and feels comfortable to play. Comes with a tuner which is very useful. It also came with a pickup accessory, which allows you to plug it into an amp or mixer. Some other nice goodies that came with it are a nice carrying bag, a wall-mount stand and free lessons. I think this is great value for your money. ... show more

  • 18 Brackets, not 24
Color: Natural-Open Back Size: 38 Inch
Appears to be well made, though 18 brackets vs. 24 advertised. Even the photos on the site show 18. I bought the banjo as I am making one, and way cheaper to strip the parts off vs. buying them separately.

  • Great starter banjo
Color: Natural-Open Back Size: 38 Inch
I've been playing banjo for about 10 years now. Not well, not in public, but I play clawhammer, just like Kermit. I also have a son who's expressed interest in following me down this old road, so I thought this might be right for him. I think I was right. Out of the box, this instrument looks really nice. No bells, no whistles, nothing fancy, but it's a really clean maple build throughout. I don't see any flaws in the woodwork at all. The tuners all feel solid and hold well. In the video I posted, I hadn't touched the tuners in 5 days. Tuning seemed pretty solid after 2 days, but then I had to loosen all the strings and redo everything (I'll come back to that), but after I tuned it that time, I haven't adjusted it since. It came strung but loose, with the bridge packed separately, and a nice cardboard template to mark the bridge location. I know better than to trust that, though, so I used it to measure to the 12th fret, then to the bridge, and marked the head. Then, just to check, I put the template against the nut and ... It's spot on! It's got a nice straight bridge, ready to go, and it sounds fine. But that's when I heard THE BUZZ. Every time the high D string rang, there was a vicious buzz which I realized was coming from the tailpiece. Upon inspection, I found a little ding in the tailpiece, which was correspondingly bent in on that corner. So, after fiddling with it for a while, I finally freed the bridge and strings, and removed the tailpiece. It was easy to bend it back flat, but that had nothing to do with the buzz! On the back of the tailpiece there's a little piece of threaded rod, on which floated a totally loose nut, that was singing its little metal heart out to the high D. I tightened it down, put everything back together, tuned it back up, and all I hear now is pure 5 string goodness. It all sounds pretty nice, with a great, clean tone. The action is just right, and the strings fret beautifully. The rest of the hardware is solid, and has a beautiful chrome shine. For the accessories, everything is fairly basic, but good quality. Even though I play clawhammer, I was impressed with the set of 3 fingerpicks (stacked inside one another). I have several sets that I paid good money for, but these 3 are the most comfortable I've tried. Everything fits in a little cotton bag, and then you have the very well padded nylon case. I haven't taken advantage of the free lessons yet, but I could use all the help I can get, so I appreciate the offer. If it weren't for the dinged tailpiece with the loose nut, this would be a solid 5 star instrument, an amazing value for a starter or a second. If my son doesn't end up taking to it, I'll be keeping it tuned to C so I can just switch banjos. ... show more
