These are good for the money. You’re getting what you pay for. That said, I’m happy for the $100 I spent. The connecting brackets are fairly cheap and I can see where over time, especially if you over tighten the bolts, they won’t hold up. The part that holds the skis is well made. The locks are useless, like other people said, but why do you need to lock it? I mean you aren’t storing your stuff there. This may end up one of those times I wished I had just bought the Thule brand that goes with my cross bars. Time will tell. My husband wants the credit for putting them on. So here. I bought these and had high hopes from all the good reviews, but the best part of my purchase was the return policy that the seller has, for these racks had to go back. Let me count off the issues I encountered. One: The Installation. The racks were supplied with standard stainless nuts, which are next to useless in this situation, any person with half a brain will tell you that you'll want to have nylon threaded locking nuts because that regular ones will vibrate loose in a heartbeat. So I bought some at a hardware store ($4 later for 12). OK, with that out of the way now it was time to install. The most irritating part of this was the screws for the bottom of the mounting bracket are too long, it took forever to tighten them to the cross bars and there are eight of them :-/ Finally I had it mounted. Oh wait, they look cock-eyed. Well not much you can do there since there is no provision to adjust the fore and aft lean angle. Oh well, they were cheap. Two: The Noise. Horrible, like someone rolled down one window at hwy speeds or the car next to you is bumpin' some serious DnB dubs. I thought it was my wife's imagination until I took it for a test drive. Yep, those will be coming off honey first thing when we get back. Remember those torturous nuts and bolts? Yep, all 8 of them... Three: The Locks. Yes, you've read it before, they are locks in name only, any key or flat screwdriver can open them. They do provide security while in motion, so there is that. Final Thoughts: On a positive note, I can say that they did hold skis for a test run to see if having skis mounted changed the wind dynamics (not a bit) and I was confident that they are perfectly fine in this regard. Mind you that you must fully latch them down so that the locks will turn, no pansy weak armed closure - it takes a bit of pressure to get them to properly close and fully latch. So back they went and the seller gladly accepted their return even after I had had them past the Amazon grace period and I am eternally grateful for their good business nature. ... show more

When I got the rack I did not like the plastic mounting pieces (seemed cheap). But after only 5 mins of putting them atop a Subaru Outback they seemed secure. Put three snowboards in the rack and drove from 8 hours to Snowshoe WV. Driving conditions reached to 75-80 mph. Winds in the mountains reached 40 mph. It poured rain. And also drove through a winter storm for about 40 miles before we reached our destination. Even though the racks were frozen when we arrive they popped right open. After the week we drove back 8 hrs with no problems. Solid racks for way cheaper the cost of the big name racks out there. ... show more

Got this snowboard carrier for our family's regular winter visits to Big Bear mountain. Easy installation on my current Thule rail bars to begin with. At our recent visit on the way back, it was snowing at night. Some part of the road was windy (at least to me). But thank God everything from the roof was intact in the end. Didn't expect to test its limit that way but it seems to do the job pretty well! Good stuff! ... show more

UPDATE!!!....we just got back from our snow board trip ans this rack was amazing! I was afraid with some of the reviews it got but it worked perfect. The locking mechanism also worked just fine. We had 3 boards in there and it worked like a charm. It is a little hard to close all the way down but put a little muscle into it and it closes fine. Happy with the purchase! Also not alot of wind noise like I thought it would be. So I gave 4 stars only because we haven't traveled with it yet. I received this earlier this week and I installed in on my mazda cx9 today. Installation was super easy and our 2 boards fit fine. The locking mechanism works fine and you have to have the key in the hole to open and close it. We will be traveling with it in February so I will update then but for now I am very happy with the purchase for the price!! ... show more

So overall the product works well and was excited to try it on my trip to the mountains. However, The locking mechanism was very stiff and wouldn't lock. I managed to loosen it up and make it work on one of the bars but not on the second one. I tried playing around with the other one (trying to not break it since its plastic) but it is completely stuck and will not lock. For paying this much for a rack I expected it to at least work as described because that is what I paid for. Otherwise so far the rack works well for the one trip I did with it but I can only lock one bar. ... show more

Purchased last season for my Pathfinder. It was easy to install, they look nice and I was able to use them a couple times this past ski season in Colorado winter conditions. They did the job, held onto my adult skis and my sons child skis at highway speeds and I did not notice any increase in noise. The lock mechanism works fine so far. I could see this piece failing after extended use, definitely not a heavy duty lock... but again, it’s worked fine so far. Great price. Would recommend! ... show more
