  • Great buy but could be more refined...
Let me start with this first, I like this laptop and I think it's a very good buy. The best thing about this laptop is the big 17.3" IPS screen, it's sharp with good viewing angles and decent brightness. The 11'th gen Intel CPU performs very well, everything loads very fast and it handles multiple tasks with ease. Wireless connectivity is also great, connection is fast and stable. The speakers are decent for a laptop, OK, nothing more. The keyboard is good and spacious but I wish that the keys were bigger, there's a lot of space in this laptop to fit larger keys like CTRL, ALT etc. and especially the small up/down arrow keys are requires more attention because I find myself hitting the shift key when trying to press the UP arrow key or the UP key while wanting to press the DOWN key. I am also missing a light indicator for the Caps&Num lock keys. The touch pad is large and comfortable to use, responds very well. Battery life seems decent, I haven't tested it too much but it seems you can squeeze out at least 4-5 hours of work maybe more if you use lower brightness. Regrading ports, you get 2xUSB3, 1xUSB-C (5gbps), 1xHDMI (2.0), 1xRJ45 LAN, 1xUSB2, 1x3.5mm audio - good but I wish Acer had included Thunderbolt 4 since the 11'th gen Intel processors support it. One point I would like to raise is the lack of (any) technical information regarding this laptop, no detailed specs regarding RAM, NVMe SSD drive besides the size, no technical info, upgrade parts, IPS panel color gamut specs etc. I wanted to upgrade the RAM and I could not find any info which RAM this laptop has and what speed it's running. So for other potential buyers I want to share what I have found: This laptop comes equipped with 8GB DDR4-2666MHZ dual channel memory (4GB soldered on board + 1X4GB expansion module). This seems a bit odd to me because according to Intel specs the 11'th gen I5 and I7 supports DDR4-3200MHZ, so I can't figure out why Acer used lower speed memory ? Who knows, not a deal breaker but little bit disappointing and I wish that this info was written somewhere for potential buyers. The 1 memory module you can upgrade is a Kingston 4GB DDR4-2666MHZ model: ACR26D4S9S1KA-4 . I wanted to upgrade the RAM to 20GB by replacing it with a 16GB module and I also wanted to preserve some of the dual channel functionality by utilizing Intel's dual channel "flex mode" because the memory modules do not mach in size. So I have bought the most similar spec'd 16GB DDR4-2666 module I could find locally made by Kingston model: KVR26S19S8/16. Installed the module and the laptop booted with no problem, identified the new RAM properly and also enabled dual channel - great but again I wish someone had written what compatible memory you need to buy in order to upgrade. The 512GB NVMe SSD installed is made by Kingston, you can also install an additional SSD for more storage. Acer included a bracket mounted inside the laptop with a cable already connected and you also get a bag with 4 screws to mount the additional SSD drive. So overall a very good laptop for daily work, web browsing and watching movies, fast CPU, I really like the large sharp screen and the big keyboard layout, price is great for what you get but I would prefer a faster RAM configuration and 2 RAM slots without on board RAM. Acer could have perfected this laptop by doing some minor changes to the keyboard, putting a larger capacity battery and offering 16GB version for a bit more but I guess there are compromises you have to take when aiming for a competitive price point. Hope this helps... ... show more

  • A lot of bang for your buck.
I love this laptop. I purchased the 17.3 inch, 8GB of RAM, and 512SSD variant. I've only had it for a day, but it's a solid performer so far. While it shipped and I waited for it, I psyched myself out reading the reviews on it done on random web sites. Everyone complained about the display and the build, but I'll say this: The display is pretty good. Sure, you're not getting iPad Pro, Mac, Surface quality screens here, but the full HD screen is bright, decently accurate color wise, and crisp. Viewing angles are good and the 17.3 inch screen is large enough for multi-tasking. I wish it were a touchscreen, but not a deal breaker. The build is predominantly plastic, but it's well built. Again, it's not the iPad Pro, Mac, or Surface level quality builds here, but it's a solid computer. The aluminum top gives it a fairly premium feel. The keyboard types well, a little mushy but mostly good. The track pad is good and the fingerprint scanner works great. There are ports for days, although I wish Acer would switch to USB-C charging (a minor gripe). At this point, if you're on the fence about getting this mid-range laptop, I would say do it. Most will be pleasantly surprised. I know I was. I do recommend getting an 8 or 16GB chip to upgrade the RAM to 12 or 20GB. Why Acer soldered 4gb of RAM I'll never understand, but after putting 16GB in, this thing flies, especially in combination with the 11th gen core i5. ... show more

  • Decent little PC so far
I've had this for a few months now. I generally use a laptop just for writing, e-mail, banking, on-line orders, backing up photos, etc. I'm not a gamer. My old PC monitor screen was being held together by big binder clips, so almost anything would've been an improvement! I like the light-up keyboard; it has a comfortable touch. The thing I like least about it are the screen colors. They aren't true to life. There is an almost indefinable brown cast to the colors; they look washed out. I've searched everywhere without finding any way to correct the problem. Otherwise, I like the computer. I hope it lasts. ... show more

  • Acer Aspire 5 A517-52-59SV (4GB native+ 4GB DDR4 RAM) - Upgraded to 36GB RAM; battery replacement
Just a note to add to some of the excellent reviews already here. I could not find any information on maximum RAM for this model, so gambled and bought a 32 GB RAM stick (Patriot Signature Line Series DDR4 32GB (1 x 3G2B) 2666MHz SODIMM Single; ASIN ‎B0868BP6TP). It installed easily and this computer booted immediately and recognized the new card. So I now have 36GB RAM for all my photo and video processing needs. Another note on battery replacement: very easy to do if you aren't intimidated by taking the bottom off of the computer. But be sure to check for the appropriate battery for replacement. We have two of these computers - both say they were manufactured on 1-18-21, BUT they have different batteries! One is AP18C8K (11.25 V; 4471 mAh) and the other has AP19B5L (15.4 V, 3550 mAh). I cannot find anything different about these two identical computers except for the different voltage batteries. Not willing to risk either computer, I replaced the 15.4 V with an identical battery from the auction site (difficult to find this battery!). Hopefully, yours will be the 11.25 V battery which is much more available. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Best 17.3 inch not gamer laptop
Excellent 17.3 inch laptop, the screen quality is perfect. Good battery life, fingerprint reader work perfectly, SSD so fast, windows 10 boot in five seconds, backlit keyboard. I have tested it in emulation like cemu and yuzu and it works perfect. The only bad thing is why Acer use a memory of 2666 when the minimum parameter of the 1135g7 is 3200. ... show more

  • Display was disappointing.
Returned. I was looking for a 17" computer for streaming but the color saturation of the display was underwhelming. Great laptop, great Prime Days price, just not what I wanted.

  • Not compatible with google play
Was a bit bigger than I expected. Most would find that a good thing. I find it cumbersome. Works great, looks great. Biggest issue is I can’t use google play with this.
