Description
The banjo is a stringed instrument with a thin membrane stretched over a frame or cavity to form a resonator. Early forms of the instrument were fashioned by African-Americans in the United States, adapted from African instruments of similar design. Bought the 39 inch. New to banjos and didn’t want to invest heavily in case I was terrible at it. To a novice, this seems to be a quality piece. Easily tuned, a little more frequent need for tuning in the beginning, but holds the tune pretty well. I am practicing rolls for half an hour twice a day and have had to retune twice so that’s pretty good as far as I’m concerned. No problems with reverb as of yet, most likely because I’m a timid player at this point. Not trying to play it loud, just working on getting rolls and finger placement correct. Much better quality than expected, considering the price. Highly recommend if you’re wanting to learn banjo but don’t want to invest like a professional. Comes with basic tuner, second set of strings, basic finger picks, basic case and basic strap. Will definitely upgrade the instrument in the future because learning to play is easier than I expected and I love it, but this is the perfect little banjo for beginners.

To be clear, I am writing about the 23 inch concert size banjolele, not the full sized banjo version of this that I have no experience with. I love it. I sincerely love this piece of musical history. Throw out every piece of junk that comes with it and just pull the instrument out and feel it. It’s heavy. It’s built like a piece of musical machinery that was meant to last. It’s sturdy and full. It won’t feel like any ukulele you’ve ever held. It’s half banjo, after all. It’s not meant to feel like a ukulele. I’m not sure the censors will allow this through, but I really was hesitant to buy a “no-name” brand from Amazon, even at its low price. I actually bought this and another variation of it from a more reputable brand on the same day, ready to return whichever I was more disappointed with. This one did not disappoint. Neither did the other. What I was most surprised by was that nothing about this instrument feels cheap. It’s a solid build. It’s not plastic and flyaway. It feels more “real” than my much more expensive solid top instruments, and sounds exactly like you should imagine a “BanjoLele” should sound. It’s loud, unapologetic, and proud. It tunes like a standard Ukulele, so any Uke video you find online will apply to this, but you’ll find its sound likes a certain… vibrancy. Chords and melody merge with this thing. You’ll be itching to hear the sound of both. No beginner will ever be satisfied with the first instrument they buy. You’re going to want something else, because that’s the way it is starting out. But keep this thing around. You’ll find your ears want to hear it. You’ll come back to it, over and over again.

Some 50+ years ago, I played an old ukulele and have great memories of the fun. I recently had an urge to play one again, but with a twist. I have always appreciated the sound qualities of banjos. When I realized that a banjo ukulele was available and within financial reach for a casual, fun instrument, I elected to get one. After researching the market, I settled on the AKLOT, which is the higher grade instrument in the Kmise line. Both trade names were favorably reviewed, but the AKLOT was generally preferred for it's louder projections and excellent fidelity for an affordable uke. I have been very please with the AKLOT product! It arrived in two days in a double-packed shipping box. I think it was packaged to survive importation as well as UPS! Well done, AKLOT! I unwrapped it, inspected the contents, and everything in the kit was pristine. The banjo uke was strung, but not tightly. I checked the location of the bridge using the supplied gauge, which proved to be a great method of checking the setup. The bridge was right on! The electronic tuner made it easy to bring it up to the "my dog has fleas" tuning. Over these past weeks, retuning has been needed less frequently as the strings and neck settled in to their longer-term stable positions. I still check it often, as it's quite a lot of fun to use the tuning tool!! It has a great sound! No, not as abrupt as steel strings on a full-sized banjo, but also much sharper than a ukulele, with that great banjo twang! It has a fine, uniform and blemish-free finish, and great workmanship all around. No burrs on the metal parts, especially the frets, and no hint of roughness or splinters anywhere. The banjo head has a consistent tension over all sections, and I haven't had to touch the neck or head tensioning. After a couple of weeks, the electronic tuner became intermittent, so I called Amazon and emailed with the supplier. A couple of days later, a new tuner showed up in the mail. No muss, no fuss, no disagreements. They just took care of me with great customer service! The strap is very comfortable and has a silky consistency. Much better than I expected. I planned to buy a new strap, expecting a pretty cheap crap strap, but I had a great surprise with the strap included in the package. The bottom line is this: It's been a great purchase and I'm having fun with my new banjo uke! It sounds great, easy to tune, and I have a great supplier behind me if I should need additional assistance. It doesn't get much better than this in today's rather mixed up market. Thanks, AKLOT!

