Update: 4/6/26 - Lost a star. I've had this coop for a month now. It absolutely is not big enough for anything more than maybe 2 full sized chickens. The coop itself is fine. My 3 still have plenty of space at night. I was able to remove the divider in the nesting box so they all sleep together on one side. However the "run" is no where near enough room. If the run were the the width of the box, this would be amazing. However 3 chickens running in here is insane. My smallest gets spooked easily and the poor thing ran, and was trying no to run into the other chickens and ran right under the ramp and smacked her head. I've also included an updated photo - as a month in, the coop is starting to fall apart. The slide for the vent door broke, both doors (side of run/back of coop) are racked and hang. I've adjusted the back of coop door twice now, and the screw continues to come undone. The flat "asphalt roof" on top of the run is bowing. The roof screws are indented and pool water. This coop would be good for a "time out" coop, a pullet pen, or quarantine coop, but for every day use with 3 full sized chickens -it's not enough. Original Review: The wood is fairly thin. Putting it together wasn't that hard. It took me 2 hours, with minimal help (just supporting the structure while I placed screws) with a hand screw driver. I will most likely paint the wire black. And probably replace the 2 latches on the back and the door. I truly wish those latches were the same as the ones on the brood boxes l. I'll update after my girls are in there for a while. So far it seems like decent quality for a starter cage, but we shall see.

This is my second coop from Runshed… I purchased one just slightly smaller a few months ago. I am planning on raising Coturnix quail for eggs and that smaller coop seemed perfect. When I saw this larger coop available, I was exceptionally happy as I could keep my adults in it and raise my juveniles in the other. The kit comes with all the panels, hardware and tools to assemble, but I am making changes to mine for durability and predator protection… The wood to these coops does not appear to be pressure treated… it is not very dense. Since the stain does not match my house, I am going to use primer to paint every wooden surface prior to assembly. I may even get a second coat of outdoor paint just to be sure everything is sealed. I’m in the southeastern US and we have lots of termites around, so even with termite traps where I am placing this, I would not want the wood to touch the ground without protection. The coop kit does include panels with chicken wire, but there is no bottom to the run and a single panel of wire is not secure enough for me as I have fox, raccoon and rat snakes on the property. I plan on adding hardware cloth to double up on the wire protection and to add a floor. For the size and design, this is a pretty good coop for the money. However, if you wanted it to truly last and be predator protected, I would paint it for outdoor use and add extra wire.

it’s okay i definitely wouldn’t put 4-6 adult chickens in this just because it’s small. Material is pretty good would recommend adding better door locks if you live somewhere with predators like raccoons etc. cause they would be able to open it.

This coop is such a cute design. It’s very functional with the easy to reach egg collection. The assembly wasn’t overly difficult. It seems quite sturdy and has enough room for several chickens. The wood is good quality and the look is fantastic. It’s a good deal for the overall quality.
