  • Four stars for low price
Cheap, flimsy, the pcb (printed circuit board) was held in the plastic clam shell by a piece of scrap foam packaging. No glue, no screws. With mine the board slid down and shorted itself. I had to modify it to secure the board. The switch is as cheap as they get. For under $20 its worth it but ONLY because fishtank equipment isnt cheap and this worked to clear my tank of alge and has other uses such as killing germs in shoes. Ps. DONT LOOK AT THE BLUE LIGHT IT CAN PERMINATLY BLIND YOU!!! even though its not bright it is uv radiation so be carful! ... show more

  • Want to get rid of algea.....here is how, complete instructions, inexpensive and easy.
Want crystal clear water in your aquarium? I can help! Ok….I am a bit of a newbie to fish and aquariums but I do a lot of consulting with Dr. Google and now, after five months with my lovely little female betta, Kiro, I am fast becoming a fish person. I was gifted Kiro by a neighbor when my husband died and she has given me a hobby that is relaxing and fun. Never thought of a fish, but now I love them. Kiro arrived in a one gallon tank which was quickly switched out to a Fluval Spec V with all the trimmings. I am too lazy still to work on live plants so Kiro has a major assortment of silk plants that are rotated weekly. Coconut huts, castles, porcelain logs, floating logs….if Amazon sells it, she has it. Now about 20 days ago I started getting an algae bloom. Soon my poor Kiro was swimming in pea soup. I made a quick consultation with Dr. Google and came up with the following plan. All the products are available on Amazon and all of them are inexpensive. And understand, 3 days after installing this system, I have crystal clear water. Here is what I ordered: 1. 5W UV-C Algae Bloom Clean Light for Aquarium Water Clean Green Clear Waterproof Clean Lamp , 2. Polishing Filter Pad - Superior Polishing Pad for Aquarium 3. inTank PREMIUM THICKNESS Aquarium and Pond Filter Floss 4. Ultralife Blue Green Slime Stain Remover 5. Blue Ribbon Pet Products ABLPLY7 Polyester Floss Bag Filter Media for Aquarium 6. Fluval SPEC Biomax 7. UP Aqua Rain Bar Unit Fish Tank Outflow Pipe Place your UV light in the pump section of the tank, this way it is behind the plastic and cannot hurt the betta (or fish)…..I turn on the UV light in the morning and turn it off when I go to bed. Ignore the reviews that say it kills the fish….it kills algae if installed correctly. I added about ½ scoop of the Ultralife stain removed dissolved in some tank water, scoop comes in the package and the tube of Ultralife is good for an entire human lifetime. I took out the foam insert filter and placed the biomax in the bottom opening. In the top opening I removed the carbon filter (and don’t think I will use that again) and I placed a handful of rinsed regular floss, stuffed it in there. On top of the filter I placed a cut out piece (a bit smaller than an Iphone SE) of the polishing pad with the rough side down. Then I placed the handle to hold it and put the inTank Pond Filter floss on top. Here is the link where I learned how to do this: Poly / Polishing Pad Filter Media Mod for Spec Aquariums - Spec-Tanks I attached the Rain Bar to the outlet of the filter motor and adjusted it so that it pointed downwards sending the freshly filtered water to the bottom of the tank but leaving the top without any current as bettas do not like a lot of moving water. Two days later, happy betta, crystal clear water. And just for fun I ordered an air bubbler, it might be that I enjoy the bubbles more than Kiro but we will see…. Here is the link for my bubbler also on Amazon and super inexpensive. bedee Aquarium Air Pump, Quiet Fish Tank Air Pump, Small Oxygen Pump for Fish Tank 1-15 Gallon with Air Stone Silicone Tube Also I got the one with the clip and returned it for the one with the suction cup….works better on my Fluval Spec V tank as the water is at the top of the tank almost. ... show more

  • Game changer
This product did exactly what I needed it to do! I had green algae all over my tank and I couldn’t even see my fish. I was desperate and bought this after doing some research. After about day 6, my tank never looked so clear! This product is amazing.

  • UV light works very well and does not feel or look cheaply made.
First I have to say, I am OCD when it comes to my tanks. If they dont look or run perfect constantly, it drives me insane. One thing I hate is when you do a water change, or a vaccuming and cleaning of a tank, and it makes the beneficial bacteria explode into a bloom causing algea blooms or other water problems, making your water look cloudy or foggy. Sometimes it takes days or even a week or more to clear up, and by that time your doing water changes again, causing the problem to start all over again. So after talking to a few other aquarium hobbyists they suggested a UV light. I ordered this one because it was the first one that popped up on the search. I ordered the 7watt light just to try it out. I am glad I did. The package arrived and the product box was inside and it was a rather sturdy box. Inside was a foam sleeve that was protecting the UV light from damage during shippong and storage. The light itself isnt brittle feeling or cheap feeling. The glass looks thick and the light itself is rather well made in my opinion. I have ordered stuff before and it looks like it was made in someones garage and put on here. This was not the case with this light. The light comes with 2 snuggly fitting suction cups that attatch to the light. The power cord is not thin and is attached so that it shouldnt break from normal use, it also has a decent cord length. There is a rocker button, switch box, closer to the plug end so you do not have to keep unplugging and plugging the light in. Now for the actual use of the light. With these UV lights you MUST KEEP IT FROM DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE FISH it is harmful tonthe fish if they do and may end up killing them. You must put it in a filter, sump or somewhere the fish cannot get to it. There are even ways of putting them in the direct water line, just do a search and you'll see videos and other ways of hiding it. You should only use this 2 to 3 hours at a time, and only every 2 to 3 days or twice a week max. DO NOT RUN IT CONSTANTLY, if you do you may kill your beneficial bacteria in the tank and thats not good thing, because your tank may crash, causing everything to die. This is not a main tank light. I decided to put this UV light in my sump that filters 3x 20 gallon tanks. So roughly 80 gallons of water including the sump. The pictures show the results. The first one shows where I put the light and how cloudy the water was. The second one shows the results of using it twice. I was very pleased how fast it worked, and how crystal clear the water was. I will be using it on my 55 gallon next, just rotating it in and out of my 11 tanks as it is needed. This was one of the better purchases for my tanks that I will be using consistently, as the tanks need it. The overall quality and operation of this UV light was way better then what I expected. Definitely by this one if your lookig for a UV light or a way to make your aquarium water look even clearer. ... show more

  • Using for hydroponics
This does a great job of keeping my deep water culture set up free of algae. I don't run it 24/7--just as needed. I bought it after I first started my hydroponics because all the roots on my plants turned black after a few days. After researching I bought this, and my plants have stayed very healthy. Good product. ... show more

  • Nice UV light.
I wish I would have found this years ago. I have a 50 gallon tank and hate the algae that forms on the glass. This light makes the water crystal clear. I still need to work on getting the green off the back glass but after that I am sure the light will keep it clean. It’s really a great idea to make keeping your tank clear much wasier. ... show more