Overall I'm very pleased with my banjolele. It arrived in 2 days with Prime shipping and was very well protected in its packaging. The instrument is solidly built and feels really good to me. I have a tenor and 2 soprano ukuleles that I enjoy already. This was my chance to try the concert size while also getting into a very new and characteristically different type of sound. I'm glad I did. The size is the most comfortable of all 4 of my instruments and the sound is fantastic for a lot of the music I like, particularly folk tunes and country songs. The strings broke in quickly and hold their tune well. Unlike most, I got my banjolele with the bridge already installed at just the right place. What really surprised me is that the intonation of this instrument is spot on, and even slightly better than my comparatively more-expensive tenor. The action might be just a little on the high side, but not so much that I notice in the normal course of events. I've certainly played much worse since picking up the uke a year ago. So, what's not to like? A few things, as it turns out. The strap that this thing comes with is HUGE and seems more appropriate for an electric guitar than for any instrument with a name ending in "lele". Not only is it long, but it's also very wide. I gave it to my son for his cigar box builds, and he loves it. The tension on the head is not consistent all the way around. It only took a minutes or two to fix this (the correct tool is included which is nice), but I found it annoying. I love the shape of the head, but those 2 indentations could have used some attention from some sandpaper in my opinion. You'd never notice from 5 feet away, though. Lastly, and really the only thing that really bothers me, is that the fret ends are rather sharp, and don't seem dressed at all from the factory. At this point that hasn't slowed me down at all, but I can already tell that as my skills increase I will not be sliding my hand up and down the neck unless I get this addressed. It's just bad enough that I scratched myself pretty badly on one particular chord change the other day. It's just rough enough that the reach for something like a Bbmaj becomes a bit uncomfortable. I may have to invest in some files and address the fret dressing myself at some point. It's a project I don't have time for now, though and I'm not looking forward to the scratches I'll inevitably put in that nice edge binding as I learn a new skill that someone else should have done for me. Overall - expect to spend a little time on setup, be careful about the sharp fret ends, and have a good time. Definitely worth the price and possibly even then some.

I’ve had this banjo ukulele sitting in my cart for a few months hesitant to order because for the cheap price I thought it couldn’t be very good. I finally decided to buy it. I loved it from the moment that I unboxed it. It looks good and feels good in my hands. The sound is very decent. Obviously not as twangy as an actual banjo, but still a unique sound, which is what I was looking for. I personally don’t need all of the accessories that came with it, I just wanted the instrument and the case. Still, for $100, I’m happy.

This little thing is so much fun! I’ve played the ukulele for years and have wanted on the these banjos for a long time. This one plays great, looks great, sounds great! Set up took about 5 minutes. It’s stayed in tune just fine. The tuner is comes with is really nice too…an unexpected surprise. We play Martin and Gibson Guitars…so we’re used to high quality instruments. The Aklot doesn’t look or feel cheep. All the little wood joints have a good fit and finish. For under 100 bucks you can’t beat it. The open back design is good too…it allows flexibility for volume and tone. When I’m playing indoors or want a quiet practice I put a small towel in the back behind the truss rod. When you want to crank out the sound take the towel out and be prepared for your neighbors to hear you!

This ukulele caught my eye as it is made out of maple, both the pot and the neck. Geared tuners, truss rod, and the fiberskyn head are also a big plus. I have installed the fibersyn head on banjos and like the sound it gives the instrument. Ordered up. Shipped without the bridge installed (but included), which is a wise decision. Easy-peasey to install the bridge. It took three days of tuning before the strings held tune (VERY commonplace). This uke is WELL made and has GREAT sound. The only thing I had to do is dress the frets a bit as the ends were a bit sharp. NO. BIG. DEAL. Sounds great and a huge value for the money!

First things first. Before you purchase, get a set or two of decent strings and finger picks. It’s great that it comes with two sets of strings, but they are trash. Same with the finger picks. You will also need to tune it. Not just the strings but the head too. Either take it to someone or learn how to do this. Stringing it will be a little challenging. Where the loops hook in isn’t as easy as you might have seen in a video. It’s a good instrument for what you get. Not here to only complain, just pointing out some things I learned, once I had it in hand. For a new instrument in this price range you probably won’t find anything better. If you’re not sure if you will stuck with (or get in to) playing the banjo, it’s a good option. Just don’t expect much. All the research I did said to spend at least $400 on something decent and now I understand why. The sound is good and the action is lite. You can even adjust the action. Like I said a good product for what you are paying for. Hope this helps
