I have an around 5000 gallons pool, and this 16000BTU pool heat pump works great. Just be patient that the initial warm up target temp took about a day, but it cost you nothing. After that it held the temperature very steadily with only minor fluctuations, so I didn’t have to keep adjusting it. The unit is extremely quiet — I can sit by the pool without being bothered — and the control panel is intuitive with useful scheduling and temperature settings. Since installing it, swimming has become much more comfortable and enjoyable, especially for evening swims and on cooler days. Overall, a powerful, low‑noise solution if you’re looking for consistent pool warmth rather than instant heat. Great customer services as well.

I bought this heater after discussing with the company via text and phone calls the proper one to get for my 28,000-gallon pool. I thought I maybe would have purchased a different one, but they helped me decide the appropriate unit. It arrived on a pallet in a timely fashion. All I really have to say is that after numerous communications, because I am not a professional, they were very helpful in helping me set up the unit. I am very happy with the purchase and the customer support, which I utilized based on my lack of knowledge. it is successfully hooked up, and I did the PVC work. I hired an electrician to wire it up, and the phone app is working successfully enough. So far, after about two and a half months of using it, I am happy with the purchase. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much it's costing me electricity-wise, but so far it has not had a dramatically negative impact on my monthly bill. I am also very glad that it is going to extend my pool usage because I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, facing the bay, and it is not ideal pool weather. Now with the heater, I will probably have at least 50% more access time to the pool based on its 83° average temperature.

I installed a VarmintPool heater at my house and it’s been great so far. It heats the pool fast, keeps the temperature steady, and runs pretty quiet. Super easy to use and very reliable. Definitely a solid upgrade.

Update: with a great customer support we managed to install the heat pump eventually. Once all things are connected it immediately worked perfectly and heats the pool quickly! Especially since the support wad so helpful, I will give it 5 stars since this is the best thing to happen (if the product works). I’ll keep you posted about the system! I have to agree with the customer complaining about the missing compatibility to standard pool equipment of smaller pools. And after 1.5 days of researching and trying to get the right adaptors I am not even at the point to check whether the water flow from the filter pump is compatible to the one the heat pump needs. And customer service just opened a ticket and went silent for the rest of the day

They call it compatible. It is not they should offer a variety of fittings to accommodate common above ground pool systems. They would greatly increase the sale ability,I’ve read. It’s good a good heater but it can only accommodate certain size pool pumps I have a 2500 gallon per hour pump, but it didn’t say anything in the description regarding pump size it wasn’t until I received the pump, discovered the connectivity is incompatible or rated for the size pump that I have

We bought this large model for here in the nc mountains as we live in the woods so our pool doesn’t get a lot of sun it’s there but not much so we constantly battled cold water unless it was super hot outside and I have to say we only have a 16ft round 48” deep pool from pool factory you can look it up it’s the saltwater version so slim metal wall resin caps blah blah but we did put the insulation behind the wall because we thought it would help hold the heat we did get boy was a wrong until…. We got this heater this thing is amazing now getting it set up to your phone can be a pain the unit has to be in a good WiFi signal area we actually had to buy a booster to our internet and put it in a window of the house aimed at the pool but it works so problem solved we tryed out the water and I have to say we struggled keeping our pool above 70-72. We set this machine to 86! I know to hot for me personally but my wife loves it as she can swim all night and even in a rain storm it’s perfect this pool had not cooled down since installing this machine keeps this pool at 86 with ease in June and July and August so far 3 months but be aware of the power bill ours did go up roughly 60-70$ a month so I would assume bigger pools be aware but this machine doesn’t run much for us unless we get a cold front in the mountain but I recommend this product will do a update later at how long we can keep this pool open this year until the machine cannot keep it warm in the cooler months Be aware shipping might damage this product we had to send the first one back because the coils was smashed but the company made it right mailed me one and Amazon came and picked this one back up because it is roughly 110lbs the second one came and had a dent but where we put the machine a could live with a dent to keep from the headache of ordering again Update January 13th 2026 The pool heater did us good up until Thanksgiving! Kept pool 86 all fall when we got back from Thanksgiving vacation our pool was empty down to the skimmer I filled it back up to find the leak and it is the heater I reached out to varminpool and they want me to submit a video of it leaking which I could not see where it was coming from when I disconnected it all already because I didn’t feel like fighting the pool with cold temperatures outside facing freezeing so we had already disconnected before I reached out to them they insured me I was covered for 2 years so we are going to wait until roughly March or whenever temperatures stay above freezeing to connect it back together to find the leak and video they want and I will update with how the swap out goes and what actually failed on the heater hopefully varmin makes this right not being a year old but they was super nice they actually missed my call on a saterday and they called me back Monday when they opened I didn’t even leave a message to check on why I called so sounds to be a great company to work with.
